I've always loved the sushi here. The fish is consistently fresh, and it's one of my favorite places to order sushi. Unfortunately, my experience today was really disappointing. I ordered through the restaurant's app and decided to try the wonton soup and the crab & cheese wontons. The soup was simply listed as "wonton soup," so I expected traditional pork or chicken wontons. Instead, the wontons were filled with cheese, which I've never seen before. It was completely unexpected and honestly pretty gross in a soup. If the wontons are filled with maybe eggs, that should definitely be made clear on the menu. The crab & cheese wontons were also disappointing. They were mostly filled with a sweet cream cheese mixture and had very little crab. I'll definitely continue coming back for the sushi because it's always excellent, but I was very disappointed with the appetizers and hope the menu descriptions can be updated to better reflect what's actually being served. read more

We arrived for lunch, excited to try a few delicious rolls. Stephany remembered us, said we could sit anywhere and she would bring the menus over. The restaurant was quiet, a bit cold for my tastes but the Sapporo was even colder, to my liking. We started with the Lobster Dynamite - it was delivered hot, with a perfect mix of ingredients. The Never Try Never roll did not disappoint. The Amigo Roll almost had me speaking Spanish. I did not figure out why the salmon were upset in the Angry Salmon Roll, but it hit the spot. Updating my review from a few months ago. This time we dined in and had a great experience. Service was awesome. Special requests were honored. Drinks came in a timely fashion. Food delivery was a little sporadic. We all ordered something different and everything came out at a different time so that was kind of weird. The interior is beautiful and the taste of the sushi is very solid. We came and it was REALLY busy. Not any good spot to wait and I noticed some people seemed to get special treatment ie after placing their name on the "list" (not a real list because the hostess claimed she could remember everyone) they were guided to a place to sit and wait while others were crammed in a semi line one the hallway. In hindsight I probably should have gotten take out because without a reservation it took a good amount of time. I think we waited about 30 minutes and she gave a table to a party that came after us. I think she realized too which is fine I don't mind but having a number system to call might help the order system as well as clear up space in the front as well. Sushi side: Hamachi and Toro is superb quality, easily in top 20 and even close to top 10 places, no notes and so happy there is such a good option in Castle Rock. Great quality and taste. Rolls tend to be on the sweeter side and very large portions. Escolar was good, as the best it can be but Id highly recommend going off the daily special sheet that's offered with the sushi order form. It was a great foray into less common and delicious alternatives. I wish my server was a bit more informed on the tastes and types, but we managed just fine. Tai, Chinese, and other: Full standard menu of common dishes. Great for anyone who doesn't want sushi, and it stands on its own Chinese and Tai menu, if you are in the mood for those dishes. Luckily I didn't see tai green curry on the menu, or I would have had to order take out as well. Red curry is offered, and Pad Thai is next on the list. It packs up, so either call ahead or be willing to wait a bit during rush hours. They observed my reservation with us arriving a little early, they still sat us on time, but ahead of those waiting in the seating area. Standard noise during busy hours, which is the norm these days, but we could still hold a conversation even at peak. Family seems to be the name of the game with little ones trying new things. This was a cute little restaurant we got take out from because it was well reviewed. Over $100 of sushi was ordered and the rolls basically fit into two small trays. I counted to make sure all ordered really were there. They were, just really small and not very special looking even on the special rolls. It was for someone's birthday dinner as a group and actually embarrassingly meager. I had to take my personal cooked food entrees I'd ordered and set them out for all to dine on so everyone would be full. The teriyaki chicken had a strange foamy and yet tough texture but the sauce flavor was nice. Not enough veggies included in it though. Lo Mein with meat was okay, pretty weak in flavor but lo mein often is so I'd call it about average. No roll was stand out but they do sell fatty tuna which was lovely and as to be expected. Service was pleasant for our take out order and we left hoping for the best. Service... out of this world. KIND. TENTATIVE. It was the little things. Genuinely wanted to chat and was warm and welcoming. That was the beginning. Once the food came, blew my mind. Fresh, huge portions, beautiful and most importantly delicious. And the water had fresh cucumber slices in it (it's the little things that make the biggest impression) Everyone at the bar was chatting with each other (kinda a Cheers vibe) and felt like I was sitting with friends. This is the best sushi & Chinese I have had in castle rock and on par with the yummy spots in Denver. You have to try!! Everything we tried was delicious and fresh tasting! Rolls were well made and had lots of fish especially on the higher priced ones. The sushi tasted very fresh. It seems they use quality ingredients as the sauce to the Mongolian beef was very flavorful and clean tasting. It had a lot of beef in bite size pieces and plenty of veg. (Some restaurants don't seem to care and throw in just a few large chunks and call it good) The service was kind and attentive. It was my daughter's birthday and she had a crown that said so and staff stopped to wish her well and they even made up a little treat for her on the house as they don't have anything for birthdays yet. The ambience was great- they have a nice fairly large fish tank that you can sit by if you have littles to help them be occupied or just want to for yourself because it's cool. This place was packed on a Saturday night! The service was quick, helpful and very friendly. Food was delicious--the kind of Asian food/sushi that castle rock needed. For appetizers we got calamari which was nothing special but good. We also got the "nachos" which were more like 3 mini tostadas but were piled high with fish so we didn't mind that the description was a little off. We got miso soup which was flavorful. Their mackerel sashimi was prepared so incredibly perfect I was blown away. Mackerel, while super healthy, can be a little hard to palate due to being such a dry fish. Their mackerel was slightly warm with a very light drizzle of a sauce (which I usually do not want any sauce on any sushi) and simple perfection! All the sushi ordered was absolute decadence!
