Nut allergy friendly: Yes, it is! I think most dishes are fine, if not all. I saw this spot on Yelp's top 25 new Ramen restaurants in the U.S. for 2024 and had to stop in. I didn't read the article fully beforehand so I didn't try the recommended spicy beef or black garlic paitan, but I was surprised to see a tom yum soup and had to get it. I sampled my friend's pork paitan and found the pork to be very tender. My chicken tom yum soup was very good with a rich umami shrimp-tomato-spice flavor. There was a good portion of noodles. It's a bit far of a drive but I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area! I'd rate it in my top 5 ramen in Houston, though it is far from the rest and definitely the best in its area. read more

My friends and I were in the Katy area and wanted ramen to warm our souls. After a quick Yelp study, I decided on this place due to the 5.0 star score. I think it's a fairly new spot. Service - was great. Place was empty upon our arrival, only one other guest. The nice older lady that was the only server in the place had informed us up front that we get 20% off our bill. After trying their $20 all-you-can-eat lunch, I would say that J&J deserves 5 stars for the quality of its sushi and ramen. FOOD: Their menu and offerings are nearly identical to those of Mikoto, but they undercut their price by $6 (I believe Mikoto's lunch is $26, from what I recall). If you're conflicted about which restaurant to choose, I would say it varies depending on what you are craving more. Focused on sushi? J&J wins by a moderate margin. Their sushi doesn't have a strong rice vinegar taste, and while their menu is slightly smaller, the quality of the fish makes them a clear winner. Focused on ramen? Mikoto wins by a small margin. Mikoto seems to be more centered around ramen, with their sushi quality coming in second. While J&J's ramen (we got the P5, the closest competitor to Mikoto's black garlic ramen) was good, it was missing a slightly richer, more robust broth like the one Mikoto had. When compared against a known competitor - Sushi Masa - I would say that Sushi Masa offers better sushi. However, don't let that deter you. What J&J may lack in comparison, it makes up for in its competitive price, value, and service. Additionally, they offer AYCE ramen, something unique to only 2 restaurants I am aware of in the Houston area. While they're still rather new and only time will tell how they progress from here, they are certainly off to a great start. Service: Our waitress was solid, albeit, they weren't very busy when we had came in. However, she was very helpful in ensuring that we were paced well on the delivery time of our food. This was a wonderful experience from start to finish! It's was so good I ended up coming back the next day with my husband. The first day I had the grilled beef rice bowl and it was soooooooo good! It is hard to find a great restaurant especially these days with restaurants skimping on portions and ingredients. I was completely shocked with the quality of food for the price. This place is a hidden gem in Katy. I have been there several times times now and every meal has been amazingly good. From Sushi to Ramen to Chinese. The sushi is definitely a higher grade of fish. I have been to this restaurant since it opened and it was amazing. The food was delicious and all of the seafood tasted so fresh. I left a review giving it 5 stars and returned almost every week, but the quality has gone down since the original two individuals (a female and a male) left. I have given the restaurant several opportunities but today was the last! I ordered a Kanisu Roll and the lady taking my order did not know what I was asking for. After correcting my pronunciation, she proceeded to tell the chef to make the roll. I also ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer. She then advised me that the Kanisu Roll was not made with rice and was made with cucumbers. I told her that I was aware and that is what I wanted. As my order was a to-go order, I opened the sealed package at home and found that my Kanisu Roll was extremely small and made with only cucumber and a piece of imitation crab. This was not what was described in the menu and what I have been given in the past so I returned and asked for a refund. I was then asked if I had ordered the wrong item and I told them that I had not as I pointed it out to her on the menu when she took my order, she repeated it to the chef so that he could begin making it, and it was on the receipt. She then asked me what was in the Kanisu Roll and I pointed out the ingredients on the menu. Finally, she told the chef what he should have added to the roll as if he was not aware of the ingredients in a Kanisu Roll. I took a look at the shrimp when she opened the container but decided that it was not worth me being disappointed if I had opted to keep the shrimp. I got my refund and I will not return! You decide for yourself but to go from outstanding to mediocre with no price adjustment is not something I am willing to pay for. read more

We were the last sit down customers for the night and talked to one of the owners for almost two hours! She is amazing and has so much knowledge of food and flavors! Pork buns: really flavorful and soft. A lot of times I get buns else where and the bun itself is too hard and the pork too porky (Iykyk). BUT THIS BUN AMAZING this was the appetizer, so I knew the rest of the food would be amazing! Huge rolls 2 for $6 Sushi: My go to is always going to be a smoked Philadelphia Roll and this hit the spot. It was huge and fresh! Ramen: I will forever compare all ramens to this one. It taste homemade and fresh and it's full of flavor. The chicken had flavor and so did the egg and that's hard to do! I will come back for this ramen. All in all 10/10! I love sushi and I've been to many sushi restaurants across the U.S., but J & J has the biggest sushi rolls I've ever had! They were huge, fresh and delicious! Their chicken and pork miso ramen dishes were also fantastic. Their crab Rangoon are actually jalapeños halved and filled with the crab and cream cheese mix and then tempura fried and they were also delicious!
