The plumber who came highly recommended to me doesn't do work in my downtown DC location, so I asked him to recommend someone who does. He pointed me to Capitol Mechanical, and I had nothing but a superb experience. Of the five or so quotes I sought on a Sunday morning to replace my old electric water tank that unexpectedly just stopped working, Capitol was by far the most responsive and gave me personalized responses (quickly!) as opposed to form responses provided by some others. The owner, Germaine, was the one I talked to, and I was so impressed and put at ease while going through an otherwise stressful situation. Capitol gave me options to fit within my budget (e.g., they offered to come out on a Sunday, the same day I contacted them, but told me I could elect to save a couple hundred bucks if I waited to get my service during normal business hours on Monday; they gave me advice about what type of heater and other parts to buy on my own if I wanted to save money by just paying for labor and not any parts). I also asked them if they could reserve a Monday morning appt. for me while I tried to replace the non-functional heating element on my own, as I figured the odds were high that my DIY would go awry and I would need a new tank installed, and they reserved the appt. for me while we waited to see if my repair worked out. In the end, my repair seems to be working, so I didn't actually have Capitol come out (yet, fingers crossed). But if I need a plumber, they will be the first ones I call. Germaine also shared that they are a master plumber, and that's the kind of quality I'm looking for. To top it all off, their labor quote to install the new unit and take my old one away was the lowest price of the quotes I did get. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this company. I was referred to them through my water heaters warranty company. The technician that came out (who I later found out was the owner) was very polite and explained that we needed a part that would arrive in a couple of days. A couple of days went by and I didn't hear anything so I reached out to the company. I spoke with the secretary who told me that the technician was not available, but she would have him to call back. Despite her promise of him calling back he never did and I proceeded to call back every day for two weeks without a response. At one point the secretary told me that the technician was in fact the owner and she had no clue why he wouldn't return my call. Normally I would have quickly called another company but I had to use this individual due to the water heater warranty company. After two weeks of calling without a response or the replacement part I ended up with a basement full of water caused by the leaking water heater that they were supposed to fix. I ended up calling another reputable plumbing company that was able to fix the issue the same day. I'm really unsure why the technician never called back, perhaps it was because he was being paid by the warranty company and felt that the job was too small. Either way I wouldn't recommend them due to the poor customer service. read more

I had an issue with water flow and water hammering. I contact Capitol Mechanic to come out and inspect my pipes. Germaine was courteous, knowledgeable and communicative throughout the entire process. He explained everything (showed me videos and pictures) that he was doing and came back a few times to make sure he got the issue corrected. Not only did he follow Covid protocols, he also wore shoe coverings in my house and cleaned everything up when he finished. I initially called them about a leak from my kitchen sink, and the plumber told me of an inexpensive fix for it that didn't involve pulling out my cabinets. When I called them back to fix my toilet and garden faucet, he was able to fix the faucet without replacing it. With up front pricing, they work with you to get you right and NOT rip you off. They rescheduled for the following week, and never showed up again, despite constantly calling and following up. Wasted two days waiting for nothing. We asked Capitol Mechanical to replace the bathtub faucet and shower curtain holder. He ordered the part and when he arrived to install it, he informed us the ring couldn't be installed. He installed just the faucet, charged us the full price, and threw away the shower curtain holder. At first he agreed to find a suitable shower curtain holder, then he stopped communicating with us altogether. When I disputed it with my credit card company he lied to them. Steer clear of this company, there are plenty of reputable companies you can use. read more

The Capitol Mechanical Company lacks integrity, is not reliable, or efficient, and is a rip off. They collected a service fee prior to visiting my home, showed up, and then stated they would need to return the next day; however did not do as promised. Instead, they asked me to send them the error code presented on my machine so they could know the issue. The technician stated that he would order the part and return to install it once it arrived. After numerous follow ups, the tech responds and returns the following week but only to SHOW FACE. He did not have the part he guaranteed would fix the problem. My water heater is still not fixed. The man said they would be out to my home between 8:00AM - 12:00 PM. The day came and no one showed up. I called and called no one answered. I will not recommend them to anyone.
