Safe Harbor Seafood Market is a great place to shop for fresh seafood of many varieties! This market carries all the fish, shellfish and many other items like the sauces and spices to make all of your seafood meals special! It is very popular as is the restaurant that bears nearly the same title across the street. I've picked up fresh shrimp on a couple of occasions and some whiting. Safe Harbor is pretty spacious inside, has a nice parking lot with pretty easy entry into the store. I'm very impressed with the many varieties of sauces and spices they carry. It appears they like to make the best ones available to the customers. If you want some merch, yes, there is one area that carries t-shirts and other accessories. Also, those who work the counters and check-out are very friends and supportive when you have questions. For many, it's a pretty long drove here, but they come anyway! I will say that the cost of fresh fish can be pricey, and it is here. But you're pretty much going to get some of the best in seafood offerings in Jacksonville. It's worth the trip to get here! This review is for the seafood market which is directly across the street from the restaurant. The seafood market is a wonderfully large place with plenty of fresh seafood and all the accompaniments you would need to prepare a great seafood dish on your own. We stopped by after going to the restaurant and got some fresh mayport shrimp along with corn, potatoes, citrus, and some ingredients to make a seafood boil. Everything was so fresh, and the market even smells fresh... Not like the standard fish market. For those who like to grab fresh seafood and eat it right away, there are picnic tables and benches right outside the front door. They do offer to pack seafood products in ice at checkout, a very nice touch. With great pricing, fresh products and excellent service this is a wonderful seafood market to visit. read more

We had lunch across the street at the restaurant and then decided to check out the seafood market for some fresh seafood for dinner. If you have not been here you should really check it out because it is massive. The space is impressive and really clean. They have every type of fresh seafood, including plenty of varieties and sizes of Mayport shrimp. We also picked up some corn, potatoes and garlic boil ingredients. The prices were very reasonable. Really good selection of local fresh seafood. If you are fixin to make a crab boil they have everything there from the seasonings, to crab n shrimp, potatoes, garlic, lemons, corn on the cob. I can't remember if they sell beer or not but there's a GWOG down the road with beer, snacks, and lotto tickets. I always add a crappy beer like PBR to my boils. read more

Wow! That is the best way to describe this place, what an amazing selection, lobsters, shrimp, tilapia, octopus, whiting, crabs, everything they just have everything you might want. They also have all sorts of seasonings and also the veggies you need for a proper crab boil. I just went in for a look after eating at the restaurant and came out with 4 whole fish, 6 blue crabs, a two pound cluster of king crab, 2 pounds of head on shrimp, and a few other things. Being that Florida is pretty much surrounded by water you would think that seafood markets would be everywhere but there not. I find it hard to find a decent seafood market. Luckily Safe Harbor has this newly constructed Market where they sell everything from fresh local fish to flown in Maine Lobster. They sell their own blend of seasonings and spices. You can buy a whole fish and their employees will cut or fillet your catch into any size or portion you desire. If you live far don't worry they even have lots of ice that you can stuff in your freezer bag for your trip. This is a real hidden gem that's worth checkout if you love fresh fish. read more

Okay, it's been years since they started this project. We were finally able to come and check it out. It is a huge space, very clean with all of your fresh seafood needs. Maybe it was an off day, but the smell was pretty pungent for me and that was through my mask. I did visit the restroom and they are also very clean. My partner wanted to pick up some fresh fish to have it prepared at the restaurant, but was informed they do not offer that option anymore between them. Unfortunate, because it was usually what we would do when the market was inside of the restaurant across the street. There were a lot of customers inside. Plenty of staff. All of the fresh seafood looked really good. Yet, we did not purchase anything while we were there. We opted to go across the street to the restaurant instead. read more

This place is amazing! We so appreciate their being open for business during quarantine with face masks and lined spacing. The line was long, but the selection of fresh fish and seafood was FANTASTIC! We selected the lobster cakes (frozen section), sausage, Argentina red shrimp, and local jumbo shrimp. We took it home and used these wonderful ingredients to make our first shrimp boil, and later a pasta/shrimp/artichoke/sun dried tomato dish (my fav dish I've adapte3d from a little eatery in Los Angeles called C & O Tratteria in Venice). Just left safe harbor and had a questionable experience. Young worker (short with man bun), I think he's new as I've never seen him before, dropped a piece of salmon on the floor, washed it off with water and gave it to customer, thinking no one would notice. I highly doubt this is protocol and it's pretty gross/deceptive. read more

How come they don't clean fish like they used to, they didn't scale my b-liner and pampano and didn't remove the fins

This used to be our goto restaurant. We would always travel from St. Augustine to Mayport to eat here even when there is one in crescent beach which is closer. The long lines have always been an issue here but good food is worth the wait. This time the lines were long as usual but they kept holding on taking orders because the kitchen was overwhelmed. We waited in line for over two hours and then when we got to the register they stalled on orders again for 45 mins. Once we placed our order there were no tables mainly because there were boaters sitting at them talking and playing on tablets who clearly did not order any food and the restaurant would not ask them to move even though they were loitering. Once we did get our food the "fresh catch" which was grouper today tasted like tuna that had sat out in the sun raw for three hours, considering the fresh catch sandwich is a 20$ sandwich. We have been coming here for over 15 years. This is a shame because this place was always fresh boat to table seafood. We won't be coming back! read more

What a difference a year makes!!! This was a fun afternoon trip across the ferry for a fish lunch and take whole fish home to grill. NEVER AGAIN. The restaurant at was filthy and the staff wanted to be anywhere but work. We were two away from placing our order when the register staff walked away in tears never to return. 6 people standing behind the counter doing little if anything. Finally placed order and went to sit at a dirty table in a filthy porch. Waited another 20 minutes for food delivery- food ok but cold. Moving across the street to the fish market. A little cleaner but the fish looked like it was a week old with eyes that looked like the birds from across the street have been pecking at them. No management in sight or in charge. You can blame staffing all you want but this is an owner/management problem. I will not be returning and can not recommend. read more

I love the fresh fish but I was very disappointed with the no attempt to wear masks and keep customers safe. I know the employees are young & probably won't die if they get covid, but their older customers have a much higher chance of death. The restaurant is no better - no masks on any staff.
