He seems to be too busy or perhaps not very committed to taking on new projects.

I fired Matt G. (Cal Pro Contractors) and his team after they screwed up 2 of the showers that they…read moredid for us. I hired a different contractor to fix and finish the 2nd shower and do the 3rd shower. Matt and his team ended up costing me more money and a much longer timeline to finish remodeling 3 showers in the end. Here's why: 1) Matt, the project manager was not around to supervise his team's work. Matt went on vacation for the first few days of work. His team was not briefed on the work that needed to be done. I had to go over the project with his team and buy materials like the shower niche that Matt was supposed to provide. Later, I learned very quickly that Matt didn't do any of the hands-on work. His team did all the work. He was supposed to supervise the work to make sure it was done correctly and help resolve any problems that might come up. He turned out to be more of a ghost project manager. He would appear and disappear at our house after a quick look at the shower work. Didn't let me know when he was coming or going. 2) Subcontractors: Matt uses subcontractors. They are always in a hurry to do the job so they can move on to the next job quickly. They don't take time to do quality work. 3) Does not guarantee quality work: When things go wrong, they don't want to fix it to make sure things are properly done. 4) Poor customer service: Matt does not want to hear when things are going wrong and when problems are brought up to him, he gets angry and does not address and appease the customer's concerns. He leaves trash and shower debris next to house all during the project rather than clean up mess each week. 5) Excuses rather than solutions: Matt had more excuses than solutions in dealing with the poor quality work that his team did. 6) They wasted too much tile. I had to order more boxes of tile. I found good tiles in the trash bin that could have been used in other parts of the shower. 7) Some of their tiling work was bad and not in alignment (see photos). 8) Niche installed was not centered correctly. Matt told us we wouldn't notice it once it was tiled. 9) Shower cartridge was installed incorrectly. They had to remove the newly installed tile and HardieBacker wallboard to get to the shower cartridge. They did not read the instructions and placed the cartridge too far forward and cut the valve stems to close. They had to order new stems which delayed the shower's completion. 10) One of the showers did not drain properly. The bigger upstairs shower (29 X 58 inch floor) proved to be an even bigger nightmare. A 3 X 2-foot puddle of water remained at the bottom of the shower floor after a water test was done (see photos). Matt said, not to worry, that puddling would be fixed when they tiled the floor. Well, tiling the floor didn't fix the problem. The 3 X 2 foot puddle showed up again after we ran the shower. The puddle would take about 2 days to evaporate and be absorbed into the grouted floor. I pointed out this glaring problem to Matt when he eventually inspected the shower in person. He told me that puddling of water on a shower floor was not unusual and that this puddle met industry acceptable standards (he said that a lot about his other sloppy work). I pointed out that didn't sound right, that the floor could be damaged by standing water and it could be a slipping hazard. He looked me straight in the eyes and said with a straight face, that I COULD USE A SQUEEGEE TO REMOVE THE PUDDLE OF WATER. I thought he was kidding. From my research, there should never be a left-over shower puddle. The shower floor should fully drain within 15 minutes or less. After consulting with other tile and shower experts, I told Matt that the floor would have to be demolished, fixed and retiled. Matt's professional response, "You don't expect me to pay for this repair?" If Matt was a good businessman and stood by his work, he would have guaranteed his team's work and absorb all the costs for his team's screw ups. But he didn't, so I offered to pay for the extra tiles if his guys redo the cement floor. They tried again and messed up the shower floor a second time. I got more excuses from Matt, so I ended up firing him and his team. Eventually, thankfully, a family member visiting from another country for the holidays who is a professional tiler fixed the floor. No puddles and no need for a squeegee! Otherwise, we were quoted $4-6K by other contractors to fix it. If that had happened, we would have taken Matt to court. My rating of 1 is very generous considering all the problems, excuses, stress, extra costs and time this project cost us. Matt and his team should stay away from doing shower remodels because they do a very poor job. I wish I had hired an outside inspector to review Matt's work and let me know if they were doing things wrong. It's a hard lesson to learn. We did eventually have the third shower redone by another contractor. The shower came out great with no excuses or added costs...or a squeegee.

Thus, what Danny and his team accomplished was no small feat, especially given the various logistical complications related to the pandemic at that time. They really listened to our needs, provided sound and candid advice, and then respected and implemented the decisions we made about the work we wanted done. Vinny was the contractor who came out and presented us with the estimate. Vinny was very professional and has a great personality. He went over all the details with us and helped us with or choices of tiles for the shower and floor. He also handled getting the permits. He started the job when he said he would and had two excellent workers (Alex & Fernando) who arrived every morning at 8am and many times stayed until past 6 pm. They completed the job on schedule and my wife, and I really like the end product. I highly recommend Lavid Construction, especially if Vinny is in charge of the project. We had bought a house 5 years back that was in in a bad state of repair. We had to get a lot of work done to make it habitable. For the first 2 years, we went through contractor after contractor whose work was shoddy to say the least. Finally 3 years back we found Vinnie first for a couple of minor jobs. Before long we were calling him for every project. By this time we had confidence in Vinnie's work and also on how easy honest and pleasant he is to deal with. Then we needed more space for storage, more living space and a home gym. We decided to do a major garage renovation project, that would convert the garage into a livable space. I wish I had pictures of the garage before so you could compare. We decided to givethe project to Vinnie without even considering a second option. He first finished the floor, the ceiling with recessed lighting and the closets that hide the furnace and closet that hides the whole house water filter. You can see the first pictures from 2023. Next came the most beautiful part of the project. He hand built and installed custom floor to ceiling closets with heavy duty sliding drawers. Each drawer can handle upto 250lbs. Each closet is unique in how it is arranged. From storing tools, to clothes (my wife's clothes) after she ran out of space in the walk in closet. Truthfully I have never seen anything like this in any house. It totally blows away anything I have ever seen. Now we look at quality, 2 years after we started using the closet not one item has gone out of alignment or needed to be readjusted in any way. Everything is exactly as he built it. May God bless Vinnie and his family, and I wish him every success in his endeavors. My wife now considers him to be the son we never had. She will not even consider any other contractor.

Dan, Sterling, and Phil are amazing. I called them for a partial remodel of a 1950s kitchen - new…read morecounters, tile backsplash, swapping my refrigerator and stove locations, installing a range hood and exhaust, and lowering part of the wall to put a counter in. My previous contractor had disappeared after demo (no calls, no texts for over a month, left their tools behind). Dan put together a detailed estimate and took the time to explain and talk through different options for the things that needed to be done. Throughout the project, he was prompt, communicative, and fair. Sterling and Phil came in and tackled all the quirks of a 100 year old house with experience and humor. When there were additional challenges (previous homeowner had screwed sheetrock over plaster in some places so the walls and ceiling were uneven, counters were not square or level, filled mismatched molding joints with putty) - they took the time to fix the old work and redo it correctly. They worked efficiently, paid attention to detail, and everything turned out beautifully. All three were professional, kind, and respectful throughout. I will definitely call on them in the future.

Workers come on time and work hard to finish the project, also they pay attention to most of the details. Several things that made me took off 1 star: 1. The window Dan asked me to purchase is different style than all my other windows and not sure why it took the team to install 1 window per day! 2. There are 2 times that I tried to provide concern or feedback on the project and Dan yelled at me in a disrespectful manner, basically he told me to step out of his way and he had the right to do whatever he want because he runs the project. This made me pretty unhappy and felt disrespected as a homeowner. His office manager is much nicer to talk to and maybe she communicated with Dan and it did not happen again. I would give 3.5 stars if Yelp allows, the overall experience is good except for some frustrating moments.

I'm across the street from the customer. I'm writing it because it's the 3rd major construction project in this immediate area in the last several years, one more to go. Three of the four were/are about a year-and-a-half long. I'm writing because I've discovered that there can be significant differences from one construction company to the next when it comes to neighborhood relations. Hire these guys! They don't abuse the work-hour limits set by the city (Albany) like the others, who would often start early or run a long time after they were supposed to quit in the evening. They ease up on weekends out of regard for the neighborhood and often don't work on Sunday at all. The break from construction activity is very welcome. But even in that area, (construction noise) they're better than the rest. I thought they seemed quieter than the others and out of curiosity asked a supervisor, thinking I was just imagining it. Turns out it's deliberate. For instance, how many guys are 'hammering' at the same time, time of day, day of week. They try to intelligently decrease the noise they create as much as they can, as appropriately as they can. They also try to be considerate about parking. They know there's an area a half-block away with parking not in front of anyone's door. They seem to pick up on the difference between an empty parking space that's due to a car being gone all day (to a day job), from an empty space that is used by someone who's based at home all day and empty only because the person is off on an errand for a couple hours. In the latter case they try to limit using that space to once a week. If you're planning a construction project there's no getting away from the fact that it's going to be intrusive to your neighbors noise-wise and parking-wise. They won't be thrilled to have the disruption. How refreshing that this company (A M Construction in Antioch) acts like they realize that too, and try to be considerate when they can. If you care about the effect your plans will have on your neighbors, hire these guys! (Bonus: there's kind of a nice vibe coming off this group. They seem to like each other and enjoy working together.) P.S. I read the other customer reviews for the first time after writing the above. I'm not surprised by what I read. In summary, the floor work, electrical, plumbing, fridge water line, lighting, demolition, backsplash install, appliance installs, texturing, and painting were done professionally with care. They treated our home with care and communicated scheduling very clearly. We had previously hired his team for 3 bathroom remodels and do not regret asking them to help with our kitchen. A team with integrity, honestly, and professionalism is often hard to find in the industry . He and his team demonstrated this throughout the project.

We had hired Steve at Snyder Remodeling & Home Repair for a home project for various small repairs…read morethrough out outside of our house. The job originally quoted for half day by both Steve and his worker. After Steve discussed with his worker, he took off and his worker took off several times during the repair because he needed to get the materials for the project then later needed to go back to shop to do a return, so on and so forth. So half day became one day but his worker still was not able to finish it, subsequently he had to come back for another half day to finish the project. We were really disturbed by his worker's performance because the job was just finished adequately. The biggest surprise for us is to discover few weeks later because his worker was hammering too forcefully when he was replacing part of the outside window wood frame due to dry rot damage, he cracked the inside window walls on both sides of the window (see pictures). We reached out to Steve and he stated it's cosmetic but did not offer to come back to repair it, so we even offered to pay him to get it repaired. Finally he sent the same worker who worked on the repair previously, when I asked him to wear shoe covers inside the house, he stated he had none, then he called Steve who told me over the phone again they don't have shoe covers and offered to use tarp on the floor instead which I agreed. However when Steve came, he entered the house without shoe covers and walked all over the front entrance and dinning room floor, I was so amazed and told him that I would put the tarp down instead of him walking all over my floor with his shoes on, he got upset and walked right out. I went out side and tried to reason with him also explained to him if his worker did not crack our inside window walls, we actually would not need this repair, he again said that I would not let him put down the tarp, I said again that he was walking with is shoes on my floor which I was trying to prevent, and told him again if i can put the tarp down myself. He got even more upset then yelled at me "I am done!" and took off with his worker!! Later we reached out to him, he just ignored us. This is really a disturbing experience for us which we utilized several other people from YELP with great results, and we thought that a small home project would not create so much hassles and lingering damage that needs another repair.
