The work was a two day process from cleaning out the existing insulation from the attic and adjusting the ductwork, to sanitizing and air sealing all the cracks inside and outside, and filling with R-49 insulation. From the entrance of the house to the attic access, they spent the time putting down a barrier to prevent any mess to the rest of the house. But even after cleaning it out, the smell wasn't going away. Then the vent started giving off either smoke or steam, and in a panic I immediately turned off the dryer. Thank God I didn't start a dryer fire. The second I shut it off and made sure everything was ok, I opened Yelp and searched for a dryer vent cleaner. Chris's Insulation came up, he had great ratings, he was super close by, so after calling a different service and going to voicemail, I called Chris. Chris picked up after the second ring. When I told him that I needed someone to clean our dryer vent and what had happened, he said he could come out either between 5:00 and 6:00 pm that evening or the next day. It was already mid-afternoon when I called, so I was surprised to hear him say he could still come out same-day, but I decided to have him do that since I was free and also still a little shaky following what happened with the vent either smoking or steaming. I texted back that I was not at home. As I was pulling into my driveway, I saw a truck loaded with work materials pull up and stop across my driveway. I got out of the car and came into the house. Once inside, I did a quick task and went back to the front door to close and lock all the doors. As I Iooked outside, I saw the same truck parked across the street. The guy got out of the truck, walked up my stairs and rung my door bell. I do not know if he was drunk or high but there he was. His excuse was that he has something happen with his child.
