The first CS guy couldn't understand in three tries my question "Are you trained in this product?" He insisted that my question was if the product could be used for training. He gave me to another rep, who gave me to a third rep. Each of them insisted that they knew that my question has to do with using this product to train our cat. And not one of the three of them would let me speak until I started shouting. Understanding that this is not the place for me to deal with, I called the other small Wondercide retailer in my area (The Petcare Market in Lodi) and within 20 seconds the courteous and knowledgeable David answered all my questions and we're headed there to make a purchase. I'm really lucky that the third unhelpful Pet Supplies Plus rep hung up on me. Saved me from fainting from my blood pressure being pushed up so high trying to make myself be heard.

Our bond was truly special, and I will always be grateful that they brought her into my life. That said, I do have concerns about the health of the hedgehogs they sell. Hazelnut came home with rhinitis and severe diarrhea and needed antibiotics. I even asked if her completely liquid stool was normal (since I was such a newbie to hedgies and had no idea what was and wasn't normal) and was told "yes" by the store; which was very clearly not true... lol. Later in life, she developed a devastating neurological disease that eventually left her paralyzed and requiring around-the-clock care. I would do it all again for her without hesitation, but my experience truly taught me how important responsible breeding and lineage tracking are. Neurological diseases such as Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome have a suspected hereditary component. Because captive pet populations stem from limited bloodlines and can involve frequent inbreeding, a heritable predisposition remains a plausible explanation, especially since WHS has not been documented in wild African pygmy hedgehogs. For anyone considering a hedgehog, I would personally recommend going through a reputable breeder who can provide documented lineage, health records, and information showing the line is free of known neurological disease. These animals deserve to be bred responsibly, with their health and well-being coming before profit. No hedgehog should have to suffer because proper breeding practices and genetic health weren't prioritized.

Context: I got a Miniature American Shepherd from here that was severely underweight (2.8lbs) . I was told she was 10 weeks when I bought her, so I didn't think much of her small size at first till I checked her paperwork and it said 14 weeks. Looked it up, she was supposed to be 7lbs. Also, she had a kennel cough and parasites! The only half decent thing is that they give you 1 free Vet visit within first 2 weeks, so I got medication for those. For those who care: she's 18 weeks, 6lbs now, still less than the 9-10 she's supposed to be, but much better!
