I'm so sad. This was our FAVORITE sushi restaurant. Jaden (our regular server) was always amazing. Have no idea what has happened behind the scenes, but our last two experiences have not been good. We came back thinking maybe the last time was an anomaly and it was worse. To be fair, the food is still good. What's gone downhill is the service. When we first started coming, everyone's order came on their own plate so there was no mixing up rolls. They came quickly and second rounds were also ordered and fulfilled quickly. Now, they bring them out in waves with all the orders mixed up. If more than one person orders sashimi - it's all on one plate. It's just a very challenging situation when folks are at opposite ends of the table. And they slow roll (no pun intended) any order after your first. Tonight, our server, while sweet, took half our order then wandered off for help with the tablet. She then went to two other tables to take their orders before returning to ours. Which completely messed up the timing of the orders coming out. She failed to refill our drinks until we asked her twice. Sadly, we will not be returning and it is 100% because something has happened with management / back of bar. Not because the food is bad. read more

My husband, sister and I stopped in for lunch today. We were seated promptly and our server took or order. This was not our first time at Sushi 9 on Mason Rd in Katy. I had my birthday lunch there a few weeks ago and everything was excellent! I don't know what happened today. We had to repeatedly ask for the dishes we ordered. I even had to get up to find our server. We were there for an hour before the first item we ordered (from the kitchen) arrived at our table! It took so long we had to get it to go. We waited so long to get our shumai that I didn't have time to order my favorite udon. What we did get (2 sushi bar rolls) in a timely manner was excellent (Crazy roll). When my sister finally got her Philly roll she said it was good. My husband got his 2 pieces of kani sushi about 45 minutes in. The restaurant was not crazy busy so the only thing I can figure happened was that the kitchen lost our order. People that came in after us were served long before us (sushi and kitchen orders). Our server told us she gave us a discount ($5) for the issues. (They're having a $5 off special right now for everyone so no real compensation for the bad experience...) With our current financial situation, we are limiting our restaurant meals and to pay $19.99 per person for the three of us was supposed to be a treat. Sadly, it was not. We are severely regretting our decision to stop in for lunch at Sushi 9 today. read more

Great spot to take visitors or a group of foodies! The best thing is the sit down buffet style. You still get a dine in experience but plenty of options to try and choose from. No need to try and convince others on the fried rice or apps you want because they all come in small portions so you can each get what you want. So many rolls to choose from even if you stick to the lunch menu. DONT SKIP THE SALMON AND BEEF TERIYAKI or shrimp dumplings. read more

Came here on a Wednesday for lunch and was seated immediately. It was $44 for 2 of us which is pretty good for all you can eat. We ordered a variety of nigiri, 2 rolls, miso soup, and a few kinds of tempura. I also loved the sushi pizza. I'd recommend the nigiri since it's less filling than a whole roll. Everything was delicious! Pretty good fish quality for all u can eat. We finished with some matcha ice cream. Service was great and food didn't take too long to come out. Called the restaurant ahead of time, they informed me the Lunch AYCE(All you can eat) was $24.99. After arriving @1pm and being sat they handed me the menu and it appeared different so I asked is this the all you can eat menu? She said yes and I was excited because they had a bunch of different items which appeared to be way more than what they used to offer. The wait time was horrible, 34 minutes after ordering I was still waiting for my first order of sashimi. My lunch arrived very slow but was good, not great but good. When the check arrived it was $36.99, i informed them that I had called and they had informed me the AYCE menu was $24.99. She informed me that I had order sashimi which is only a dinner item. I told her this is the menu they gave me. I asked for the manager and she informed me she was the manager. I explained the situation again, she offered to give me a 10% discount. I let her know that was bad business to charge $12 more when they had clearly given me the wrong menu. While she left she attended to a different table and informed them that dinner started at 3pm? As she passed I asked her about her informing the other table that dinner started at 3pm? She said she had not when I just heard her two tables away. The food at Sushi 9 is great. Granted, this is coming from someone who has never eaten very high end sushi. However, the effort put into the dishes at sushi 9 is great. The sushi rolls or pieces never look messy or sloppy, they look like they were actually made carefully. The servers are very attentive and kind, nothing bad to say and they are quick to service you. The environment is a little more quiet than I'm used to at sushi restaurants, but that is a good thing as it's enjoyable to dine in a place like this with friends and be able to hear each other. I convinced my friend to try a new place for sushi, other than our usual spot in Katy. Stopped in around 5PM on a Friday night, and they were just starting to get a bit of a dinner crowd. The concept is nice and easy. Pay $29.99/per person ($17.99 weekday lunch, $22.99 weekend lunch) and order whatever, and as much as you want, of any menu items. I loved the Flying Egg Salad (I ate two!). In addition to assorted maki/hand rolls, we ordered some tempura, edamame, miso soup, and the very tasty Shrimp Stir-Fry Udon Noodles. The service was friendly. And the product items quickly while clearing empty plates. Definitely a nice spot. This isn't high-end like Sushi Ra, but it's a great alternative to Kura Sushi or Sushi Sakura -- with many more options. We didn't have room for ice cream though! My friend and I said the next time we come back we should bring a few more people because it would be fun to share some other dishes. read more

The lunch price is super affordable, and for only sixteen dollars, the quality is better than the one you're paying for. The miso soup was pretty bad, the seaweed salad was soupy and overly sweet, the wasabi was fake, the ginger was old and unrefrigerated, the tempura was premade so it was soggy and stale. Most importantly though, the rice was overseasoned (too much vinegar and sugar). Its a shame, because the fish was actually good quality. This place could be great, but they need a new chef. Whenever I go to an AYCE sushi place, I also love to try their non-sushi items. It did not disappoint! Make sure to try out their Salmon Teriyaki and their Chicken/pork Cutlets (like a katsu). *This is a review of a pre-COVID visit that I thought I'd share to support businesses I enjoyed eating at before the pandemic! Sushi 9 is an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant that we visited on a Saturday night. I'd recommend if you're looking more to eat lots of the 'standard' types of sushi/sashimi (vs. if you want to have a lot of variety in types/tastes of sushi). Food: General Pros: I liked that this AYCE sushi restaurant allowed you to order individual sashimi, sushi pieces and hand rolls instead of just huge rolls (so it's good if you want specific fish types by itself or just want a little to try). I also liked that you could add spicy mayo, eel sauce, or whatever other sauce that you wanted. General Cons: There wasn't as much variety in the pre-made roll options; most of them were just different combinations of salmon, crab meat, avocado, some eel, and a few other things. This led to the taste of most of the rolls being pretty similar throughout. There was also only one soft shell crab option. What we tried: - Seaweed salad and octopus/eel salad: both good! - Soft shell crab roll: better w/ spicy mayo, mostly had vegetables and not much crab - Viking roll and another roll with snow crab: just ok - Eel sushi: yummy! Didn't have lots of bones like some other places do - Salmon sashimi: yummy! Tasted fresh - Green tea and red bean ice cream: a bit icey but still good Service: The waitresses were pretty fast and nice about offering suggestions! I had a friend raving about an all you can eat sushi place. So I was intrigued. By nature I am a fatty. I love buffets and I love AYCE. I'm truly an American. So when it comes to Sushi, generally buffets and AYCE do not equate something you want to do. Why? the quality tends to drop off. This place the sashimi options were limited and what really intrigued me were the numerous roll options. And I think this is the best bang for your buck. If you're out ordering rolls elsewhere you're looking at about 10-15 per roll and here you are paying about $25 for AYCE. So if you get about 2-3 rolls you are above break even. The only complaint I had is even though there was a wide variety of options, afterawhile they all start tasting the same. We had about 5 different ones, and I honestly could not tell any of them apart. That is not to say all of them weren't tasty though. We did also do some of the hot plates, the udon was ok, the broth was very bland, the best thing was probably the beef terriyaki, the short ribs were decent but came out barely warm. My wife got the salmon hamachi sp? that was pretty good also. Overall, there is a lot of food here for a fair price, is it something I would make the drive out to Katy for again? probably not, but if you live in the area, I could see this as rotation piece to dinner options. read more

I had came in with a friend to grab lunch everything was great, our waitress was very kind and friendly and attentive. I love to see that in service. The Food was good except for (Anything Tempura) it just had a watered down seafood taste like the batter was made with tap water That Day- usually it's okay. Our server had taken the sweet potato tempura away, and notified the kitchen about it. I could over hear the FOH employees confused on how I didn't eat the sweet potato tempura but the shrimp tempura I ate. I had given the shrimp tempura the benefit of the doubt of it tasting off but when vegetables taste like seafood something is not right. I finished my meal with some green tea ice cream, something I was looking forward too, the matcha flavor was non-existent, the taste was off- again it's usually good. I would've preferred not to eat it but I had gotten Ayce and it was mildly edible. (When it came to our bill our total was $32.45 they had a %10 off lunch special that was listed on their website that wasn't applied to our bill, I had left $33 dollars on top of the check and brought it to our server's attention about it. She had came back but with our new total to $30.45 and only $30 dollars on the check I stated I had put $33 dollars on the check but Further denied, and I had only put $30 dollars. which left me in shock She seemed content with the $30 dollars and not cared to ask for the remaining balance of the check as if I had truly left $33 dollar's) The management seems sketchy here and I would be concerned about the honesty of the place and payment- I do want to like the place but my new experience was very off putting It was sad to have a great start and such a discontented ending to my lunch. read more

Didn't expect much, I mainly came here because of the fresh fish reviews, but it didn't meet my own personal expectations. For $25 per person and not including drink, I expected a bit more. Surprisingly, they do have a lot of customers so maybe it's just me. My first disappointment is that the philadephia roll was not made with smoked salmon which is usually the norm. I've never had it anywhere where smoked salmon is not made with the philadelphia roll. The sushi nigrii came with fish that I felt wasn't fresh, fresh. All the other things we ordered also tasted ok (miso soup, edamame, chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki) or had some shortcomings (wings which took forever to come, chicken nuggets which were bland, fries that were short) but definitely not wow. Vegetable tempuras was kind of flat tasting to me. I think the only thing I liked was the stir fried ramen with shrimp and the ice cream. Another thing I liked was that all the ramen and udon came in a smaller size so it gave an opportunity to taste everything.
