I had a tankless water heater go out in the coldest stretch of winter. My thermostat (we have radiator heating) was reading 41 degrees. When calling companies on 12/28, I was being told by many they couldn't see me until early January. G.A. Eberly took my call and checked with their maintenance team to see how they could fit me in on the same day. They had a lead technician (Steven) hop on the phone and get information about what I was experiencing, before finding a way to slot me in. Steven even called back about 30 minutes later to offer a quick fix solution to see if we could get our heat back on. Excellent service! Chris was the technician dispatched. He came on time and quickly diagnosed the issue. He was friendly, helped get a fix in place, and was out the door in no time. I was happy with the price paid for what essentially amounted to a service call, even though he helped fix my issue. Excellent experience working with them. They seemed very comfortabe with my tankless system. He pointed me to Capitol Mechanical, and I had nothing but a superb experience. Of the five or so quotes I sought on a Sunday morning to replace my old electric water tank that unexpectedly just stopped working, Capitol was by far the most responsive and gave me personalized responses (quickly!) as opposed to form responses provided by some others. The owner, Germaine, was the one I talked to, and I was so impressed and put at ease while going through an otherwise stressful situation. Capitol gave me options to fit within my budget (e.g., they offered to come out on a Sunday, the same day I contacted them, but told me I could elect to save a couple hundred bucks if I waited to get my service during normal business hours on Monday; they gave me advice about what type of heater and other parts to buy on my own if I wanted to save money by just paying for labor and not any parts). I also asked them if they could reserve a Monday morning appt. for me while I tried to replace the non-functional heating element on my own, as I figured the odds were high that my DIY would go awry and I would need a new tank installed, and they reserved the appt. for me while we waited to see if my repair worked out. In the end, my repair seems to be working, so I didn't actually have Capitol come out (yet, fingers crossed). But if I need a plumber, they will be the first ones I call. Germaine also shared that they are a master plumber, and that's the kind of quality I'm looking for. To top it all off, their labor quote to install the new unit and take my old one away was the lowest price of the quotes I did get. I'd pay extra for this kind of service but it seems like their rates are super competitive!

The technician that came out (who I later found out was the owner) was very polite and explained that we needed a part that would arrive in a couple of days. A couple of days went by and I didn't hear anything so I reached out to the company. I spoke with the secretary who told me that the technician was not available, but she would have him to call back. Despite her promise of him calling back he never did and I proceeded to call back every day for two weeks without a response. At one point the secretary told me that the technician was in fact the owner and she had no clue why he wouldn't return my call. Normally I would have quickly called another company but I had to use this individual due to the water heater warranty company. After two weeks of calling without a response or the replacement part I ended up with a basement full of water caused by the leaking water heater that they were supposed to fix. I ended up calling another reputable plumbing company that was able to fix the issue the same day. I'm really unsure why the technician never called back, perhaps it was because he was being paid by the warranty company and felt that the job was too small. Either way I wouldn't recommend them due to the poor customer service.

That's where the positives ended. He relit the pilot light and THEN told me it was $250 just to relight the pilot light -- something most plumbers include in the basic fee. After paying that ridiculous charge, my water still never got hot. He didn't check, wait to see - - just said he relit it. He did make sure he had a sales pitch though. Without fully diagnosing the problem, he jumped straight to recommending a $875 burner assembly or a $5,250 replacement water heater, (complete with estimates) claiming mine was 11 years old, but my house is only 9 years old. Either the math was off, or they were hoping I wouldn't question it. I paid $250 for nothing -- no fix, no follow-up, just out the window, whoever recommended them should be ashamed of themselves. Definitely a bait-and-switch. If you're looking for real solutions and honest pricing, I strongly suggest calling someone else.
