This is a hidden gem in the southern Denver metro area. We came on a Sunday night and had such a fun bar dining experience. We had a chance to talk with the sushi chef and learned that the restaurant opened recently. The sashimi was excellent--supremely fresh and high quality. The nigiri rice was also excellent--well-seasoned, perfectly textured, and a great complement to the fish. I also loved the furnishing, atmosphere, and overall vibe of the restaurant. We ordered agedashi tofu, beef tataki with yuzu dressing, seven pieces of raw nigiri, and seven pieces of aburi nigiri. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended. read more

I was apparently not as fond of the food at this restaurant as other people have been. Let me first say that the service was extremely friendly and I liked it a lot, which makes me feel bad about what I'm about to say. Please note that I tried things that other people have mentioned in their reviews as things they liked. I had the crunchy tuna appetizer, which was essentially several golf ball sized lumps of rice deep fried, with a tiny amount of tuna and I think avocado on top. It probably should have been called the crunchy rice appetizer, and really was not, to me, worth $14. Next up was the Joker roll, which I believe is mentioned by more than one person as their favorite thing here. If you like pepper, it's the roll for you. I have never had such a peppery sushi roll in my life and I did not like it. My final roll was the mango roll. Now I know what mangoes are and I knew what I was getting, so I can't really blame the restaurant for the fact that I guess I've learned I'm not a big fan of sushi rolls with fruit on them. It was well made for what it was, just not my particular favorite. The miso soup was lovely. The restaurant was nice and clean and as I have said, the service was impeccable, friendly, really everything you would want. Which is all the more reason I was disappointed that the food did not ring a bell with me. If you go to this restaurant, I would suggest you avoid the things I've mentioned and perhaps try some others. You may have better luck than I did, and you will be served well in the process. read more

Izumi Sushi is a beautiful restaurant with a modern but almost clinical feel. The dishes were presented absolutely beautifully, and the prices seemed fair for what they were. We started with the calamari and it was good but nothing memorable. Some of the sushi rolls were on the smaller side. One roll contained crab that seemed almost puréed, giving it a mushy unappetizing texture. The second roll (their namesake the Izumi Roll) had tempura shrimp, which had not been deveined, which is completely unacceptable at any restaurant, but especially at a sushi restaurant. The moment I noticed it (mid bite) I was done eating. Nobody wants to find shrimp poo track in their food. (See photo) With the poor texture of one roll to the complete lack of basic preparation of the other, I can't recommend this restaurant. We will unfortunately, not be returning. read more

The recently opened Izumi in Castle Rock was packed with patrons on Friday evening. Heard many good words about this place, so have to tried it out. They require 3 days advance reservation for omasake greater than $100 and a week advance reservation for omakase greater than $200 to make sure the sushi chefs have enough time to order the right fishes. Heard they ordered their fishes 3 times per week to make sure having the freshest catch. The texture and taste of the sushi here reminded me of the ones at the more traditional sushi shops in Japan, not overly saucy, but good balance of buttery, savory, and clean ocean flavors. Also the ambience was welcoming and service was attentive. Certainly a new spot worth recommending. read more

We were greeted with smiles and the traditional irasshaimase when we entered the brightly lit restaurant. When I ordered, I ordered a large Sapporo and Ryker did look at me a bit odd, making me wonder if I had been ordering wrong these past thirty years. But it was brought to me in a mug, so I guess Sapporo seems to be on tap only, which is perfectly fine. We ordered Shishito Peppers and Miso Soup as an appetizer. Unagi, Tako, and Hamachi nigiri. We decided on the New Style Yellowtail Roll, Double Tuna Roll, and their Izumi Roll. The nigiri was brought out before the appetizers - new restaurant I guess, trying to get their timing right? Their Izumi Roll was spot on - the right mix of ingredients and warm tempura shrimp. The Double Tuna Roll was just that - tuna two ways with avocado and rice (I think it could have used maybe some shiso to blend with the tuna.) I was very interested in the New Style Yellowtail Roll, instead of jalapeños, they used Serrano peppers. Unfortunately, the peppers were very few but blended well with the yellowtail, maybe better than the jalapeño. The fried scallions though were a great addition. Service was great. Ryker checked on us occasionally, but did not hover like some, allowing us to enjoy our lunch. read more

I was really impressed with the quality of the sushi here. The rolls were super fresh, well-made, and delicious. Their specialty rolls were so unique, I absolutely loved the micro cilantro in the new style yellowtail roll and the seared tuna on top of the double tuna roll. I think their Philadelphia roll was maybe the best I've had. We also got the seaweed salad, which I loved (I only wish there was a bit more of it!) It had a really nice citrusy dressing that was different than other seaweed salads I've had. The place seemed very clean and the service was fantastic. The owner or manager came by to check on us towards the end of our meal as well. read more

Food was great! Still getting all the kinks out I'm assuming, so no draft list and no cocktail menu, but beer was ice cold! Honestly the best sushi we've had in Colorado, and all their crab dishes use real snow crab. No imitation crab meat here and you can tell the difference. AC must've been working overtime in there which was refreshing from the heat, but bring a jacket if you get cold easily. Service could use some more attentiveness, but overall we will definitely go back. Vibes were upscale and perfect for a date night. read more

When we walked in we decided to sit at the bar, they had no cocktail menu and were all teaching each other how to make drinks and googling how to make what. Understandable that they were fairly new but I feel like this isn't something a restaurant should half a**. When my husband ordered a macallan 12 year, the server told him that was very expensive like he assumed we couldn't afford it, like we know how much that costs otherwise we wouldn't have asked for it..... so he ordered something else instead. The Sushi was mediocre at best. The sushi rolls were massive and had too much sauce. They didn't taste fresh either. The salmon on one of the rolls was soggy and just not good. Not worth it for the money. We finished and they handed us a bill basically telling us to leave sooner rather than later. Didn't ask if we wanted another round of drinks or dessert. Probably won't be back which is unfortunate since we were really looking forward to a nice sushi restaurant in C-rock. read more

It presented like a fancy restaurant. Gorgeous decor, really excited to try it. Very expensive. Horrible service. Our appetizer was fried chicken and there were several white hairs in the coating, not sure if this was from a fresh plucked chicken or animal fur got in the batter. Like cat hair. Sushi was absolutely disgusting. Very wet and oozing, the rolls were falling apart and drenched in sauce. We couldn't even finish and left 90% on the table. Really disappointing.
