WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG IF THE PARTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE BEFORE I TAKE AN ENTIRE DAY TO FIX A CAR THAT IVE HAD FOR ONE MONTH? I was talked into buying a car the day I told them I would just be looking. Thought I was happy. Take it home, check engine light comes on. No washer fluid present. Smells like it's burning when it's driven too long. Shakes when I break. Had to bring it back to DSM from ames to JUST figure out what it needed. Was told it would be 3.8 hours for service and could keep it over night. but I've got a job and a home to get back to, so I schedule service for TWO WEEKS later. Day of service comes, 4.5 hours in, I call. They say it will be another hour to an hour and a half. I ask why. They said they had to wait on the parts to arrive this morning before starting the work. Mind you, this business asked me to write a review for them prior to leaving with the car on the day of buying. I am sure any reviews that got them to 2.9 stars is from reviewing before actually having the product. I would give them 0 stars but thats not an option. Ive had my car 9 months now and now its been in the shop 4 times over the same thing. They cant/wont fix the problem right and it keep leaving me on the side of the road. I wish i never went here in the first place. Horrible service read more

I currently have a car with JD Byrider and I have had nothing but problems ever since. Ever since I've gotten the car and owned it the Heat has never worked and I have brought it in twice to fix it but I ended up paying money for it to not be fixed so I stopped trying. And In the last year I've had my car in the shop or broken down more then I have even drove it. First the problem was the alternator and battery needed replaced we did that snd a week later my cars not starting. Then it was some sensor problem and I ended up having to pay a good amount of money just to jump the car in the parking lot and then having to come and tow my car 2 DAYS later. And I'm just guessing they are gonna give me some BS excuse of a fix to suck some more money out of me. It's completely disrespectful, I have never missed a payment or even caused problems with these guys and I just think they do not have the best mechanics and need more accountability. If you ever decide to get a car from JD my only advice is to get a new mechanic and not take the car to them for any problems because out of the 7 times my car has been in the shop they have only managed to fix 1 thing and what I hear was a pretty basic fix. I will be getting a different mechanic from here on out read more

J.D. Byrider is terrible. Bought a vehicle from them and overall paying about 6 times more than what it's actually worth. They have a 'warranty' over so called 'big ticket' such as the transmission and engine. However everything else on the vehicle is crap. Already replaced tires, rotors, brakes, windshield wipers, there is a ticking noise in the back of the vehicle on rear passenger side, spark plugs, oil, intake filter, cabin filter, there is something wrong with the engine as well as the gas tank that has to do with the fumes. All of this has happened within the first year. I wouldn't wish J.D. Byrider on my worst enemy. Also, if you miss one payment they automatically take the vehicle from you and sell it in auction, which even then you are still liable to pay off the remainder of the balance. Save yourself time, money, and troubles. Shop anywhere else but here!!! read more

Buying my van from them thought I was getting a good deal until, I found that I was lied to from day one. First of all the back up camera to my van never worked and the salesman pointed that out to me but I didn't see that as a big deal because the van seemed to run great and with 2 children with medical issues I needed a vehicle fast, but I found out that for me to get cheaper insurance I need the back up camera to work and JD Byrider says it's my responsibility to pay to have it fixed. Then after only having the van for a couple of days the air-conditioning went out, I called JD Byrider and they said bring it in and they would fix it, I thought great they are going to stick to what the say. I took my van on they fixed it or so I thought I had to bring it back a week later for the same thing they fixed it again and so far it works great. Then a couple of weeks ago I had to go Arkansas for family emergency on the way back to Iowa my van started overheating and I had to pull over several times when I got back to Iowa I brought it back to JD Byrider to the shop and they looked at it and said there was nothing wrong and sent me on my way that following weekend my van overheated multiple times again then my van started having trouble starting it wouldn't start so I took it back up to JD Byrider and the manager took it around the block and said there was nothing wrong with it that he could see the next day my van was dead it wouldn't start at all the battery was dead. From the beginning I was told that if my van ever had any problems where it had to be put in the shop overnight that I would be given a loaner so I wouldn't be stuck untrue my shot my van has been in the shop for 3 days and I have had to struggle to find a way to get my kids to and from I think it's a bit ridiculous that I've had to have my vehicle in the shop this many times and had it for less than a year I'm sorry less than 5 months at that and on top of that they haven't kept a word also I was told that I would only have to pay $50 down in the parts would be covered and now I find out that I have to pay for the part to fix my van except for parts like the radio the air conditioner all the major electrical parts transmission battery were covered that's not true I was informed yesterday that I have to pay $100 for a major electronical piece without this part my van doesn't run. I was going to bring my daughter there to get her first vehicle I won't be doing that now read more

Horrible place. Mistakes always made and never fixed or taken responsibility for by staff memebers. Every time I've brought my car in to be fixed, I was dismissed. Even after I've taken my car other places and had a diagnostic test done and was told what was wrong with it, however J.D Byrider never looked at the car for more then 5 minutes each time I brought it in. The first car I test drove the day I got the one I have now, also had no working heat in it. Seems to me like they have bad cars on their lot. This is the worst business I've ever dealt with. I feel as if I'm being taken as a joke. You can tell, money is all this business cares about. Do not come here to get a car. This has been a nightmare from the very start. read more

Went in to the store to ask how much one of the models on the lot would cost. They set me up with a salesperson, but after filling out four pre-approval forms she walked away (I thought I would humor her just to get a price). Another person came back and when he asked how he could help I asked about how much the car cost. He said that we had to go through my information and we went through the exact same forms and questions. He left, and I ended up walking out of the place. No idea how much the car costs. read more

Bought a car for good old J.D. Byrider a few years back when living out in Iowa. Great car, great price, great service. Since have moved back to NY, wound up in Iowa a few months ago. Stopped by J.D. , wound up dropping off my rental a buying a new Jeep to drive back. I wind up in the area every couple months on sales trips, always stop by JD when in town for service. JD Byrider takes advantage of people in need. My car broke down and I needed a new car immediately. I didn't have a lot of credit other than what I've earned from Student Loans, so I went to JD Byrider. If I had known I had other options I would have taken them. JD charged me double the recommended value for a crap car with a 20% "high risk" interest rate. Since at the time I was in a rush to get a car so I could go to work that day, I didn't even research them or the car I was buying. The car I bought, a 2004 Chevy Malibu Classic, at the time, was only worth about $5-6K. Their list price for the car was $10,595. That, with their 20% interest rate, meant that after my three years of financing, I would have paid $15,000 for a $5,000 car. The first time I tried to use my sun visor it fell off, and so did the passenger side one. My salesperson, Jenny, was really friendly and told me that if I had any problems or needed anything at all just to call or text her. A month after buying the car, it wouldn't start, so I had to pay $90 to get it towed all the way across town. I text Jenny to ask if it was something they would cover in my warranty, no response. I text her again the next day, after the car had been towed, no response. After the service center checked it out they said the only problem was my battery, but that my security system was a little off. They replaced the battery free of charge and sent me on my way. ONE WEEK later my car wouldn't start again, so I had to shell out another $90 to get it towed back. This time when I text Jenny I said something along the lines of "I got my car fixed last week, but now it's not starting again. Thanks so much for helping me last time, I'm glad to know I can count on JD Byrider." I'm guessing she could sense the livid sarcasm and she actually responded saying she was looking into it and going to make sure I didn't have to pay for anything. The Service Center got a hold of me and informed me that it was my security system and they were replacing it under warranty. Replacing it. Let me say that one more time... REPLACING IT. So they "replaced" my security system and sent me on my way once more, with now two tow bills totaling $180. Less than a month later the car wouldn't start again. I text Jenny once more to no response. Not wanting to dump another $90 on a tow I just went to Google. I found out that the security system issue was common in my car and I found a simple solution which, thankfully, worked. A few months later my check engine light came on right around the time I was due for an oil change. So I took it in for an oil change, but the light turned off on the way there. I told them about it and he said he couldn't do anything unless it was on. about a month after, the light came on again and I called to schedule an appointment again. The man I talked to told me to take it in to O'Reilly or AutoZone to have them run a diagnostics check on it to see what it was. While this made sense and was a free service provided by them, I was a little miffed to be dismissed like that. I was going to go to AutoZone later that day, but the check engine light turned off once again. Not long after that, on my way home from spending time with my friends, my car made a loud bang and from that point wouldn't accelerate until it got up to about 4000 RPMs and the check engine light was flashing. I was almost home, so I kept going. When I got home I called a tow and had it taken in. They told me it was my catalytic converter and my O2 sensors. The O2 sensors they could cover under warranty, but not the CAT. So I had to pay a dandy $200 to get that fixed. They didn't get a chance to fix the O2 sensors because they wanted me to have a car for the weekend, which was actually really kind and thoughtful of them. TWO WEEKS later... yes you read that right... TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. So I had it towed in again, obviously. When they finally got back to me, they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. I explained exactly what happened. I told them that I wanted them to replace the O2 sensors since that didn't get completed last time, and I asked them to check the spark plugs. I was told that wouldn't be covered under warranty unless the check engine light came on for it. I told the gentleman that I spoke to that I read online that a bad O2 sensor can sometimes destroy the spark plugs, basically refusing to take no for an answer. So, they fixed all of that and I was pleased. I picked up my car and HALF WAY HOME the check engine light came on again. I took it to an O'Reilly's immediately and the problem detected was, get this, the catalytic converter. I have heard from multiple people that this is because of the replaced O2 sensors, that sometimes the computer needs reset, so I'm not entirely worried about that. However, you'd think TRAINED mechanics would know that and would reset the car's computer after replacing the O2s. read more
