    Fried Calamari
    Rebecca M.

Izumi Sushi is a beautiful restaurant with a modern but almost clinical feel. The dishes were presented absolutely beautifully, and the prices seemed fair for what they were. We started with the calamari and it was good but nothing memorable. Some of the sushi rolls were on the smaller side. One roll contained crab that seemed almost puréed, giving it a mushy unappetizing texture. The second roll (their namesake the Izumi Roll) had tempura shrimp, which had not been deveined, which is completely unacceptable at any restaurant, but especially at a sushi restaurant. The moment I noticed it (mid bite) I was done eating. Nobody wants to find shrimp poo track in their food. (See photo) With the poor texture of one roll to the complete lack of basic preparation of the other, I can't recommend this restaurant. We will unfortunately, not be returning.

Super great sushi place in Denver Metro. Really high quality. The nigiri, the sashimi, the service, the ambiance. Highly recommend!!

The recently opened Izumi in Castle Rock was packed with patrons on Friday evening. Heard many good words about this place, so have to tried it out. They require 3 days advance reservation for omasake greater than $100 and a week advance reservation for omakase greater than $200 to make sure the sushi chefs have enough time to order the right fishes. Heard they ordered their fishes 3 times per week to make sure having the freshest catch. The texture and taste of the sushi here reminded me of the ones at the more traditional sushi shops in Japan, not overly saucy, but good balance of buttery, savory, and clean ocean flavors. Also the ambience was welcoming and service was attentive. Certainly a new spot worth recommending.

Stopped in to check out this new sushi spot in downtown Castle Rock, and we really enjoyed it! The sushi was fresh and tasted great, and the restaurant has a cute atmosphere that's perfect for a casual date night. Nothing over the top or flashy, just solid sushi, friendly service, and a nice place to grab dinner. We'll definitely be back!

We were greeted with smiles and the traditional irasshaimase when we entered the brightly lit restaurant. When I ordered, I ordered a large Sapporo and Ryker did look at me a bit odd, making me wonder if I had been ordering wrong these past thirty years. But it was brought to me in a mug, so I guess Sapporo seems to be on tap only, which is perfectly fine. We ordered Shishito Peppers and Miso Soup as an appetizer. Unagi, Tako, and Hamachi nigiri. We decided on the New Style Yellowtail Roll, Double Tuna Roll, and their Izumi Roll. The nigiri was brought out before the appetizers - new restaurant I guess, trying to get their timing right? Their Izumi Roll was spot on - the right mix of ingredients and warm tempura shrimp. The Double Tuna Roll was just that - tuna two ways with avocado and rice (I think it could have used maybe some shiso to blend with the tuna.) I was very interested in the New Style Yellowtail Roll, instead of jalapeños, they used Serrano peppers. Unfortunately, the peppers were very few but blended well with the yellowtail, maybe better than the jalapeño. The fried scallions though were a great addition. Service was great. Ryker checked on us occasionally, but did not hover like some, allowing us to enjoy our lunch.

Take, yellow tail and unagi nigiri. Fresh and excellent.

Tried this new place for lunch today. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our server Ryker was excellent. From the Shishito peppers to the miso soup, the nigiri and the specialty rolls the food was amazing. The restaurant is fresh, clean, and new and a nice quiet escape for lunch today.

I was really impressed with the quality of the sushi here. The rolls were super fresh, well-made, and delicious. Their specialty rolls were so unique, I absolutely loved the micro cilantro in the new style yellowtail roll and the seared tuna on top of the double tuna roll. I think their Philadelphia roll was maybe the best I've had. We also got the seaweed salad, which I loved (I only wish there was a bit more of it!) It had a really nice citrusy dressing that was different than other seaweed salads I've had. The place seemed very clean and the service was fantastic. The owner or manager came by to check on us towards the end of our meal as well.

Food was great! Still getting all the kinks out I'm assuming, so no draft list and no cocktail menu, but beer was ice cold! Honestly the best sushi we've had in Colorado, and all their crab dishes use real snow crab. No imitation crab meat here and you can tell the difference. AC must've been working overtime in there which was refreshing from the heat, but bring a jacket if you get cold easily. Service could use some more attentiveness, but overall we will definitely go back. Vibes were upscale and perfect for a date night.

Great quality and taste. Rolls tend to be on the sweeter side and very large portions. Escolar was good, as the best it can be but Id highly recommend going off the daily special sheet that's offered with the sushi order form. It was a great foray into less common and delicious alternatives. I wish my server was a bit more informed on the tastes and types, but we managed just fine. Tai, Chinese, and other: Full standard menu of common dishes. Great for anyone who doesn't want sushi, and it stands on its own Chinese and Tai menu, if you are in the mood for those dishes. Luckily I didn't see tai green curry on the menu, or I would have had to order take out as well. Red curry is offered, and Pad Thai is next on the list. It packs up, so either call ahead or be willing to wait a bit during rush hours. They observed my reservation with us arriving a little early, they still sat us on time, but ahead of those waiting in the seating area. Standard noise during busy hours, which is the norm these days, but we could still hold a conversation even at peak. Family seems to be the name of the game with little ones trying new things. A few dates but not over formal.

I love getting a la carte of the hibachi soup - hits the spot when you're sick or recovering. The chicken and steak are our go-to orders. My favorite part might actually be the veggies!! Cooked so well. The hibachi meals come with salad, soup, a bit of noodles - basically everything you'd get if you ordered while dining in. Seriously the portions are amazing for the price! My husband loves to get the fried rice as a side, but with my surgery I've been trying the white rice and it's still good and great portion sizes, once again. Love the salad and dressing - I appreciate them packing the dressing on the side. (Honestly they pack their to-go orders very well!) they pack up the sauces for dipping the meat in, which are delicious! I wish the chicken had a tiny bit more flavor, but it's really great (and that sauce could make a shoe taste good!) As far as a la carte sides, I prefer the spring rolls over the crab Rangoon (though the Rangoon is not bad!) Overall, I can't wait to try it in person when I'm healed. Until then, I'll keep ordering delicious takeout. Highly recommend.

It was easy to order and the prices were fairly reasonable. Ocha the general manager was doing prep work. She was very nice. Maranda fixed our food and gave her input on some of the sauces. She did a great job with the bowls. They looked good so no knock on presentation or anything. My husband said that the food was good but he didn't like the shrimps taste of shrimp. The green dragon sauce was off the chain for him. Everything else was god to him. As for me... :-( I really wanted to like them. Everything smelled great inside the restaurant and looked good in others bowls. When I opened mines it was NOT what I expected. I could smell the shrimp and I knew I wasn't gonna like it. It was not grilled enough for me that it still tasted like not done. I didn't like the onion being crispy. I was under the assumption everything would be grilled. It did not taste like that. Once I poured the sauce on it I hoped it would change my thoughts. It did not. I must say though the mango lemonade was my highlight along with the great customer service. The restaurant was not all that packed and the ambience was laid back. It was nicely decorated. The restroom was clean too. I ducked in to wash my hands.. Maybe I'll try the grilled chicken next with ramen. We will see.

After I stood there for a little, the guy from the food place next door came over. So I guess they are the same? I should have already been concerned when I saw that but I am obviously an idiot. I ordered the Thai Tea with Boba. I was charged and they said that they were making it and he got some guy from the back to come make it and he tried to strike up a conversation with me to distract me or something. I watched the guy make my drink while I was chit chatting with the cashier and he looked really unsure of what he was doing. I saw him take some powder to make it and was like, "CRAP" but I already paid for it so what the heck was I supposed to do? I got my drink which he overfilled so once I put my straw in, the drink went everywhere. Good thing I was wearing shorts because if you don't know, Thai tea is ORANGE! I took a sip as I was walking away and realized there was no boba in there. I went back to ask for it. BIG MISTAKE! He put too much in there and the drink spilled on me AGAIN. The boba was already really sticky so it was hard to drink my drink and then when I managed to get one, the boba was hard and almost hurt my jaw to chew on. Needless to say, I threw the drink away and was thoroughly upset and thirsty for the rest of my shopping trip. The only reason they got 2 stars and not 1 is because it is a "sushi" place and I didn't have any sushi so I don't think giving them 1 just for their boba is fair.

My husband and I didn't think too much of it because we often get delicious pre-made sushi from the supermarket. After some confusion as to the content and price of the rolls (the plastic containers weren't labeled so we had to ask the the cashier what kind of roll each box contained), we got an avocado roll and an Alaskan roll. I also got an order of the lychee slush with tapioca (drink). While the price for our order was OK, the food was subpar. The avocado roll was ice-cold and hard from sitting in the refrigeration unit for too long. The Alaskan roll had very little fish and the imitation crab was seasoned with too much mayo. As for the drink, let's just say the tapioca was more like little pebbles rather than the soft and chewy texture tapioca pearls should have. Umi also offer teriyaki orders and other "hot" food; maybe those will be better choices. I wouldn't recommend the sushi and tapioca drink.
