Of all the 10th street spots I really prefer J Clyde's the most. Vibrant neighborly feel and everyone is treated well. Oh and cheap drinks ain't bad either, with munchies like frozen pizza if you get to that point. I plan on continuing to come here when I need a cold one.

Cash only (ATM nearby)! Out of all the bars on the east side, this one is tied for first place for me. They have a local beer (and 2 others) on draft, a nice selection of quality bottled beers (Matilda, Sierra Nevada, Demolition) and liquors (Willett bourbon), and high quality mixers. It's long and narrow and can get smoky, but the ventilation is pretty good. We've had only friendly bartenders. There's a row of stools at the bar, and a booth along the wall. The opposite side of the booth has chairs. Cool pin-up posters adorn the walls, along with some sports memorabilia. This bar is seriously one long room with a big window at the front. There are TWO Megatouch games (aka "alone" games) at the bar. I'm rusty at Photohunt...I need to come here more!

Music, when on, very loud. People start screaming at one another. Neighborhood bar where mat everyone knows each other. I mean they really start yelling at each other, especially the women. Cinder block behind bar, all grey walls. Decorated with older photos of Marilyn, Elvis, the duke, james Dean, etc. horrible cooler with bright white lights about 3/4 down the bar. Maybe 15 stools at bar. 4-5 lower rating tables opposite the bar. Bar is abnormally tall. Black white checkered floor. Couple 42" tvs. Many people playing cards, which is just great, old school. Service is good, the bartender knows what he is doing.

This no-frills dive has cheap drinks, an entertaining cast of characters, and a good juke. Best east side bar by a mile.

It has High Life on tap for those who want to be cheap or ironic but also has Guiness and Boddingtons in the fridge for the beer snobs.

We grabbed a table outside and watched the place slowly fill up. Even as it got busier, our waitress somehow never skipped a beat. She was juggling a full section, recommending menu favorites, and even mixed up a drink for me when I couldn't decide what I wanted. Those are the servers you remember. Let's talk about that Bloody Mary... I've seen Bloody Marys that came with a celery stalk. This one came with what felt like an entire appetizer sampler balanced on top. Bacon, cheese, olives, pepperoni...if you leave hungry after finishing one of these, that's on you. Bloody Mary Overachievement Meter: (possibly qualifies as brunch.) The burger completely lived up to the hype. Crispy edges, juicy center, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. The hand-dipped chicken fingers were every bit as good, and the fries became dangerous the second they met the homemade ranch. (Yes...get the ranch.) Ranch Dunkability Meter: 9.8/10. I'd happily dip "just one more fry" about seventeen times. Inside, you'll find live music, TVs with whatever game is on, and a crowd that somehow makes you feel like you've been stopping in for years. It's casual, welcoming, and exactly what you hope a neighborhood tavern will be. Parking can be a little tricky depending on the time of day, but it's absolutely worth circling the block once if you have to.

It's got a western ish feel to it with plenty of TVs with games showing. I ordered the All American Steak burger with all toppings available and pepper jack cheese. It did not disappoint. For $11 for everything you see here???? That's an amazing deal. The pepper jack was also had some good kick to it which I especially liked. This is a repeat for sure. Edited to say the Bloody Mary comes with a whole stalk of celery, a skewer of olives/cheese/pepperoni, and tater tots. It's massive and truly like a meal all by itself.

Located…read moreright in the middle of a residential neighborhood, it's the kind of place where you'll second-guess your GPS until you're at the front door. I visited in January, and "authentic" apparently applies to the temperature, too--it was pretty dang chilly inside, so you might want to keep your coat on while you eat! Breaded Pork Tenderloin (an Indiana classic): This was the star of the show. It's massive and delicious. I paired mine with the Hot Pot Pig, and dipping part of the tenderloin into it was a game changer. I saw some online reviews calling it "life changing"--while I wouldn't go quite that far, it's easily one of the better ones I've had. Just a heads up: it's a heavy meal. You probably shouldn't eat more than one of these a month if you value your heart health! Spicy Buffalo Blue Cheese Chips: These were okay, but honestly not worth it. I'd skip these next time and save the room for something else. The Pie: I didn't have any room left to try a slice, but they looked fantastic behind the counter. Service & Atmosphere The staff here are super friendly and welcoming. Even though it's a modest setup, the service was incredibly fast, and we had our food in no time. It wasn't very busy when we stopped by, which made for a nice, quiet lunch. The Verdict: A great, no-frills spot for a massive tenderloin. Just dress warmly if you're heading there in the winter!

(Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. A hug that can also provide you with copious amounts of Irish whiskey, which sounds like the best kind of hug, to me.
