    Menu with Lemon Rice Soup
    Valerie M.

Wonderful server. She told us she's from CA. Chatted with us for a few. Seems she also likes that Lemon Rice soup my gf was telling me she likes. Can't say I'm familiar with it. I ordered two up and we shared some fries. I also had a hot tea -the winter cold had gotten to me. A good coney but different from the Flint type I'm most familiar with. I'd stop in at a Leo's any time.

Ordered take-out a 1/2 hour-45 minutes before close of business; I had my wife pick up the order. We ordered the "Three Chicken Finger Pita" (Hani) and a Michigan Salad with Grilled Chicken. I had 1 Bite of the Salad and was disgusted. The Grilled chicken was not even fully cooked. I knew I would legitimately get sick if I ate anymore of that chicken if I didn't spit it out. I unfortunately thought I could have faith with the Three Chicken Finger Pita being fried chicken instead and all; so I consumed the three chicken finger pita. I currently am praying to the porcelain gods. That chicken wasn't properly dropped either. I will be returning at open of business to talk to management.

The ambiance is inviting and intimate...the perfect spot for a date night or outing with friends. We skipped their famous pretzel bread and started off with the GF Thai Lettuce wraps as an appetizer which was delicious especially with the 3 different sauces they were served with. The peanut sauce was my favorite....rich, savory, and slightly sweet similar to a satay sauce. I had the Sangria wine flight and loved all the four flavors....tropical, fruity and sweet. For my entree i had the shrimp & scollop risotto and it was just ok. The shrimp and scallops were cooked and seared perfectly but the risotto tasted a little dry. I had the same dish at the Troy location and it was covered in a flavorful sauce and was not dry. I left most of it unfinished and chose not to tell the server about it, but was disappointed. Thank goodness for ordering an appetizer! My friend had the Dana's Parmesan Chicken and said it was exceptionally delicious. Our server gets an A+ for making sure we enjoyed our meal. He was attentive, made great recommendations and checked in with us throughout. However when I go to the Troy location, we are always offered to sample the featured wine of the month before ordering our drinks and wasn't here. I don't even know what the feature wine of March is because it wasn't even mentioned by our server. Overall, a lovely dinning experience but this wasn't the 5+ star rating the Troy location has in comparison.

The…read moreinterior has been remodeled and looks great, love the dark layout and the huge dining room, however the food remains touch and go. Certain dishes are great, others not. Got a huge bread basket that looked empty, when peering in, two small pieces of stale french bread smothered in Saran wrap were visible. Shame all that wasted space. C'mon Gumbo. Don't skimp on the bread. Serve it fresh too! During past dining experiences, the fried shrimp and hushpuppies were much larger. During this visit they were midget sized, like they were "cooking to a price point". That said, Gumbo's always excelled at frying and they tasted great. The fried catfish was dredged in cornmeal and flour. It tasted as good as catfish can taste, considering slimy-stank taste is natural to a bottom feeder and next to impossible to cook out. If you like catfish, gather up a chair, you're in the right place. The gumbo was watery with small dices of sausage and more midget shrimp. The broth had little taste. Mediocre gumbo is a misdemeanor violation. I wrote Gumbo's a ticket on that one. The cajun pasta was very good. In the old days they used bowtie pasta in a thick creamy sauce smacked with Cajun decadence and big ole' shrimps. Today they used penne (not a big deal, but it cheapens the dish) in a disappointly watery sauce with a few midget shrimp. It still tasted good but it quite clear at this point Gumbo's was cooking to a price point. The STAR OF THE SHOW was the shrimp crawfish etouffee. Wow! Thick, creamy, rich gravy with a heavenly base of toasted roux having notes of roasted peanut. They got that one right, midget shrimps and all. I want another bowl NOW! DIATRIBE ALERT: Service wasn't terrible but far from exceptional. The new generation of wait staff expects big tips for mediocre service, like we should should be honored by their presence. I always tip large despite my general grumpiness. Problem is, tipping culture has gotten out of hand. It's become a bottomless pit of greed. Front and back staff with their hands out perpetually. Cash registers programmed to induce tip guilt. Dirty looks for not tipping a carry-out order. CARRY-OUT RULES: If I don't sit down to eat, I ain't tipping your ass. Go back to Nursing School or something like that. Why should the customer pick up the slack for an industry refusing to pay employees a decent wage? SUMMARY: Love the vibe. Like the food. Gumbo's was clearly cooking to a price point. Midget shrimp? Sacriledge. New Orleans ain't like that.

They both tasted like they were made in house and not from frozen. I would order these again any day. I also tried the shrimp po boy. The flavors were good, but the sandwich only had 6 shrimp. The restaurant itself was clean, and our service was prompt and friendly throughout the meal. During the daytime, however, the atmosphere felt quite dark and more like a bar than a traditional brunch spot. Our children ordered the Fruity Crème Waffle and Fruity Crème Pancakes with sausage. My husband ordered the lobster bisque and Eggs Benedict, while I had the breakfast burrito and a Bloody Mary. The kids enjoyed their meals, and my breakfast burrito and Bloody Mary were both good. Nothing particularly unique or memorable, but solid choices overall. Unfortunately, my husband's meal was more disappointing. His lobster bisque arrived barely warm, and the lobster on top was ice cold. He also felt that some of the seafood resembled imitation crab rather than lobster. To the restaurant's credit, he sent it back, but it wasn't a great first impression. The Eggs Benedict was decent, though not especially filling or noteworthy. Our biggest issue was the value. While the food was generally good, the prices felt very high for the portion sizes and overall quality. For example, one waffle cut into four pieces with a drizzle of sauce priced at $17 seemed difficult to justify. Several menu items left us feeling the same way. We really wanted to love Terry's brunch because we've had positive experiences there before, but ultimately the food didn't match the price point for us. While service was pleasant and the meal was okay overall, we left feeling underwhelmed and don't plan to return for brunch.
