Its hard to know who to trust coming into your home for repairs. You look at reviews and hope you will make the right choice. Thats how I felt when my A/C stopped blowing cold air. Who to choose? Will it be expensive? Can I trust them? I chose J&I Heating & A/C based on their positive reviews and they were a local company. Juan came out within a couple hours. He was on time and very friendly. He was able to diagnose the problem and had the part I needed on his truck. It took only 20 minutes from start to finish. It was less expensive than I thought and came with a warranty on parts and labor. They take credit cards too. One thing though they don't have room on the truck for every possible filter need so you have to get one yourself if you need it. I get mine on Amazon or Home Depot. Wow...this is definitely a much different review than the original. When reaching out to report and request troubleshooting of new unit, we were met with an unprofessional attitude, accusatory tones, and contention. As we continue to troubleshoot and research on our own because we refuse to pay another dime for a system that was installed two weeks ago and having problems, we stumbled upon the issues and oversized unit can cause - the issues we continue to report; temperature cannot get to temp set at the thermostat, high humidity, and a system that keeps running. Our home is 1246 sq ft, which I made sure to inform Juan of when discussing replacing our HVAC system. He confirmed that he knew that and he was replacing with a 3 ton unit. Turns out, a 3 ton unit in my region is for a 1500 sq ft home, which would explain why the unit he replaced was a 2.5 ton unit - slightly oversized and could be why it only made it to year 9. Extremely disappointed that an oversized unit has been placed on my property, resulting in unnecessary stress and discomfort, higher energy usage, likely, higher upfront costs because a larger unit costs more, and all the horrible things that can come when the humidity is too high in a home. Oops, let's not forget that an oversized unit will result in faster wear and tear causing the system to deteriorate leading to purchasing a new system sooner than expected. Super disappointed and even more stunned that an owner of a company would make such a mistake and speak to his customers the way he is speaking to us. I would also like to add that Juan did come out to the home on July 22nd (twice), after we had initially reached out to him on July 19th letting him know that we noticed Freon coming from our backyard drain to the curbside gutter. His response is something you'd expect to receive from a friend, "Wow you're really using that unit" and then said that when the condensation hits the asphalt it turns green - it was green in my drain hole and in the gutter, which we have never seen before. Therefore we thought we had a leak. I quickly begin researching leaks and find how the garage unit needs to be sealed tight to ensure the home stays cool and to also keep carbon monoxide out of the home. The only portion of our message he responded to was how absurd it was that we were worried about carbon monoxide. Again, I wouldn't have to research if the person and company I paid to do a job would figure out what is wrong. This is when he comes out for the second time on July 22nd and was immediately upset with us for turning the system off before he arrived in the evening. It had been running for 8 hours straight, after he came out earlier and it had not dropped even 1° in temperature. During the first visit, everything was running "fine" so he swapped out the thermostat thinking that was the issue - Nope, didn't work. Circling back, he returns at 8 pm and is, clearly irritated and upset, and says again, "I don't know what you guys are up to" because we turned the system off. His response, "You've been running it for 5 days like this. Why turn it off now? How do I know that you aren't up to something? It could have made it to 73° by the time I got here." I couldn't believe this response. He had zero concern that the unit hadn't cooled in 8 hours and, clearly, has no empathy or respect for his customers bottom line. He spent 75 minutes in our home that evening. We are doing a remodel, which he knows, because he was referred to us by that contractor, his neighbor. Anyhow, he checked the air filter, and it was quite dirty for being in for 11 days. However, the other contractor (his neighbor) failed to properly secure the vent that covers the air return and cavity, resulting in dog hair and debris easily entering the area. This was noticed July 25th, mind you Juan was in my home on the 22nd and walked past this multiple times never saying anything. Moving on, he ran the unit without the air filter in to see if that would result in a drop in temperature - it did not, and then with a new, clean air filter - nothing again. He continued to troubleshoot. He finally chose to add more refrigerant to the unit stating it was at 8.3 and he would increase it to 10. After this was done, the unit began to cool the home. By July 24th the unit is struggling again, which it continues through July 25th, we reach out again and are met with more contention. He continues to ask us, "What are you up to," as if we have anything to gain from a system that isn't working properly. Personally, I think this is a guilty conscience, and he knows what an oversized unit does to a system. Very early morning on July 26th, I emailed him with the newly discovered information that I learned and asked for the system to be replaced, at no cost, within the next day or two. Juan showed up on time of the scheduled appointment and assessed the problem with the AC unit. Juan M. explained the problem in details and I had to make a decision whether to patch up a 30 yr old AC unit or purchase a new AC unit. I made the decision to purchase a new unit. Juan uses tactics to slowly get more and more money out of you. We had to pay for everything up front before any work was done and each time it still needed a next step for more money without an end. Be weary of how much work he says needs to be done and if the work is being completed as agreed upon. We paid for new pigtail replacement with new parts and a new transformer but after things kept not getting fixed we went to look at the heater ourselves and found only a new transformer using the old pigtails. All in all we are out a over 500 hundred dollars and needed to get a different guy after. read more

This review is way overdue... I had been without an A/C for more than a year before I had contacted J & I Heating and Air. A lot of other A/C companies I contacted were way over-priced and had long wait times. John came through with a very reasonable estimate and what was more awesome was that he was able to install that same week! John and his helper were very professional, clean, they covered the entire work area AND they arrived early which is a major plus! In one day they removed my old complete A/C unit and had my new system with smart thermostat installed, up and running (with a quick lesson on operation and filter changes).... they were so quick they even had time to do a repair at my in-laws house down the street!!
