I call places like this a hidden gem. Everyone in my group turned their nose up at the idea of coming to this place based on the location. Ohhhh how fast those tables turned. When I tell you everything was Amazing? I promise if I weren't on a diet I'd be back there tonight! Upon entering, the ambiance was very chill but the plates everyone had as we got to our seats looked better and better. The smell of fresh seasoned seafood over took me..it was amazing. Our server was amazing. I'm anxious to go back. Catfish with cheese grits and lima beans Crab legs Blackened shrimp pasta Nothing disappointed. I'll put some photos up ...tell me what you think!

    Dip was awesome!!

Don't sleep on this place yes it's in a strip mall don't let that fool you! This was some of the best food!!!!!!! And service was over the top! The beer was cold , onion petals better than that chain restaurant spot, homemade salad dressing, awesome shrimp dip complimentary on table with crackers that was soo good! The Shrimp Charleston is absolutely fantastic! Fried grit cakes with a seafood bisque with blackened shrimp , sausage and chives!!! If the food was not good enough the servers are attentive and very nice! Never once walked by without checking on you! I have had dinners that cost 4 times this and was not 1/2 as good ! If you go ask for Jaime to be your server she is fantastic!

Food was amazing, as well as service. Place was slightly quiet on Sunday, but the whole family enjoyed.

If you're craving seafood that tastes like it came straight from the coast and is made with love, then you have to try them This family-owned and operated restaurant is serving up some seriously unforgettable dishes. I visited last week along with and we had the opportunity to sample many dishes from the menu! Everything slapped but my favorite was the shrimp Charleston! It's a rich, flavorful twist on shrimp and grits and I'm still thinking about it! Everything was perfectly cooked, piled high, and if it was fried, it had the perfect crisp! Seriously, worth every bite. I'm pretty sure any meal you choose from them with satisfy every seafood craving. I personally can't wait to visit again!

What a great addition to the Lakewood area!!! It was opened about 2 months ago and has great seafood options. It feels like a mom & pop place and has pictures of people (maybe family?) catching all kinds of fish. I didn't catch our server's name but she was very helpful and answered all my questions. The hush puppies were :delicious! Perfectly seasoned and light and crispy. It seems hard to believe, but most seafood restaurants Ive been to have terrible hush puppies, but not at Southern Shores!! I really like how many sides they offer as well. The mac& cheese was delicious and the green beans were fresh and tasty. My daughter loved her grilled cheese (she's hard to please) and my stuffed snapper was decent. We will definitely be back!

I take my mom out to lunch every other week & we both love seafood. We were excited to try the newly-opened SSS & had a positive experience. Our server, Trinity was an absolute sweetheart & took great care of us. The staff all seemed to be working together happily & seamlessly which is quite impressive for a new spot. I didn't get shots of my mom's food but she had a cup of oyster stew & the flounder/fries basket. She did not love the stew overall (says hers is better, haha) so she ate the oysters out of it. She said the flounder & fries were delicious. I got the blackened shrimp lunch entree with cheese grits and green beans as my sides. The grits impressed me - I'm often sorely disappointed by restaurant grits. The green beans were very fresh & buttery. The shrimp was good but I do prefer mine more browned. Overall, we were very happy with the meal & look forward to trying out even more from their extensive menu.

My family had been hearing some rumblings about a new seafood place in the old Lakewood Pharmacy shopping center, so, I had to go check it out. Good thing I did too, because Southern Shores is doing just about everything right when it comes to making great seafood coupled with genuine respect and care for the customers. So, it was 2pm on a Sunday and when my friend and I walked in the placed was PACKED. Luckily there were some seats at the bar, so we sat there - which allowed us to enjoy a cold draft IPA and watch some football on their screens, which are just enough. It's not a sports bar by any means, but it is a lively place worth dining in. And that's mainly because the people there are all well managed, happy, knowledgable and generally having a good time serving customers. Now onto the food. For starters, it's important to know that Southern Shores is run by a multi-generation seafood family, as the owner's family founded Cedar River Seafood - which is a legendary, ol' chain around Florida. So they know a thing or two about what they're doing. I had the Oyster Stew, a cream and butter stew with whole oysters in it. They were great. Then we also had Fried Crawfish Tails, which is something I've never even heard of before but certainly delicious. And for my. meal, I ordered the Stuffed Flounder which was amazing. My buddy ordered the Clam Strips and they were very lightly battered and super tasty. Also, the prices here are very reasonable. So you can try a bunch of different things without spending a ton. In general, this is an easy 5-star review and if I had to guess, it's going to become a local go-to for many Jacksonville seafood lovers for the foreseeable future.

Only being opened a couple of weeks, Southern Shores provided friendly and attentive service as they started us with some complimentary shrimp dip and crackers as we sat down. Our waiter Kyle was on point and our food arrived fast even while the restaurant was about 90% full. There was just the right amount of decor on the walls for the southern seafood vibe and the light fixtures above the tables were a classy touch - not too pretentious and better than basic. While I wanted to choose the dockside double (pick 2), catfish was not an option. Since my wife decided to order fried shrimp, I was able to order the whole catfish dinner knowing there would be some shrimp available for me to enjoy. :) For my sides, I opted for grits and collards and both were well executed. Portions were ample and prices were fair. This was like a throwback to the days of St. Johns seafood back in its heyday when they were all over town. Count us in as fans.

Had lunch today at Southern Shores. It was delicious. It's a new spot in the Lakewood area in Jacksonville The interior is open and inviting with a bar. Minimal draft selection but something for everyone also a nice Wine menu! I ordered a fried lunch combo with shrimp, flounder, cheese grits and collards. So delicious. The staff is friendly. Spoke with the owner and he is from same bloodline as Cedar Creek. Give them a try! It's delicious

Massive amounts of nicely cooked food at a great price. All this food was $16.99! It fed me for 3 meals and was great reheated in the air fryer. Everything could use a touch of salt for my taste but that is why there's salt on the table. Parking is easy, being in a strip mall. Nice creek to watch out the window. My server Jaime was an absolute delight. Will definitely return and recommend.

The restaurant has a sea feel. It sits next to a creek and some booths have a great view. Fish of all sizes and shapes cover the walls. They play a great mix of oldies music at the perfect volume for conversation. We started with our upgraded sides of Clam Chowder and salad. The clam chowder was creamy and came with a hush puppy that enhanced the chowder. The salad was a nice side salad with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, sweet onions, and croutons. The blue cheese dressing was full of chunky blue cheese in a creamy base. We were both disappointed with the main meals. The Alabama catfish lunch meal came with a single catfish. It was underdone and not flavorful. The grilled shrimp were small and served on a bed of rice. It was OK. They offer beer and wine. The beer was cold. Service was friendly but we felt a bit rushed. One server tried to pick up my plate while I was still eating including a side I hadn't started eating yet. Note-they charge a non-cash payment fee.

We took our family here when they came to visit and it turned into a great night of eating. I was surprised when arriving that it was at the end of a strip mall but the inside of this place is very welcoming with lots of great decor. Our waiter was honestly so friendly and helpful with all our questions. The Kona Wave drafts were cold and tasted great. All of the food we ordered and ate here was good but if you're looking for higher quality sea food I would recommend somewhere else. I will say though, their coleslaw was the best coleslaw I've ever had!

Southern hospitality at its finest. Had a good time visiting here on my trip to Jacksonville I decided to stop in for some great seafood. Though they don't have an extensive drink menu I was able to get a glass of wine and that was good. I also ordered devil crab because I've never had it before and wanted to try it it's a play on stuffed crab back and it was. It was good. It wasn't my cup of tea, but it was enjoyable. It needed less breading the stars of the show for me where the crab legs and the lobster tail. Both of those were cooked to perfection. They were juicy and that season butter just took it over the top. I had a side baked potato loaded, and that was great as well. Being there I saw that it's a local place that a lot of people come to on a Sunday people just kept coming in and out the whole time we were there so it seems like it's a local favorite and rightfully so

The best things in life require some effort to build your appetite, and whereas I did not collect a golden idol like Dr. Jones, I was rewarded instead with a cheerful new friend and one of the absolute FRESHEST sandwiches in JAX! Nestled between the sparse woods and surrounding offices you will find happy, loyal diners who fill Hollywood Heroes and Subs each lunchtime to the point where the line stretches out the door. I had just seen the last of the lunch crowd smiling and saying goodbye for the day to our energetic and upbeat host, Founder, sandwich artist and Jacksonville native Kevin Porter, an actor turned restaurateur -- known for roles including "Lazer" in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, plus appearances in Daredevil and General Hospital. Something that cannot be "acted" around was his genuine welcome and desire to roll out the red Hollywood carpet for all who make the journey (yes, it's a REAL red carpet)!! This sweet shop is the perfect size, and has a significant amount of Hollywood memorabilia all around to keep you engaged while chatting with Kevin as he works his magic. And what he produced was a treasure of cheese and meats that made me forget about whatever might have been chasing me through those woods to get there! J/K In between wonderful conversation with Kevin, each bite of my MASSIVE "The Towering Inferno" hot hero (pepperoni, Genoa salami, cappy and melted provolone) on fresh baked Village Bread made me realize just how huge and delicious this thing was. Kevin promised that the one pictured is exactly what every customer will get...he prides himself on highly generous portions at fair prices...and man, did he deliver!! I would have been completely satisfied with HALF, but NO!!!! There sat its twin, begging for sacrifice to the stomach Gods. I was only too happy to oblige! The owner Kevin = engaging, friendly, talented with his craft, makes you feel like you drove through the woods to come home to your happy place. The ambiance = bright, colorful, great memorabilia, puts you as the star of the show. The sandwiches = creative in name and product with fresh being the operative word, this sandwich hit above its price point and I can't wait to try to the rest of the menu! So no, I didn't get chased by a boulder, or leave with Dr. Jones' golden idol, but I did get a Golden Belly from my experience, and the knowledge of why hundreds of hungry lunch- goers seek this "Temple of Delish" every day!! Crack the whip and corral your family into the car for this absolute treat in the core of "ancient Jacksonville!!"

But Jax Bread is probably the best you're going to get in Jacksonville. And it's excellent on its own merits. I ordered the lox bagel and it hit all the right notes: a perfectly chewy bagel, super fresh toppings, and the ideal cream cheese-to-bagel ratio (which matters more than people realize). Everything tasted fresh and was thoughtfully put together (more proper ratios). The service is always lovely, and I've genuinely never had anything here that wasn't delicious. This visit, I also grabbed the day-old mystery 3-pack of bagels so I could carb out a few more times this week. They're just as tasty, freeze beautifully, and at $2.99 it's an unbeatable deal. I'm already eyeing Jax Bread for some Christmas goodies this year because there are so many great things to choose from. If you haven't been yet, fix that.
