The room was sizable and clean. We loved the outdoor areas set up to sit and relax with a view of the marina. We walked down the dock and spent a few minutes speaking to a friendly fisherman. We enjoy both Southold and Greenport and found this location perfect for both. Just a few minutes drive to downtown Greenport, but with vineyards around the corner. Add two restaurants in walking distance, and it was perfect for our getaway. Really only two drawbacks for me. First, the walls are THIN. We came in low season where there was almost no one there, but I imagine this could be a problem. We could clearly hear our downstairs neighbor snoring as well as other, ahem, night time activities. Second, the bed seems comfortable to sit on but I found that I kept getting soreness in my hips. The pillows were a bit flat.

It has a view of of the water which is really nice and it has cute little patio area for the guest to use. There is a pool but you have to walk over to the next lot to get to it. The place is pretty basic with no frills but has everything you would need. The one thing that was a little upsetting was when the kids were running around barefoot in our room, their little feet became covered in dirt. While the rooms looked spotless, it seems the carpets need a good cleaning.

The pool area and jacuzzi with deck are just beautiful. The best part of our stay was meeting Eva, the house manager. She was so kind and welcoming. She provided everything we needed and made sure the place was spotless upon our arrival. She provided many helpful tips and shared interesting facts and history about the island. In the midst of farmland, vineyards, and tiny port towns, there are no Hiltons or Holiday inns to…read morebe seen. Everything around here is small, personable and locally run -- adding to the charm of being out on the east end. Your options are a smattering of bank breaking bed and breakfasts, hard to acquire airbnb rentals, cottages by the golf course and a motel with one of the best views you've ever seen. The blue inn falls somewhere in the middle of those choices. Our room reminded me of a cozy ski lodge rental. Small kitchenette, exposed wood beams and a pleasing country decor. Rates were extremely reasonable (about $150 midweek off season). Everything was very clean and they even left us a surprisingly nice toiletry package with toothpastes, floss, makeup wipes, Q-tips etc. It's the little things like this, which I wasn't really expecting that really added a nice touch. Our stay was pleasant, however the noise level deserves a mention. There were folks staying on both sides of the room and at night I could hear bits of conversations about who knows what and both of their TVs blaring incoherently. Thankfully our neighbors weren't night owls or I would have not gotten any sleep. As for sleeping - the king size bed was cozy and mushy. I liked it but its probably to soft for most. Unfortunately, the restaurant and pool were not open but I wouldn't have minded checking both out had I been here during the summer!

The grounds and buildings are well-maintained. We had a second-floor room with steep stairs; no elevator. Breakfast is all carbs, only on weekends when we were there in mid- May; the restaurant was otherwise closed. The room has a small table with two kitchen chairs. There is no desk or comfy chair. The bathroom sink has no space to put anything by it. In our room, the toilet valve had to be manually reseated after every flush, and they couldn't fix it for the four days we were there. We might have changed rooms, but that seemed like a bigger pain.

Our most recent visit was so memorable that I had to write a review and tell my fellow yelpers about this little gem. The Beaver Dam Creek House is not your typical snooty tooty bed and breakfast. Upon entering the door you are greeted by Summer, the friendly Golden Retreiver and official welcoming committee. She happily wags her tail and is thrilled to have new guests come and stay at the house. Jeanne, the owner is very friendly, mellow and full of great information about nearby restaurants, the best shopping, and where to go for great bargains. The home is tastefully beach themed and filled with all sorts of antique touches. Each room is unique and has a different feel. There are beautiful mirrors, refurbished and antique furniture, seashells, old wood paneling, gorgeous wall paper and crown molding. The home is also filled with all of the modern necessities like TV, cable, internet, dvd's, books, boardgames, magazines, and a jacuzzi. Everything is very clean and you get fresh sheets and towels on a regular basis. Our family has quite a few food allergies and Jeanne was extremely understanding and accommodating; Each morning we awoke to asparagus quiche, scrambled eggs, sausage, hot coffee with dairy and non-dairy creamer, orange juice, bagels with cream cheese and fresh fruit. She also kept fresh fruits, vegetables, pita chips and hummus for us, knowing that we were California health nuts. I've stayed at bed and breakfasts before but I've never experienced the kindness, hospitality and sense of "home" that Jeanne creates at Beaver Dam Creek House. Our family absolutely loved our stay and we plan to go back every other year to celebrate Thanksgiving at our favorite spot. It's perfect for laid back families like ours who enjoy the freedom of a less structured bed and breakfast with a home away from home feel.

So even though I was far from my home waters in California I was able to get on the water and see ducks and a great blue heron...very nice perk. The owners built their house as a B&B, so everything was new, yet personal. Each suite has it's own jacuzzi tub and fireplace, and feels private like a hotel, yet warm and inviting like a B&B should be. The Blue Iris is well kept and cared for, and their grounds ads are a nice walking distance to Bedells. The location also allows for an easy night out on the town, or to stay in and enjoy the rocking adirondack chairs around the beautiful fire pit. Lorry's style was top notch - everything was designed and picked out for very specific reasons. Our room was american themed. But The Blue Iris truly shined at breakfast time! We were welcomed with lemon squares, coffee and a raspberry yogurt served on gorgeous china. Goblets of water, and juice felt expensive and hearty. Lorry and Jerry joined our conversation, but were not overbearing. Didn't inject themselves into our time, but their opinions were a welcomed addition to our morning.

Blue Iris: A Serene & Enchanting Get Away…read more Lorry and her husband were wonderful hosts for my girlfriend and I. We came in from Manhattan searching for a quiet and relaxing get away and that's exactly what we got. Their house is absolutely beautiful and sits on a pristine piece of land, well-lit as you approach, and the gravel driveway reminiscent of an older long island but still very modern. Inside, the house is sublimely decorated with a classical piano selection playing in the background. The Rooms are upstairs, equipped with a fire place (turned on with the flick of a switch), a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom and a firm queen sized bed. Our room was charmingly decorated with rusted treasure chest keys hanging from the wall and a 1920's Country Wall Phone with a crank handle that actually turns. The rooms are as warm and inviting as they are comfortable and tranquil. The Blue Iris is truly an enchanting get away for anyone seeking to escape the stress and chaos of everyday life. Our host, Lorry, was absolutely delightful and as helpful as could be. As soon as we made our reservation with her, she recommended dinner/spa reservations (A Lure had the best peppercorn Tuna and the Blue Sage Spa had a very relaxing couples massage), and confirmed our reservation for us at A Lure when we arrived (as well as handing us a discount card to a majority of the wineries, restaurants, and spas in the area). Lorry was there for our every need and wasn't even phased when we accidentally broke her wine glasses (which she didn't charge us for)! Breakfast started with fruit cups, coffee, tea, corn bread, and finished with a egg bacon and vegetable souffle which was to die for. When we visited some of the wineries around town and we mentioned to the employees that we were staying at Lorry's they even made a note to tell us how wonderful her breakfasts are. While we visited in February, the Blue Iris is just a small 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk to the water/beach. I'd 100% recommend the Blue Iris to any and everyone and I look forward to staying there again!
