First time here and a very enjoyable dinner. First, while the restaurant is on Lancaster Ave, there is a sizable Septa lot behind accessible directly across from Ardmore Ave. The inside is deep. Front to back is big, with a good crowd despite sub20 degree cold. It's a sharing menu and we followed staff suggestions on number of plates, and frankly was too much. Next time I'd cut back. The charcuterie is just fantastic and ample. The miso broth mussels are perfect. The Peruvian meatballs, tender, and flavorful but not for me, but others loved them. Really a taste profile for me. The server is uber knowledgeable and helpful. Wines and drinks, including Cheat code, a NA drink is wonderful. read more

I just hosted a local meetup here this week, and it was a great space for it! From the outside, it looks really small, but this downtown Ardmore restaurant actually goes quite deep and there is a ton of space in the side room, bar and back room. I'd love to eat outside on the patio, once it warms up! We love the vegan options here. I highly recommend the Japanese BBQ tofu dish, it's my absolute favorite. The shishito pepper soba is also excellent and the shoestring fries are yummy too. The service here is really good. Support your local restaurant Local! read more

Great vibe here. Quiet enough to hear your dinner companions, but with enough energy and excitement to enjoy the restaurant experience. They always have new creative dishes and cocktails. You can tell flavor is front of mind at all times. Easy to park behind the restaurant. Deck out back in season. Loved our charcuterie board tonight too with great sides like lavender honey and strawberry tahini provided to accompany our cheese and meats. Creative, warm restaurant. Myself and a couple of friends came by last Tuesday for dinner. This was my first visit to this establishment. My first impression when walking in, is that the space is very cute, warm and inviting. Our server was very personable, explained the menu and portion sizes well and gave us recommendations on both food and drinks when we were stuck between a few options. The airline chicken was perfectly cooked, still juicy on the inside and well seasoned. The gorgonzola mac and cheese is packed with a punch, a delicious twist to mac especially if you love that gorgonzola flavor. The only thing I would comment on, is that both dishes were a bit heavy on the salt for me - but just barely. I didn't have any cocktails or wine, so I can't comment on that. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to return if I was in the area. read more

Came here for dinner with some friends one night. Our friend has been here with his wife many times for date night. We couldn't wait to try it! We first started off with a round of drinks. I got the English garden cocktail which was a refreshing gin drink. We then got the mac and cheese to share and our own entrees. I got airline chicken which was super juicy and flavorful. We dined on the outdoor rear patio with our dog. It wasn't busy and we were brought menus and our drink order was quickly taken. The drinks came quickly and we placed an order for a charcuterie board as well as some share plates. I was surprised that the charcuterie didn't come out earlier than the shares, but I guess that's just how long it took to prepare it. The charcuterie itself was superb - we opted for two cheeses and a meat. It came with bread and several sauces that paired well with our choices. It was a lot of cheese for three people. We also got the vegetable paella which was quite unique in a good way. The pineapple soba was also very good. Our standout favorite was by far the scallop crisp. Hands down fantastic with the coconut foam and jalapeños really making this dish shine. The waitress was also helpful in the choices since we were sharing, ensuring there would be enough food for us all. She even brought extra bread out to help us finish those great sauces. Overall, the patio was cute and quaint for its limited space, with string lights and small tables. It felt private even though there was another couple seated nearby. The waitress made sure our dog had a bowl of water too which is always great. There is a view of the parking lot and train tracks, but if you can get over that, I'm sure you'll have a very enjoyable time. We'll be back! read more

This is a cute spot, nice vibe. We were looking for some light food and drinks so were to happy to find a place that offers shareable plates. We sat at the bar and ordered 5 dishes and each ordered a wine flight, little heavy handed on the pours so couldn't finish any of mine. I had a mix of reds, whites, and rose, and I enjoyed most of them. Appreciate being able to try new wines. This is a tough one; a 4 star but leaning towards a 5. Honestly, I recognize that the food and hospitality industry has taken a bad hit throughout the pandemic and that changes the ambiance and overall feel. Upon entering, the ambiance is subdued and very pleasant. The barkeep is also the hostess, and....ALSO the server. Without being nit picky that is what I was referring to in my first paragraph. This Jack or Jill of all trades implied that they determine how much help they'll need on any given night, they said that on this night they asked the additional help to not come in. So, this is not a case of not being able to find willing workers (big problem everywhere it seems). Frankly, I'd have been far more comfortable not having to watch this person bustle around doing everything...which they DID manage beautifully. For whatever reason we were having an extremely difficult time deciding what we wanted, no fault of a limited menu, there was plenty to choose from- even for a pescatarian like myself. The server said they are known for their Mac and cheese with shaved brussel sprouts (app). It was indeed next level but was also a tad salty. Our 2 main courses, grilled eggplant parm and branzino, were served beautifully and tasted good as well. We did have one drink that was also good. Cute spot in Ardmore with Ardmore-average prices. My husband and I walked in on a Tuesday night and waited for minutes and nobody came to the host desk, nobody greeted us or told us anything. But it looked busy, so we went for a walk and came back half an hour later when it was less busy, but still no one greeted us, so we sat at the bar, where the bartender was friendly-ish but still, the service was slow. The drinks were tasty--I liked that they had a variety of non-alcoholic drinks and cocktails in addition to wine, which seems to be their specialty. The food is all listed as "shareables." We ordered two salads, the soba noodles (+$10 for two large shrimp), and scallops ($24 for 3). The +$10 for two large shrimp seemed kind of expensive to me, but the shrimp were perfectly cooked and juicy, and tasted fresh, if a little too salty. Same with the scallops. The charred romaine salad was a bit wilted from the heat, which made it hard to cut. The radicchio and arugula salad was complex and flavorful. Overall, pretty good! read more

We stopped here for dinner after having drinks at Tired Hands. On a Monday, it wasn't very crowded at all. My husband and I got the Chili Soy Glazed Octopus, Little Neck Clams, Airline Chicken, and Peruvian Meatballs. The octopus was outstanding. The flavors were perfect. The clams were also very good. I loved the green curry. The seasoning on the chicken was good, but I found the chicken a little dry and the horseradish mash to be lacking horseradish (I prefer dark meat and it was white meat so I'm sure that contributed). The meatballs were kind of bland as was the orzo it was served with. This place seemed to have a lot of potential. I loved the portion size. The dishes were hit or miss for me, but I would give them another chance. read more

We recently had dinner for 2 at Local. To get to the point, this place offers some amazing 'tastes' (some new tasty approaches to food items). We tried the local St. Malachi cheese - a hard cheese with great flavor served with a mustard and a spread (I forgot the veggie in the spread), wild arugula & radicchio salad (excellent turmeric ginger dressing), Japanese BBQ crispy tofu (to me a *very unique and delicious* tofu (yes, tofu)), herb roasted chicken (delicious), and the lamb lollipops (outstanding). We also tried the watermelon vodka cocktail special and it was wonderful. Parking in Ardmore isn't always fun but you can park in the lot behind the restaurant if you can find a spot. Service was friendly and attentive. Local is a little pricey but the effort behind the cooking and the new takes on the food they offer make it worth the spend. We plan to go again - but this time with other couples! read more

We were excited to check out Local just for the name but this may well have become our new celebration spot. First of all I would award a 6th star if I could for having a drink called The Balrog. LotR Fans rejoice. This drink was really fun and smokey. Highly recommended if you like whiskey. We started off with the 5 cheese charcuterie board. It was a very generous portion. Probably would have been fine with the 3 cheese option split among four people. Our main courses were outstanding. I enjoyed the Wild Arugula salad which was beautiful and delicious and a nice detox after gorging myself with cheese. The first bite of the risotto was mind blowing. The flavor was just so darn good. Eggplant Parm was some of the most tender eggplant we've ever had and the presentation was 5/5. The angel hair pasta stole the show with a combination of wonderful presentation and flavor. The pesto sauce is made with avocados instead of pine nuts which creates an amazing silky texture in the sauce that was just divine. Our server Gabby was very knowledgeable and explained that this is a nut-free kitchen which is great for allergies. One of the most fantastic parts of Local are their prices. None of our meals were over $15 but were all the highest quality. Affordable + High Quality + Tasty + Local = sign me up and keep me on the list. read more

I have been to Local more times than I can count. It rarely disappoints. The staff is attentive, not friendly in a weird way, just professional, respectful, and efficient. Drinks are great. Creative, beautiful, delicious. Decent wine list. Solid, good food. The decor is cozy and low key. Bar is comfortable. They have a small dining room in the front and much larger one in the back. And they have a small deck for outside dining. I have had some exceptional meals, many good ones, and just a few instances when something wasn't quite r if it. But I have probably eaten here over 30 times, so that's pretty good! Reasonable prices and nice selection in the menu, which rotates seasonally. Highly recommended. read more

Risotto with veggies cooked to perfection.Pastas looked great, as did seasonal fish! bread + olive oil were delicious as were the creative Custom made cocktails. I love a good cheese/charcuterie board and there were rumors that they were dynamite here! My Yelp App said they opened at 4:00 so I showed up a few minutes after that and experienced one of those good news, bad news situations. Yes they were open; but just the bar, not the kitchen which opened at 5:00. I find it annoying when a restaurant does that and with a little checking discovered I'm far from the first customer to be bitten by this. So early diners, you've been warned. More good news. I sat at the beautiful front bar and chatted with what turned out to be an excellent bartender. She was knowledgeable about both the food and the adult libations and was a great conversationalist. My CUSTOMER SERVICE for the evening was just fine. Considering the name of these folks you might want to try a glass of wine. I had a choice of seven or eight reds and an equal number of whites by the glass. I sipped on an excellent merlot. They also have a cocktail list with half a dozen choices. I enjoyed a Fig-ment of My Imagination which contained fig infused bourbon, Italian sweet vermouth, and angostura bitters. Expect to pay about $10 for either wine or cocktails. There is also a small, mostly crafts, beer list. The clock struck five and I was able to order a small cheese/charcuterie board which is three choices for $16. There were ten meats and cheeses to choose from. I've been to a few places that have a wider VARIETY but ten is not bad. As you can see from my pic it looked fantastic. Regarding QUANTITY, I found the portions of cheeses heavier than many boards and the meat portion lighter than most. The carnivore in me growled just a little. Most importantly the QUALITY was very very high. Every bite was exceptional. I especially enjoyed the Hickory on the Hill cheese from Coatesville, PA. By the way, that red accompaniment you see is house-made Poached Tomato Jam and it was amazing! The AMBIANCE here is warm and cozy. A cheese/charcuterie board and some wine would make a very nice date night. I can't wait to return for dinner. You can bet it will be after five. read more

Local is usually one of my favorite spots in Ardmore. I've been to Local many times over the years, for apps & drinks at the bar or for dinner. The last two times we came to Local, we were disappointed in the service. A month ago we stopped in for a cocktail at the bar with my mother-in-law who was visiting -- it was at least 20 minutes before we put in our order, and it was 45 minutes (!) when we got our drinks. Also, no one wiped down the bar so it was dirty from the previous folks who sat there. We almost left, but the bartender said he started making our drinks so we stayed. We understood the bartender was stressed. We tried it again last night for dinner with some friends from out of town (had a reservation this time). It wasn't nearly as busy as a few weeks ago, but it took 30 minutes to get our cocktails and wine. The waiter could have checked in on us a few more times - we felt a bit ignored. The food was incredible, though -- everything we tried was perfect (brussel sprouts, mac & cheese, lamp lollipops, 2 orders of shoestring fries, chorizo pasta, chocolate ganache). I'm hoping the issues with service is just a blip because we love the food here. read more

Such an upscale, yet relaxed restaurant on Lancaster Ave in Ardmore! The restaurant we were originally supposed to go to had an hour and half wait; but I'm so glad it did. We ended up at the perfect place for a dinner with friends, or even a romantic meal! It was more on the quiet side and not too crowded, which is exactly what I was looking for. I went for beer, but my friend opted for the mixed drinks. I tried hers and they were exceptionally fresh and had great flavor accents. The English Garden was my favorite because of the gin and citrusy flavors. We shared a cheese and charcuterie plate with the Bucherondin and Idiazabal cheeses, and the in-house meat. It was accompanied by honey, pineapple chutney, pickled peppers, and whole seed mustard. This was probably my favorite part of the meal and I wish we had ordered more! As for the entrees, we had to wait quite a while due to a backup in the kitchen. This didn't even phase us because of the casual ambiance of the room and beautiful cheese platter we snacked on! I enjoyed the time to take a step back and talk instead of rushing through a meal. I went with the crab salad for my meal and man was that tasty. Cold lump crab meat with a lemon dressing, topped with mashed avocados, and some caviar. Really hit the spot and filled my stomach without over-stuffing it. My friend went with the diver scallops and was pleased with her choice as well! I will be recommending this restaurant to people visiting the area and will definitely be back myself. I would dine here again just for the cocktails and a charcuterie board! Expect excellent quality and a relaxing evening when dining here. read more

This was my first indoor dining experience since COVID, and it was a great way to ease myself back into it. Went here on a Wednesday evening and we were one of the only people in the restaurant. Service was awesome (super nice and personable). The atmosphere of the bar and rest of the dining areas is exactly what you want in a causal wine bar with eclectic decor and exposed brick. Great classic rock music. The food was exactly as explained and so delicious. We got a charcuterie board, two entrees, and cheesecake, and it was all amazing. We sat right up front by the windows. Despite being right on Lancaster, we barely heard the traffic. Will definitely be back. read more

My friend and I had a 745 dinner reservation. We ordered a wine flight, which was fine. When the server came to take our order he said we're out of a lot of items and then proceeded to name half the menu. All that was left was fries, noodles, and the entrees. If food alone was a consideration, this would be a 5-star rating for sure. Food was delicious, no doubt; everything we had had been prepared with care and creativity, and brimmed with flavor and originality. Kudos to the chefs! Service was good enough. The ambiance, however, didn't allow us to fully enjoy the delightful food. It's WAY too noisy, and there are no noise-abatement measures in place to muffle the sound that reflects and reverberates all over. One particularly loud table can ruin your meal. Even after we asked to move to a table in the back, we had to strain to hear each other. What would it take to put tablecloths on the tables? They would add to the ambience and perhaps help to abate the noise. The glorious food served at this restaurant deserves better. read more

The cheese and charcuterie board was an explosion of nuanced flavors, the pork was perfectly cooked and portioned, and the chocolate ganache transported my body and soul to an alien universe of out of this world flavor, the perfect ending to the best meal I've had in several decades. My girlfriend and I were in town for a concert, down from Jersey City, and I was really pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. The prices were very reasonable, the cocktails were great (and not too sweet!), and the food was very good. Add on top of that reasonable service and it has me giving 5 stars. Do make sure, however, to make a reservation. There was a pretty long line that we avoided by booking on Open Table on our way down. As I mentioned, the restaurant was crowded, but we were seated relatively quickly and started the evening with a cocktail. I'm picky about my cocktails--we have good cocktail bards in Jersey City and I don't like sweet drinks--and, after seeing syrups in most of the drinks, I was worried I wouldn't enjoy them. Our waitress understood my apprehension and recommended a cocktail she had invented. It was so good I had another! Our food was also very good. My partner has an allergy and the staff were understanding and directed her to a dish that didn't have the allergen, and I got the rabbit dish. Though I wasn't expecting pasta, I was very, very happy with the food. So good! If I'm back in Ardmore, I'd be happy to eat here again. read more
