Do you remember the episode of Sex in the City where Carrie goes to LA and is "robbed" by the waxer? My first trip to Judith went a little like that. Of course she knew what was best for me and knew what I wanted, even if I wasn't able to communicate it. She has opened my eyes to a whole new world, a naked, hairless world and I have never looked back. The best part is how quick she is. 12 Years Ago: Let's just say my first wax experience was with the infamous J Sisters on 57th Street in NYC where I laid bare in a harshly lit room resembling a doctor's office. Kellee is an amazing stylist. I have been getting my hair cut by Kellee for about a year. Before moving to STL, my DC friends had told me if was coming to Saint Louis I had to track her down. It's true -- She is the best! Kellee's incredibly skilled, laid back, a great listener, and will talk to you about what you want in detail and always has great ideas. (She might even offer you a brew along the way!). She does gorgeous color. Seeing the cuts kellee's done for friends and family (my husband and little brother have both gone to Kellee), her range is pretty impressive -- from sexy short pixie cuts, to suit-n-tie wearing men's cuts, to hip artsy grandmas, cherubic toddler curls, mod bangs, and beachy "lobs" -- Kellee does it all. Even went to her last minute before a black tie event and got a killer updo! On top of all that she's hip as hell and one of the easiest people to talk to. I can't recommend Kellee enough. An underground speakeasy of fashion greatness -- so FUN!! and yet-- am I in an underground speakeasy here? Upon walking in, I was greeted with a pair of empty couches, stone walls, and the sound of a hair dryer in the room next door. Okaaaay.... I will have a seat. Upon paging through the glossy designs of a recent fashion magazine, I arrived on my appointment time with Emily. The artist who was soon to craft my new (SHORT) hairstyle. Now let it be known that I am not a fearful client. I do not feel that my hair creates my persona. BUT... Stylists always tell you to look at old photos of yourself and decide which one "made you look HOT" OK. So I made an executive decision (and was sick and tired of spending money to dye my hair in intricate ways each month) to cut my hair OFF in a delicious pixie style. Things at J3 went very well. My hair was transformed from a frumpy, shoulder-length crop into a face-illuminating short.....ummm...PIXIE!!! If you're going to go short, you might as well go all the way. After chopping all of my hair off, I realized that my eyebrows needed some tender care. Luckily one of the most famous (other than your head) hairstylists in St. Louis works within this same salon. She quickly brought me into her own rocky and underground speakeasy and POOFED my eyebrow shreds into brushstrokes worthy of a Chinese painting. I have been a J3 regular since it opened and a Judith groupie for over 5 years. At J3, you are treated as part of an elite clientele, or family. I find it hard to believe, and frankly think the person is lying, that Judith insulted them on their first visit. Anyone who has met Judith knows she respects and is open to all different opinions about anything and everything. On more than one occasion, I have been so engaged in conversation that I didn't even flinch when Judith was taking care of things south of the border (if you know what I mean). If you are looking for somewhere you are treated like a "customer" and want to talk at someone rather than engage in conversation, J3 is not for you. I came to Missouri to be a bridesmaid for a wedding . My packed schedule require I get my hair cut in St. Louis, despite being from Houston. I checked out reviews for a few places and J3 Studio had availability with Tara. I was nervous since it was a total stranger cutting my hair for a big event, and I wanted a new style to boot. Unfortunately, she did a really fantastic job. My new shorter cut held its shape great for 6 weeks (which never happens!). I even considered flying back to St. Louis for some reason to use her again. Now, she has set a very high bar, and I am left searching for someone locally who can meet it. My old stylist just won't cut it anymore (haha). The atmosphere of J3 was good. I have been to Judith for a wax a few times. She was my first wax and she did the whole shebang. I've waxed my own legs for years and am very aware of the pain that comes along with waxing. I've also become somewhat desensitized over the years which helped in my decision to go ahead with the wax of all wax. For being in the most vulnerable state as a female, laying down with your legs spread apart and eventually up in the air for a minute, I felt very comfortable there. The setting is relaxing as well as Judith's professional/nonchalant demeanor. She keeps you distracted as she essentials rips the most course hair on your body ha. Waxing is waxing and it's gonna hurt a little. If you want the best experience, you need to make an appointment with Judith. The wait to get in is long for a reason. I've been here about 4 times to see Judith. Every time I go I am amazed at how great she is- personality wise and professionally. I've only seen her for waxings, but I know she does other skin and face treatments. And I believe she's expanded her crew and now does hair. I moved to St. Louis about 6 months ago from a city that was much more salon and spa oriented, so I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find anyone who could meet my needs, but Judith is by far and away the BEST waxer I've ever had! I recently started going to J3 Studio for my bikini wax as I've been to many different aestiticians over the years and havent been too thrilled as of lately. I find that Judith's personality puts you immediately at ease as she is very laid back and treats you like she's known you for years. She has fun music playing and the room is very spacious compared to your typical spa treatment room. You also don't wear those silly paper panties.
