    Crispy Tofu Bao Buns
    Bill M.

An easy contender for the best bar & restaurant in Ardmore! From the first moment that I stumbled upon it on the way to a dinner and just had to grab test cocktail, to the most recent time where I splurged on all the sushi and bao bun noms; Izzy's has been a place that never disappoints! It's called Izzy's because at its core it's a casual Izakaya where you can enjoy sushi, bao, drinks, and more without even needing a reservation (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2025/05/28/izzys-cocktail-bar-izakaya-ardmore/) four nights a week. But its all a passion project from the Ripplewood team that does all that with a good fusion twist that yields very little confusion. Your old fashioned might come with an aged dark rum instead of a whiskey, your salmon hand roll might be the perfect lox bagel without the bagel, and your bao bun might come birria taco style, and all of the above are absolute serendipity! The menu does shift regularly enough to the point where you'll find at least one new favorite among old staple with each visit, and you also want to be prepared to find out about specials and get spot-on recommendations from the welcoming staff. For cocktails I've immensely enjoyed their versions of dark & stormy's, olde fashioned's, the Last Word (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2025/06/19/izzys-ardmore-last-word/), and then some. But they also have a weel rounded selection of Japanese whiskeys, and you best believe that they have Hitachino Nest beer! For food I've enjoyed the following; Salmon Philly Handroll - The perfect lox bagel without the bagel comes with sushi grade salmon, creme fraiche, and everything bagel spice in a seaweed wrap. Hokkaido Scallop Handroll - the perfect buttery scallops with an umami bomb speak for themselves! Miso Soup - You haven't had miso soup until you had this freshmaker version that perfectly serves two. Hands down the best version I've ever had! Nigiri - All the nigiri, all of it is good! Spicy Cucumbers - the perfect chilled vegetable to share with the table with a bit of spice and flavor that rivals my belove Han Dynasty and Dan Dan versions! Birria Bao Buns - Somehow the best queso free birria I've had might not come with a taco?! [[HIGHLIGHT]]My favorite seat is the window booth that overlooks all of downtown Ardmore. But my second favorite is standing so I can play a free game of pinball![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Great service. Fun cocktails. Yummy sushi. Just don't go in thinking it's dinner. Tiny portions of beautifully-prepared food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I like the atmosphere but find the barstools uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Service is really friendly and it's a nice, intimate date spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had thought there would be a larger dinner menu, but this is really a cocktail bar with a few bites. My mistake. The drinks are very good and the food is very good, but if you make a dinner out of the food it gets expensive very quickly. I'll be back for either pre- or post-dinner drinks!

I had the privilege and honor to spend this past weekend with my bestie and she knows how much I love sushi so we checked out Izzy's. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance in here was so cool and cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think what this world really needs is more cocktail bars. The drinks here were the perfect combination of delicious and strong. We tried almost half the menu (my only mild complaint is the small food menu) and everything was delicious. Would highly recommend the crispy tofu bao buns and the salmon hand roll

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Absolutely loveeee the vibes at Izzy's![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cool, creative cocktails and lots of little dishes perfect for sharing. The bartenders are very personable and great with recommendations. I know it may sound basic but get the edamame, it's cooked PERFECTLY and has the perfect amount of yuzu salt. Highly recommend Izzy's!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Neighborhood vibe, friendly staff, creative and tasty cocktails.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Whose Blues and Juxtapose were both fantastic. I'm also a fan of the citrusy-salty edamame. Recommend!

    Pottery from the artist

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Omg the pottery bowl that holds the citrus fruit and the ceiling work really caught my eye![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] These chefs continue to impress with food you didn't know was possible on the mainline. Detail and honor. I wonder if they know or get along with the team at Ripplewood, another fav, just down the block!! Shout out to James and top notch bartenders the lot of em.

From the happy hour menu, the sliders, tuna nachos, and brussels sprouts were all very good -- special kudos to the brussels sprouts, which we went back for a second round of. Off the regular menu, the lobster bites were the standout: lightly breaded fried lobster, good enough to impress even though I'd just come from a week in Maine. The meatloaf was also excellent. The atmosphere is somewhat classy, the service was good, and the bartender was friendly. I'd definitely come back.

I knew there would be a problem when he scooped ice from the bin with his bare hand and put it in a glass. Appetizers and bread were delicious but my wife's salmon was a brick. My branzino was perfect but its accompanying risotto swam in way too much cream. The bartender perched himself at the far end of the bar, eyes glued to the televised World Cup. Eventually we called him over and discussed our findings on the meal and his lack of service to which he showed abundant disinterest. We will not return.

Service: each person with whom we interacted (hosts, manager, food runners and especially our server...she was fantastic). Food: For the table, we got Calamari: very light and crispy, but the meat was nice and tender Pepperoni and soppressata pizza: excellent, with an amazing sauce, sausage and crispy outside tender inside crust. Dinner: The kids both got the Rigatoni Vodka. This is what I had the first time we visited. It was just as delicious. Packed with flavor and the sausage was perfect. Tender, and just a touch of heat. My wife got the Gemelli. A pistachio pesto - this was probably the best pesto I've ever tasted. Creamy, fill of flavor and a touch of acid that brightened it up nicely. Incredible. I got the Bucatini Amatriciana. Pomodoro sauce with guanciale. Blew me away. The pomodoro was unbelievably well balanced. Exact amount of sweetness, slightly acidic and the guanciale brought the salty note, in the form of crispy crunchy bacon flavor, but surprisingly tender. Blown away. We had to try dessert. Tiramisu: it was as good as expected. Very well made Vanilla Panna Cotta: this was exceptional (like pretty much the rest of the meal) delicate and creamy, and a huckleberry compote (?) that was insanely good. A touch of salt was in there to make it positively sing. I could not more highly recommend giving this place a try. Absolutely the whole package. Loved it and will be back!

For my main course, I had a crispy fried chicken cutlet topped with a perfectly dressed Caesar salad (not on the menu but absolutely worth asking for). I believe it was around $31 and worth every bite. The frosé was spot on too but order it as soon as you sit down so it has time to reach that perfect consistency. The service was amazing . Everything was on point. I'll definitely be back!

There's a strange-looking critter up top along with just random stuff riddled around the bar, and a bunch of popular beers on tap. All the staff were really friendly (shout out to Kevin!), and they were on top of keeping drinks filled. I also ordered some food - a double smash burger and some fries. Both were really tasty - that burger was really juicy! Great fixings on that burger, but it's a bit on the small side, so if hungry, probably a good idea to order the extra patty. Fries were really good too. They take cash or card, and they hold on to your card in a cup near the register until you close out - not what I've usually seen, but makes sense, I suppose. I'd return for another hangout with the guys! Kevin, come toss some discs with us!

We decided to stop at The Grog Grill which I had only been to once before in the 23 years I've lived in the area. I recalled that at that time, the Grog burger had been named best of the Main Line so I tried it and thought it was definitely not the best burger. The service was excellent, the pub environment was pub-like, we were seated at a high top at the back of the restaurant and next to a door to to the outside which made it very cold! I wore my heavy coat the entire meal. Cobb salad - 3/5, I think it's hard to mess up a cobb salad, but this was just okay. Tons of bacon bits and not a lot of salad greens, almost like a deconstructed salad which is weird for pub food. Mushroom flat bread - 3/5, just okay What redeemed our lunch was that when we asked for the check, our lovely server told us that the older gentleman at the bar had taken care of it along with the checks for several other patrons that day.
