Dispatch assured me they would arrive on time to get me to the airport. Sure, cost was more than ride apps, but the assurance of security, professionalism and peace of mind was worth it. Had a great ride with Ed from the airport so I decided to schedule another trip the next morning. As I am writing this, they are 45 MINUTES LATE and I've called multiple times to confirm that the driver was still coming. There was a "driver miscommunication" and supposedly the driver was coming up the road and almost there. I am missing the first quarter of my tour now and none of their dispatchers will pick up the phone now. I AM BEING IGNORED AND THEY ARE LIARS. I've re-booked with Asheville Taxi and they have a splendid app similar to Uber where you can track how far they are. They're much quicker and prices are good! My ride is here and it only took 8 minutes from the time I booked for them to come. My J&J ride is probably "still on the way." I'd highly RECOMMEND ASHEVILLE TAXI over J&J. The car situation in Asheville is really shotty but at least their app helps alleviate a lot of that anxiety. Recommended to me by the lady at the desk at the Residence Inn. Old school she wrote down on a piece of paper the name & number. I called them for a ride to downtown and was picked up almost immediately. I asked the dude for a good place to go for a tasty micro-brew and he directed us to Wicked Weed. Which had a real nice couple beers there. On the way back; we had a separate cabber guy that we flagged downtown... We were gunna go back to the hotel but ole' boy directed us to another awesome spot (One World) so we had to go... And we still used them for the eventual ride home. I was scheduled to be picked up at 6:45 am and 15 minutes before the pick-up, I get a call from the driver saying the total charge is now going to be $21. Since I had no other option, I decided to go with it. NO ONE PICKED ME UP AND LEFT ME STRANDED!!!! I tried calling the driver and he pushed all of my calls to voicemail, called the company's main line and they didn't pick-up the call as well. The lady that answered the phone to take my reservation was nice, however they were extremely, ridiculously high. I asked the driver, who was nice, to pick me up in Arden to take me to my home in Waynesville. They charged me $110. I could not believe how much I had to pay. I needed to get home so I paid it. They're very next day. I needed a ride for my home back to Arden to pick up my car and I called a different cab. They only charged me $42. I will never ever ever again call J&j. If I could give zero stars, I would. We scheduled a taxi for 10am and they showed up 45 minutes late and I had to call 3 times in that time. The driver kept saying he was close or there, when he never was. We also schedule a van for 5 people and they showed up with a small car, so we had to fit 4 people in the back. Car also smelled of smoke. No discount or apology. I would never use them again or recommend them EVER, terrible service. read more

These guys are the absolute worst. I called for a cab not 200 yards from their depot. Not knowing this, the dispatcher insisted that I wait rather than walk to the depot. After 15 minutes of no cab, I began to walk towards the depot and called back. The dispatcher told me there was "no way" I had waited 15 minutes, that they can't "pick up a moving target", and then hung up on me as I told him he wasn't being very helpful. Whatever you do, stay away from Blue Bird. I recently relayed this experience to a friend who told me one of their drivers showed up to his house drunk, vomited out of the car in front of his house, and proceeded to drunkenly drive the group downtown. Seems A-Red cab and New Blue Bird taxi are one in the same. 1st time I called New Blue Bird, the dispatch lady was fairly abrasive and I almost said "never mind, i'll call someone else," but I'm glad I didn't because the driver was very helpful and friendly, open to taking a faster route than the one through town, etc. I was in such a hurry I, embarrassingly, forgot to tip after paying with my card at the end of that trip, so I called again today and asked for the same driver, Jesse. This time the dispatcher seemed much more courteous, even sweet, on the phone, and Jesse was super cool about the tipping situation. For future reference, it turns out when someone tips on a card the business gets half of it anyway--from now on I'll try to have at least a little cash on hand! I've used Checker Cab before and feared/hoped I'd left my keys in the backseat; after multiple calls over the course of a week talking to someone different every time (sometimes the person answering was not even at the business, so couldn't check right then), I gave up. It seems to me most of the cab companies have unfortunate issues in their offices, but usually the drivers seem pretty decent. Too bad it's not like New Orleans, where you could just call the drivers directly and skip dispatch, altogether! read more

Pretty good taxi company overall that I've used a few times but one major issue on my most recent trip....the driver showed up at the house we were at and as we were getting our bags we saw him out the window driving off! Luckily we were able to catch him but I just couldn't believe how easily he would have left. I mean, I could see if we were standing on a crowded street downtown, but we specifically called a cab to the address of a house. Do people prank call cabbies? That's messed up. Overall, these are solid and reliable (but not too chatty) drivers from most of my experiences. Once I was a tad worried with all the windy and curvy roads but I'd feel that way about my own driving in this mountain town too. A group of friends and I used this company to get from downtown Asheville to our cabin, and it was an absolute nightmare. The driver was creepy and continued to tell us that where we were staying had people walking around with "pig skin masks on," then continued to turn off his headlights and drive in the dark...at 2am. He made inappropriate comments and jokes the entire night about us getting killed on our trip, which was very unprofessional and downright rude to paying customers. This company put a bad taste in my mouth for all of the cab companies in the area. Never again will I be returning unless I use a Lyft. read more

Per our Tour leader, I pre-booked my cab from the Asheville Airport to our hotel. I had to change the pick-up time twice. The dispatcher was extremely courteous and very helpful. The driver arrived on time, was a responsible driver and had a reliable and clean vehicle. He was also very kind. I pre-arranged my ride back to the airport when my trip ended, and once again everything went smoothly. I would definitely use this company again and I would recommend them to everyone. read more

I've attempted to use J & J Cab 2 to 3 times per week over the past 6 months mainly to get back and forth between work and my apartment after the buses have quit running. I don't have anything negative to say about the drivers - they've all been professional, courteous, and friendly. The young man who answers the phones on Sundays is truly a joy to talk to - he's very customer oriented. I do, however, have a problem with the lady who answers the phones during the week and she is the reason as to why I will no longer use J & J. I don't care what day of the week or what time of the day I call, she has an attitude and never ever have I been able to get a cab when she answers the phone. Her excuse has always been the same - "We only have 2 drivers working right now." Are you kidding me? With all the cab companies that J & J owns, I would think that they would have more than 2 drivers working. I have called as early as 3 pm and as late as 9 pm - this dispatcher refuses to take my reservation. We've even had one occurrence when she told us not to make a reservation and then she agreed to take our info - we ended up waiting over an hour only to call back and find out that she never put our information into the system. While I realize I can bypass the dispatcher and use an app on my phone, I prefer to use the old school method and actually talk to the dispatcher. I just recently tried to use J & J for the final time. Once again, I was told they had no cabs available. I then called Asheville Taxi. Not only did I get a cab (in under 10 minutes I might add) but the dispatcher actually treated me like she wanted my business and my driver was a joy to ride with. I called for a price estimate for a trip from downtown Asheville to the airport and was told it would be between $25 to $28.00. Made a reservation for a cab the following day for 10:30 a.m. At 10:30 there was no sign of them. Called the dispatcher and (very politely) tol!d her that. She said "WHAT OF IT"! Unbelievable. The cab showed up about seven minutes later. The driver was pleasant. I mentioned the dispatcher and he said that they get quite a few complaints about her. About halfway to the airport the meter read $25.00 and the final charge was $46.00. I told the driver that he should know what I'd been quoted - though I knew he had nothing to do with it - and he asked when and what time I'd called and said he'd mention it. Every time we called they would say we are pulling in & then still be 20+ minutes before they arrived. I rode with these guys several times while in Asheville. They were prompt and the drivers were nice. I actually had the same driver twice and he recognized me and we had a nice conversation. My wife and I were in asheville for a five day vacation. We utilized the area taxi service whenever possible so we could enjoy some nightlife. The taxi services was economical and fast and equaled the cost of parking charges. It also allowed us to have enjoyable time downtown without having to worry about driving back to our B&B. Kristen was our driver that we continued to ask for. We could rely on her and she was able to take care of us our entire trip! After trying to call in the morning when they were late, and getting no one to pick up fortunately I was able to contact another service (checker cab) to pick me up last minute. I'm giving them 2 stars only bc some actually called me 20 minutes after pick up time to tell me they were running late, they still weren't headed to my place. Took the 'long way' to get to our destination according to GPS and the dropped us half a block away. Worst cab company I've ever used. The drivers are great but the woman who is supposed to be the dispatcher during the week is a nightmare. I had just finished at the Eye Dr where I received a treatment that left me unable to drive. Tried to use the companies Cab Hound app and it didn't work. Attempted to call cab company and were told that no drivers were available. After 5 or 6 attempts I asked the dispatcher if they could send me a cab when there was one available. I was told "No, there are no cabs available." The dispatcher refused to send one when a cab was available. When I asked to speak to a supervisor to complain about the dispatcher and her rudeness she refused. This cab company should lose there franchise. I think I will also file a complaint with the BBB. read more

She said the cab would be 20 minutes. After 45 mins I called and she took my number and said the cab was on its way. After another 20 minutes and no cab, I received a RUDE voicemail message from them. She said "it's a nice thing to do to call a cab back when one drives all the way down there and your *** ain't there." We NEVER saw a cab! My phone didnt ring, I just got the voicemail. Got picked up promptly and to our destination quickly. However, AFTER we arrived at our destination, the driver insisted I pay cash - which I did not have on me - because it would take "five to ten minutes to do" by credit card. I only had two credit cards on me, so we had to wait four minutes (I watched the clock) while he hand-wrote my info and called it back into dispatch. My first card did not go through. When I gave him my second card, he insisted we go to an ATM (he wasn't going to charge for the ride to the ATM and back). We went to my bank (because I'm not paying any fees by using another bank's ATM) and he complained about how far away it was (it is 0.8 miles away according to google maps). You know how every ATM only disperses $20 increments? Yeah, EVERYONE knows that. So it shouldn't have been a surprise to find out that the cab driver did NOT have adequate change for the ride. I still tipped him, but it was much larger than I would have because he didn't have any $1s on him. My main issue with this company is the fact that they do not accept credit cards easily. If they have a terrible way of handling credit card transactions then the company has options for resolving this: get a smart phone square (like every other small business), ask the costumer how they are going to pay when the customer calls, inform the customer about their credit card issues, offer to stop at an ATM while en route (at no charge), KEEP ADEQUATE CHANGE AT ALL TIMES. I am never going to ride in Yellow Cab again. Either that or I just won't pay for my ride if someone won't accept my payment. read more

The dispatcher was really nice to me when i called. Within five minutes of calling a white van showed up. I was confused at first until the driver told me that Beaver Lake Cab and Yellow were owned by the same company. The driver was very nice and clean and funny, but the car smelled a little like puke(#28).
