Spend an evening with family here one Sunday. Classy, well run restaurant. Staff professional and caring. Ambience pleasant. This is a good place to bring your date to impress her or him. It is suitable for groups or family gatherings. Family run business and it shows. They care for the customer and the quality of their product. Will return

Love J Baldwin. Crab cakes are divine and steaks always cooked to perfection with great flavor. Decently priced for a nice dinner.

One of my favorite restaurants! Fabulous food, beautiful ambience, and delicious cocktails, their martinis are even served in an ice glass- genius! I just tried the barramundi and it was phenomenal, I'm definitely ordering that again! Their Sleigh Bells pop-up in the bar area features a special drink menu and is a-must-stop during the holiday season! They also have a great happy hour from 3-6p on Mondays and Fridays throughout the whole restaurant, not just the bar area! I also love that they are family oriented and give children a dough ball to play with and then they bake it and serve it with cinnamon sugar for their dessert. Wonderful place and owners!

Had a nice meal at jbaldwins. Service was slow on a Friday evening. We were there for 3 hours for 2 courses, but it allowed us to catch up and enjoy the live music in the bar area. I loved the appetizer and my entree was very good. Our server was very nice and attentive.

We had a gift card and came here for dinner. The restaurant is perfect for a date night. For me, I wouldn't bring my kids here, but it was perfect for just my wife and me. I had the short ribs and they were unbelievably tender. I literally was able to "cut" it with a spoon. So, so good!

Came here as a party of 6 at 6:30 on a Wednesday, which is $20 off bottles of wine. We booked a reservation, but it turned out to be unneeded as there were many open tables when we arrived. Our waitress was very attentive, even in filling up our tiny water glasses every few minutes - I recommend asking to have a pitcher brought and left on the table. Food: The meatball appetizer was very yummy. The warm brie was pretty good with extremely crunchy toasts; fun but I wouldn't order again. Those that ordered the salmon and Barramundi fish were pleased with their meal. As was the person who got the lamb chop. My appetizer crab cakes as an entre were the perfect size after the other apps. I should have gotten the horseradish sauce on the side, but they were tasty with the slaw. The Detroit style pizza came out as a flat pizza, which upset the teen, and he didn't want to wait for it to be remade. The beef Spiedini special was very underdone and had to be sent back. While he waited, my partner received a free Reuben soup special. This was the star of the night! Very tasty and creative. The second Spiedini plate was better with the middle still rather rare. He could only have a few bites after filling up on soup and trying other dishes. It should make solid leftovers. It was my birthday and they brought out yummy complimentary cake with ganache and a candle at the end. Side note: The bar area is super cute! It would be fun to come here with a few friends and split a discount bottle on a Wednesday if we lived in the area. I'd come back for the Reuben soup.

Food is always delicious and reasonably priced. Service is always impeccable. Ambiance of hit or miss. Sometimes it's so loud I just can't stand it in there. But thankfully they now have outdoor seating, and if it's not too hot or cold outside, the seating is acceptable.

My mother wanted to check out this spot. We have been to other locations out of state. The roast duck looks decent here. Ordered their fried calamari, warm Brie, truffle fries, blackened sword fish, mousaaka, goat beet salad, creme brûlée, strawberry tiramisu. $201.40 The mousaka was good, lots of shredded lamb meat in it. The beet goat cheese was a good size and was good. The sword wish was nicely cooked, more tender than expected, but too fishy tasting for me, but my husband enjoyed it. The roasted duck was good, the orange sauce wasn't my thing, it was way too sweet for me. The calamari is good, light breading and nice and tender too, not too rubbery. I can see why it's so popular. The truffle fries were good as well. The warmed Brie wasn't bad, the bread was simple white sliced toast, was definitely expecting something better than that. The side salad and the Caesar was okay. The creme brûlée is lovely, the cream is so light and delightful. The strawberry tiramisu was okay, different, not my favorite. The service was really good. John took really good care of us.

I get two bottle of wine per month and two free tastings, which equals two full glasses of wine. On top of that there are several added perks. As a result, we come here frequently. I refuse to miss out on my wine tastings. I'm an avid brunch lover so all you have to do is mention brunch and my whole body is happy. Haha. This weekend we enjoyed brunch here and as usual, we split it. They always do a really nice job with the presentation when they split our food. So we both got equal amounts of steak, scrambled eggs and delicious potatoes. We also opted for the pretzel bread because hey! Why not? We finished off a bottle of wine and our brunch was the perfect portion size to fill us up without becoming gluttonous. It is always hard for me not to go crazy in their cute gift shop. The service is always absolutely incredible as everyone knows there. I was going to say something like, I'll be back next month, but I still have my two free tastings. So I'll be back later this month! Whoop whoop!

It feels like the kind of place that has something for everybody--drinks, food, darts, a little arcade area, and that friendly local-bar vibe where you could easily hang out for a few hours. I only stopped in on a Tuesday to use the ATM, so I haven't had a chance to try the food or drinks yet, but just based on the atmosphere, I'm actually excited to come back and give the place a proper visit. My only complaint was the smell. There was definitely an odd sewage/urine-type smell in parts of the place, and after seeing other reviews mention it, I understand what people are talking about. It wasn't enough to make me dislike the place, but it was noticeable. Without that issue, just based on my first impression, I probably would have given it five stars instead of four. Overall, really cool neighborhood-bar atmosphere and definitely a place I want to come back to. I'll update my review once I've actually had the food and drinks.

We were quickly seated in a comfortable booth and the fun began. There were so many things I wanted to order but was told "you have to order the prime rib". All four of us took that advice and that is what we ordered. 1 rare, 2 medium rare and 1 medium and that is how they were delivered. Perfect. Meals came with soup or salad. You could also order the table side prepared Caesar Salad which both of our friends did order. Just watching the preparation of the salads was amazing. Our friends have been here many times so they knew how good they were. My wife and I each enjoyed the French Onion soup which was very full flavored unlike watery versions many restaurants serve. All of our prime rib dinners were outstanding. Horseradish added to the enjoyment of this perfectly prepared dish. I had heard that this restaurant had recent new owners. I did not verify this however. Service was as good as the food. Not only was our server (Mary) excellent but anyone walking the floor was quick to take away used plates and refill drinks. I experienced one thing I've never encountered before. When bringing our checks, our server reminded us not once but twice the tip was not included. Strange and I might have reacted if everything wasn't so otherwise.perfect. Maybe she's not been tiped before-I don't know. She did the job and we paid her well for it. Inside is dark, moody, with lots of brick and dark woods as you would expect for the era in which the building was constructed. I sat at the bar since I dined alone, where there were plenty of open barstools. They start you off with complementary bread service which is a mix of dinner rolls as well as small and large crunchy bread sticks. I just stuck to the rolls which are fairly standard dinner rolls. They bring a bowl of butter in packets; however, they did not give me a plate to eat my bread....just a napkin layed across the bartop which was strange. I later saw other bartop patrons being served a small plate for their rolls, so apparently they just forgot mine. For drinks, they do have all the usual drinks, beer, wine and cocktails. I just stuck with an iced tea which was refilled several times during my visit. I didn't want to go crazy with ordering so I just stuck to the prime rib, a side of their special baked potato, a french onion soup and an iced tea. Their actual steaks start at around $45, as of August 2026. French onion soup - pretty standard. This is a small portion/cup. Some restaurants cup sizes are larger than others. I did like it though. Prime rib - this is a healthy 16oz slice. Cooked to perfection. They asked how I wanted it....they gave me a perfect slice. The one interesting thing is they give you 2 different horseradishes here, regular and whipped. I preferred the whipped. I ate most of it, leaving only a couple of ounces at the end. The entire time I felt like this was maybe closer to 22 or 24 ounces. Twice baked potato - really tasty as they typically are. I was only able to eat half of it though. Service was very attentive even though the bartender was training a new employee the entire time.

Got a huge bread basket that looked empty, when peering in, two small pieces of stale french bread smothered in Saran wrap were visible. Shame all that wasted space. C'mon Gumbo. Don't skimp on the bread. Serve it fresh too! During past dining experiences, the fried shrimp and hushpuppies were much larger. During this visit they were midget sized, like they were "cooking to a price point". That said, Gumbo's always excelled at frying and they tasted great. The fried catfish was dredged in cornmeal and flour. It tasted as good as catfish can taste, considering slimy-stank taste is natural to a bottom feeder and next to impossible to cook out. If you like catfish, gather up a chair, you're in the right place. The gumbo was watery with small dices of sausage and more midget shrimp. The broth had little taste. Mediocre gumbo is a misdemeanor violation. I wrote Gumbo's a ticket on that one. The cajun pasta was very good. In the old days they used bowtie pasta in a thick creamy sauce smacked with Cajun decadence and big ole' shrimps. Today they used penne (not a big deal, but it cheapens the dish) in a disappointly watery sauce with a few midget shrimp. It still tasted good but it quite clear at this point Gumbo's was cooking to a price point. The STAR OF THE SHOW was the shrimp crawfish etouffee. Wow! Thick, creamy, rich gravy with a heavenly base of toasted roux having notes of roasted peanut. They got that one right, midget shrimps and all. I want another bowl NOW! DIATRIBE ALERT: Service wasn't terrible but far from exceptional. The new generation of wait staff expects big tips for mediocre service, like we should should be honored by their presence. I always tip large despite my general grumpiness. Problem is, tipping culture has gotten out of hand. It's become a bottomless pit of greed. Front and back staff with their hands out perpetually. Cash registers programmed to induce tip guilt. Dirty looks for not tipping a carry-out order. CARRY-OUT RULES: If I don't sit down to eat, I ain't tipping your ass. Go back to Nursing School or something like that. Why should the customer pick up the slack for an industry refusing to pay employees a decent wage? SUMMARY: Love the vibe. Like the food. Gumbo's was clearly cooking to a price point. Midget shrimp? Sacriledge. New Orleans ain't like that.
