It is rare to find a moving company who you can trust, and know they will do a good job. My husband wanted to rehire them for our most recent move, since they had done such a good job for our first move a few years back. Aside from their sheer skill in moving services, they are a family-run business, and seem like genuinely good people. The initial inspector was great. He was very friendly and there the day of the move. The crew that…read morearrived the day to pack us out was really friendly and they took a two day job and turned it into one. All of the items that 3/4 crew members packed were packed efficiently and with proper padding and paper. The one gentleman that worked upstairs was a complete disaster. Because of him, all stars have been docked. Our HHG that arrived on our receiving end that was packed by the upstairs packer was a mess. He didn't use paper in any of the boxes and literally dumped our goods into the cardboard. Unfortunately, the two rooms he spent the majority of the time on were my daughters room and my room. Almost every single item of our daughters was damaged in some way. Porcelain and ceramic packed with heavy objects, nothing protecting them. Books not kept with books, shoved between toys which resulted in torn pages. He packed bedding which we had asked him not to pack, leaving my daughter without bedding for our move. We later found that he packed fragile items inside the bedding, wrapped up, so when the bedding was unrolled items were broken. The worst part is what is missing. While furniture and items were damaged, this gentleman stole from our daughter. Conveniently, all piggy banks without money in them arrived. The one piggy bank that had her saved money in it (I didn't think to grab from her top shelf in the process of moving my items) was stolen. He took the time to check if there was money in the piggy bank and then stole it. Emails to the company have gone unanswered. It's too convenient to have the one item missing be something with money in it. Every box has been unpacked and every piece of paper has been looked through. We were so happy to have had such a great packing crew and so sorely upset to see what was received on this end. And worse, what wasn't received. The way they've handled the response of a stolen item has been awful as well. This was a military move so we will be in the claims process.

That's why I've got to give Wiley Transfer high marks for loading our U-Pack trailer at the start of our move from the Monterey Peninsula to Western North Carolina. On the phone, Denise the boss was sympathetic and helpful, like a mama bear protecting us from the evils of U-Pack. We packed our own boxes (highly recommended), but the crew did a fast, excellent, professional job of packing our furniture and the boxes into the trailer. "High and tight" was their mantra. And virtually everything arrived at the other end undamaged. Despite the chaos of packing day, nothing shoddy was done, nothing went missing. I would give Wiley five stars for a perfect job if it weren't for the cost, which was about $800 or about 40% higher than the quoted hourly rate at the correctly estimated number of hours. They charged for their lunch break. They sent an extra crewman, claiming his extra cost was balanced by less time. I would believe that with three men instead of two, but with four men in our small house, I noticed that there often seemed to be one man just standing around. Also, they provided us with a bunch of moving blankets, and that rightly increased the cost, but not $800 worth. Bottom line, getting our stuff moved without damage was more important than having the bill somewhat padded. Compared to what could happen out there in the wild west, I'd recommend Wiley Transfer.

UPS charges more because they charge around $1.50/pound and a banker's box is around 35 pounds, which could then run someone around $54 a box. Monterey Transfer only charges around $10 a banker's box. What a difference. Also for a very small extra fee, they'll let you watch the papers being shred on their very large industrial shredding machine on site. That alone is worth going with them. On top of all of this, their office staff was very professional on the phone and very friendly and kind in person. The building and site was clean and organized. Highly recommended and I would use them exclusively in the future.

Each time putting me on a short waiting list making the times between the changes were acceptable. Right now Pacific Grove High School Alumni Association has a unit there. We purposely picked PG Storage because the location was convenient and it was inside with controlled temperatures. We have year books and other important papers that go back to 1888 when the high school was built. The hours to go are 7 days a week. It is NOT 24 hours but we liked that too. I was selling my house and needed to reduce the clutter so I rented a storage unit at PG Self…read moreStorage. They were always kind, helpful, and keep the place in pristine clean condition. Everything went extremely well during my time there...until I sold my house and I wanted to pick up my stored possessions. They told me that I was responsible for paying each month in advance and if I vacated the unit before the end of the month they would try and re-rent it and give me back the pro rated amount, so I signed a document stating that. Then there was a wrinkle in the house sale so I kept the unit for another month, went back and vacated the unity and signed another form. What they did NOT tell me was that they have 2 forms: one gives you money back if you vacate early and they re-rent it, and another form that gives you no money back even if they do re-rent it. The second time they gave me the new no money back form without mentioning that was the case. So after being very happy for nearly a year...I left mad and totally disappointed with PG Self Storage.

Went to great lengths and expense coordinating pickup with another party and Tavares. As the pickup/drop off date got closer I hadn't heard anything from Tavares. I began to send messages through yelp, via text, then finally called leaving multiple voicemails. I have not received a response after 3 days contacting them. On my first call, the phone rang like normal. After that every time I called it went straight to voicemail, I believe they blocked my number. If you changed your mind or something came up and you can no longer do a job, just let your customer know. Don't leave them in the dark and block their number.

There were a few significant challenges on the move-in side to my 2nd story rental unit. Two 90" sofas were innovatively hoisted from the truck, up and over my balcony, through french doors, and into the living room...done and done. My dining room table includes two acrylic pedestals and a very heavy (and breakable) glass top. Crated and uncrated carefully, the crew took extra time and care to place the rug and assembled table precisely centered under the existing chandalier. As it would be difficult for me to make adjustments later, they far exceeded my expectation on this important (to me) task. I appreciated that my beds were set up, including bedding, all clothes in wardrobes were hung in the closets, and then those large boxes taken away. I was happy (and relieved) that my final cost came in slightly under estimate. I sensed that Leo and the team were carefully working on my behalf to reach this goal.
