I'm visiting FL from California and honestly I've previously been disappointed with the Jacksonville food scene so I didn't have much expectations for this place. Going inside, would not recommend due to the smell. They house raw food so I'm not surprised that it smelled due to all the seafood they had, PLUS it's a seafood spot so I wasn't expecting like a flower smell or something loll. The service here was pretty good, no issues with that at all. Now the food, was excellent. I rate this restaurant four starts due to my own personal experience with seafood but this food was amazing. I decided to make a detour into JAX in my drivr from MIA my way back home to ATL. Alittle seafood stench won't hurt anybody too long. it's been some years and picked up my usual: medium garlic blue crab and small garlic shrimp. If nothing in this world is true, one things for sure...I love seafood, garlic, and sauces! I was in the mood to crack some crab legs and thought JC's was the place to go. Not only do they have an abundant selection they also have pre-prepared boxes of garlic butter shrimp, garlic butter oysters, and a my favorite is the garlic butter snow crab. The box runs for about $39 and comes packed with 12 leg smothered in their signature sauce. My BFF was doing the long trek to 103rd Street to the other J C's for our Blue Crab run (from the Beaches) until she opted to check out J C's at Cassat Ave today. What a terrific call to check out JC's at Cassat Ave! The Blue Crabs were much larger and heavier AND we were able to get ALMOST 100% Female crabs!! I made a trip back here even though I said I wouldn't, that was 6 years ago. This was the only place in town that had live crabs for a decent price, at least near where we live. Service was good this time but it was also closing time and I wasn't solo. Got what we needed and more and off we went. Still a little pricier on some of the other things we grabbed such as crawfish, seasoning, mussels, etc compared to the other seafood markets I've been too but it's more convenient to make one stop. read more

My coworkers and i got some take out food from here today. The prices were kinda expensive but then again seafood is expensive in general. We got the garlic shrimp tray combos which came with a decent amount of food. They put butter and seasonings and can add more per request. My number one spot for crabs and garlic trays! I have been coming here forever. Up until I moved to a different side of town. The customer service is good and the amount of food you get is way more than most places. Their seasoning has something extra that makes you want to come here as opposed to going anywhere else. Absolutely not. They have hiked the prices for mother's day. A large tray of crabs increased in price by about $8-9.00. I have never seen those prices before. I do not like the lack of trust and absolutely will not be going back. They were very rude, and thier communication skills are very poor. One customer was told there were no crabs, while I was told there was, and that almost turned into an altercation. So went here first on the quest for blue crabs in Jacksonville..... I think this place is better for if you just want to buy crab and cook it yourself. They did have some good looking fish on ice and and assortment of crabs by size. Coming from a coastal town-- the crabs were not on ice and the containers didn't seem that cool. But alot of the crabs were not moving much which generally means they may be on the verge of kicking the bucket(i would have been less skeptical if they had been cool which will make a crab sluggish)--which is not that good. Otherwise this place was stinky and very dirty. The crab that they have already cooked is cold. I almost gave it a try until i asked how they were planning to reheat them...(thinking they would re-steam somehow) We were told... "We will just stick them in the microwave". Ordered three combo plates (should have included eggs, potato, sausage, and corn) on December 24. Drove back to GA, froze them and heated one tray up today to see there weren't any sausages in the tray, there was a whole bunch of potatoes though. It was a 20 min wait on a Fridat. . I get that. Then we are seated. Ordered drinks first and then meal. An hour later the guy at the table next to me gets up and leaves comes back and says he comained. He got here after us. Then they got their food before us. We have no bucket with utensils needed to eat or napkins. I have 3 kids here hungry asking me mom where is the foo? then another party comes in. Knew that looking for seafood experts on the Westside was suspect, but come on. Asked for shrimp to be deveined and they looked at me dumbfounded. Explained what I meant (seafood place that literally didn't know what "declining shrimp" even meant) and they took the shrimp back, out of sight, and brought back a package all wrapped up. Have pics, but can't attach. All veins still in, only the shrimp had been sliced so they were twice as hard for ME to remove... THANKS. On the plus-side, got to teach our kids what the digestive track in shrimp looks like up close. Also a plus, after deveining and cleaning the shrimp myself, they were tasty. I recently visited for the first time. I went there for oysters and crab legs. Reasonable prices and their customer service is good.

Used 2 be my go place until prices and food wasnt matching up. New faces with new attitude no longer a customer.

Been here in the past and I must say that our most recent visit wasn't what we remembered. The food seemed a lot less fresh. The man did get our order wrong so we paid a little more than expected. This place fills up fast so something about it must keep them coming back. I'm from Virginia and the highlight of my Jacksonville trips are the garlic crabs. I wait all year for it and it sucks to be disappointed after traveling so many miles. Hopefully they get their biz together soon. It was a great place in the past. Second visit here was to bring two of my Grandsons to have boiled blue crab. We left the house about noon and I asked where they'd like to eat, figuring Mickie D's or Krystal would be my destination. There was quiet in the backseat as the two put their heads together whispering and conspiring. I said, "boys", where too? They blurted out, "CRABS", and little did they know, I was saying, "YES!", to myself. When we arrived at JC's, I asked if they would cook one dozen from the live bin? I wanted to pick out big ones. He said, in his typical curt manner, "NO!, we have them back here already cleaned, no live crabs cooked here", so I placed my order accordingly. Peppered/garlic, steamed, and we'll eat them here. 10 minutes later, he brought them over on a tray and the boys went ummmm. We found some shell crackers and went to town...Damn, they were hot with red pepper, even to my palate, and I feared the boys would leave me to devour the lot, but these two guys are veterans of hot. We pretty much split them 3 ways. I'm not sure when I've eaten such a large dose of garlic. The crabs varied in size from small to the respectable. In spite of the guys behind the coolers not having very friendly demeanor's, the crabs were very fresh, sweet and easy enough to dissect. Can't wait for the next time. read more

The BEST garlic crabs or live blue crabs IMO . Every Friday or Saturday my mom would pick up two dozen blue crabs for our weekend fish frys. They've since moved from 103rd to Cassat. And I've grown up now and moved cross country with my hubby . And let's just say I get a little homesick especially on the weekends! ;D read more

Do not eat at JC's fresh seafood. My mom purchased me a seafood tray with 3 snow clusters and some shrimps and as I was eating I realized that there was a funny taste to it so I smelled it and it smelled like pure fucking ammonia!! Then the next day I returned the tray to them and told them to smell it and they told me " well when you leave seafood out all night it will smell bad." Ugh NO, there's no reason my food should smell like ammonia. I couldn't even breastfeed my newborn because I was so scared that the ammonia was in my breast milk.
