On the downside, some basic soldering parts weren't available and had to be substituted, and the torch he used seemed worn out and in need of an upgrade. I would have given 5 stars, but the price ($600) felt a bit high for a one-hour job, even in one of the most expensive areas of the Bay. I know that people around here pay $700 for something as simple as replacing a showerhead, which makes it hard to argue for what I believe would be a fair price (around $300 for this type of work). So the customer service was good- a 5 star for this! Now where I had the problem was first, "Discount" in the name of the company is a misnomer. It is smart of them to use that in their business name, but then I expect it to be so. I felt the estimates I received were way out there. I diagnosed my mom's hot water cartridge/valve needed to be replaced which was correct and I know it is not hard and wouldn't take long. We got about 581.00 estimate for this. Then for a running toilet ( which we fix mine all the time and the part is not much and quick to fix- but this was my mom's house and I live far away) another 400-500.! I replaced a whole toilet for less! So I knew this sounded wrong, especially since I have experience as a property manager and deal with issues like this all the time. So I called other plumbers and found one that did it for like 1/3 of the estimate they gave! People assume you have a house in a nice neighborhood and there is an elderly 86 yo woman that doesn't know anything so many companies try to overcharge you. That is why I take care of my mom's repairs to protect her. This company was good in all other aspects except the price of the repair was just too much for us. If money was not a concern, then fine I'm sure they would be good as they responded well, but these days it is a concern and strain especially for the elderly living on social security. And for me, price is an important consideration! So hope this helps people who are tight on a budget. The 2 star rating was for overall to show consideration of the actual estimate in terms of not a discount and no work was done. Also 50.00 coupon on Yelp still would not have been a big enough discount to match the competitor's much lower estimate overall. read more

Discount Plumbing first reached out to me through Yelp when I put in a request for a clogged drain removal. The reviews looked good, but I wanted to get quotes from a few different spots to compare pricing. I asked if I could get a quote for a standard drain clearing, and they consistently said they "had to have a plumber come in to take a look before they could give any type of estimate", which was pretty inconvenient since the next appointment was a few days out and we were in a dire situation. They just didn't show up for the first appointment, I rescheduled for the next day, and they couldn't show up AGAIN. So I reschedule another time, just for a plumber to take 1 look and then give me the standard rate for a drain clearing of $425?! Insane price, and I had to stay home to wait for them to ghost me. Each appointment was a 2 hour window. I ended up finding a handyman to do the job for $120 amazingly. I got a $175 quote from another plumber through yelp. So I wouldn't recommend for a drain clearing service! They did have very responsive customer service though. read more
