Unfortunately had a very poor experience with this company. Hired them for roof repairs at my place of business, which had a small leak. When the repairs were completed, I contacted them to make sure everything was fixed, as there was forecasted rain in the next few days. Their response was "Repairs went great. We did a lot of work on the roof and you should be set for these next rains." The rains started Friday and when I arrived at my business on Saturday morning there was very significant leaking and flooding. I immediately called and left a message and emailed photos of the issues. No one responded until Monday morning, and I understand they are closed on weekends, but for a business that is likely to have emergency situations during the rain, feel that they should at least check messages in these circumstances. They said they'd send someone to meet me at 8:45am on Monday morning to inspect the damage and it's now 9:30am and no one has showed up. We have been in need for a new roof for some time; when we first moved into our home the roof was already outdated and was recommended for replacement. We found out about J&J Roofing through word of mouth (Nextdoor likely) and reached out to them along with about 3 other businesses. Matt from J&J Roofing came to take a look at our roof to give his opinion and estimate. He was highly rated by other clients, and gave his honest opinion - we did not feel the "salesman" vibe that some others did give us, and felt like we were in good hands, plus his estimate was the best priced out of all of the companies we reached out to. We liked that Matt wasn't pushy and were happy to move forward with replacing our roof with him and his team. We were also interested in getting solar and Matt was happy to give us a reference for solar as well, working with the solar company directly while keeping us in the loop as needed. After choosing our choice of shingles colors, we were off and scheduled a day for replacement a couple weeks in advance, which gave us plenty of time to notify our neighbors of pending construction on our place. Communication was smooth and consistent via email, contracts were promptly signed, and Matt and his team were also very timely as promised. They answered our questions well and were respectful of our property as well. The job took a little over one day and we found our walkway clean-swept after the work was done. The roof looks great, and the solar team seems to have no trouble installing the panels on top of the work that J&J did. No thunderstorms or downpours yet but we feel great having a new roof now! After meeting with three roofing contractors last September, I finally chose J and J Roofing to help me with my whole house roof replacement job. I was very impressed with Matt. He was friendly, professional, and honest, went out of his way to explain the details, and wrote the best contract and quote details I have ever seen. Since I am in an ancient house, even the original roof didn't even have plywood. When I walked up to the attic, I saw the sky directly from the various lofts. Our municipality has stringent rules about roofing materials and colors, and due to the global supply chain shortage last year, the shingles I ordered took six months to arrive. There was a lot of rain in Los Angeles last year, and J and J even made temporary repairs for free to reduce the risk of rainwater infiltration in the house when it came. In May of this year, Matt told me that our roof had arrived, and we were ready to start our project. Do not use this company. I reached out to them last summer to have a couple of small repairs done to our roof (which was newly built in 2016). The inspector was good and the email interactions with Matt were good-he was friendly, helpful and seemed knowledgeable. That's pretty much where the good ended. Once the contract was signed, the day of, two men showed up. They never rang the doorbell to even let me know they were here. They just went through our gates to the backyard and started doing the work. Except they were doing it wrong. The diverter we discussed was installed in the wrong place! There was a language barrier so I tried to call the office and no one was available to help. The flat roof they also suggested we re-do was done extremely sloppily-it looked awful! After trying for days to get in touch with someone I was connected to Justin. He came out and patched up the shingle area that was now unsightly due to the diverter being placed incorrectly there. I paid them the $2400 for sloppy work. Now the really bad part. I noticed after some very short and light rain (not the heavy rain we received in December), the shingles surrounding the other diverter they installed were all wet. Seemed strange and it was worrisome! Sure enough there was either 1) no need for the diverter 2) it was placed incorrectly. The water is pooling beneath and around the shingles and causing who knows what kind of damage below it and to what extent! I have sent a handful of emails explaining the situation and included the attached photos to the office, Justin and Matt (the owner) and have also left a few voicemails. Not ONE has been returned. They do not care. They recommended work that didn't need to be done, furthermore they CAUSED damage that I now have to pay another roofer to correct, they have taken zero responsibility, they haven't bothered to return one email or phone call. I am absolutely disappointed and appalled at the LOUSY customer service and work of this company. They should be held accountable. I highly recommend not using them because they do not honor their work and they don't care one bit about their customers. AWFUL!! read more

On 2/21/23 we were given the following information: "Also, if you're planning on getting solar you want to do the associated roofing at the same time to avail yourself of the federal rebate (which is either 20 or 30%) toward the cost of your roofing costs. If you do the back half of the roof now you will lose a lot of $ in federal rebate...." We went ahead with the project $29K. After the fact (and I wish I would have checked with the accountant first) we were told that the roofing portion of a solar project is not eligible for a tax credit. When I asked for a refund, this is what I was given...... "In any case, we did not guarantee you would get a rebate from the IRS and the suggestion that I or anyone could guarantee the IRS would do something doesn't follow. Nobody can guarantee the IRS will do anything and if you're contracting with a state licensed contractor any guarantees that you believe you would have received would be contained in the contract that you signed. You contacted us in June of 2023 and you asked us for a reroof proposal, and said you would be getting solar panels installed at some point in the future. Since you were going to get the roofing and solar done regardless I don't see what injury you can claim even if you were misinformed. Bottom line, nobody tried to trick you and, I don't see what the trick would be in the first place since no one benefited." We were given mis-information....lost out on almost $10K - I'm not sure why the roofing company is giving mis-information about tax credits. This is misleading and very unethical. We trusted what we were told and we should not have done that. Then, when I asked to be refunded or error corrected...the response was to admit zero accountability - why did you send us an email telling us we should take advantage now to get the tax rebate.... read more

I spoke with Matt, who answered all the many questions I had regarding the flat roof. Matt also provided me with information about the different roofing materials that would work best for a flat roof. The estimator came by the property, inspected the roof and answered additional questions. Matt emailed me the quote and it was reasonable for the work. Once the roofing material arrived, we set a date and time to commence the job. Joe and his crew did an awesome job. They arrived as scheduled every day, worked well together, were detailed, efficient and professional. They also kept their working materials neatly stored (with plastic underneath) on the property preventing damage to the area. Joe kept me informed about the roof progress throughout the whole job. Joe and his crew were great to work with. Approximately one month after the job was completed, a quality control manager came by the property to inspect the work. There were a few minor items he wanted to improve on (e.g., an overflow, etc.). I spoke with Justin, who scheduled a day and time quickly and was very helpful. They took ownership for the problem, came out and did a terrific job - sealing all of my skylights (on a very steep roof). I Yelped a few roofing companies for my house in Los Feliz and ended up hiring J&J because of their employee and estimator Jush. He came out and gave me the clearest estimate of what needed to be done. He gave me a break down and also priced (gave me an estimate) of the service via email. The email listed the work, the contract, the pricing and all the information needed for me, the consumer. After Mike (the owner's son) and Jush set up the dates for the guys to come out, the roofers took 2 days to finish the work on my roof. Payment was never rushed and I was able to pay J&J a couple of days later for the work. The roofers came out, did work (when it was very hot) and cleaned up after themselves. Now we wait for the next rain storm in LA to see if the roof holds up. There's a nice warranty to the roof as well. Give J&J a call for a free, no frills estimate. The do good work! read more

I have been using J&J Roofing for a few years. I was first contacted them to do semi annual maintenance on my strip mall. I was impressed by the amount of detail they provided about what they would be doing. I also bid it to more than one roofer and they were the more reasonable cost wise. They work was excellent. This year I had a couple of leaks. They were very busy with the recent rains.
