We just left South Dakota to move to another state. For the three years we lived in Tea, SD, J & M Auto was our mechanic. I am 70 years old and have not had a better mechanic and mechanic experience. They are honest. How rare is that? They are reasonably priced and always check with you before they fix anything. If you have questions, they explain everything. Long story short: shop around, deceptive, expensive. Just moved here & I went in last month for an oil change+spark plugs and asked for a timing belt/water pump quote + recommendations for service. I asked if they planned to look at my timing belt to confirm if it was cracked or I could delay the change, they said they visualized it (lies) & they assured me it needed to be changed because it was cracked (not cracked at removal @ different shop). Only fluids systems were recommended for flushing/change. No sooner than a month later, I went to another shop for a leaking axel and they found my brakes were metal on metal... which was missed and usually included in an "inspection." read more

No stars-was told several things were checked on my car, some of which were simple fluid levels. It absolutely was NOT done-I checked them myself after my dashboard lights came right back on a few miles down the road. I added my own fluids that were needed. If I was flat out lied to about this simple thing, why would I believe anything was done? Well, they did collect the money. Will never recommend. 2 stars since they picked up my car. 2 Stars because they attempted to sell me $2,100+ in repairs for my 2004 Honda. The problem was a dust/brake plate came loose and was banging on my CV axle. They decided I had to replace the entire strut system and told me they couldn't get to the brake plate without replacing the entire structure. I told them I would just buy a new car. My family knows someone who is a mechanic, which I took there and repaired it for $302. Terrible upselling I will not be recommending their services. read more

I would of loved to give a 5 star review as they worked with me financially but horrible experience. Brought my car there twice for transmission work. They could not get the job done! I am on my 3rd check engine light with the same issue. Very disappointed in their work. I will not be going back and would not recommend this auto shop to anyone. read more

Absolutely fantastic work. I love feeling comfortable with my repair shop, instead of the usual distrustful attitude I've had to adopt moving from place to place and having other places attempt to scam us since we're not from the area. For example, our first experience with Sioux Falls auto repair was another shop telling us we needed new brakes for a squealing sound coming from the wheel well after it sat in their shop for several hours-didn't sound right so we found J&M and they quickly found a twisted backing plate behind the wheel-something the other repair shop should've seen, and sent us out the door sans squeal and without an unnecessary brake job. Every repair since has been done right, and done well. They've been honest and knowledgable every time, and quick to get us in and out, so we're back on the road with minimal disruption to our lives. Look no further-from someone who's seen a lot of different mechanics and seen a lot of "techniques," these guys are the real deal. read more
