This "famous key lime pie" is 4/10. Key lime flavor is weak, pie is too thin, the FAKE whipped cream is waaaayy too much - enough to cover the pie in a thick layer. It tastes Industrial, like convention food which explains the nasty whipped cream. Also, the pie filling itself is too stiff; it should just barely hold a shape, but this one is gelatinous like jello so they add too much gelatin/pectin. I saw them making cookies, but not sure the pies are made there anymore. This looks, feels and tastes like like convention buffet food. I'm guessing they use a co-packer facility which delivers the border-line frozen pies 1-2 a week. The orange cookies were great, but not going back since the pies leave MUCH to be desired. read more

So yeah, don't go on Mondays, but otherwise this is a great place to get some pies, especially their famous key lime pie. Local place just found out between Palm Harbor and Tarpon Spring. Pie pie, all pie, sweet desert. The place is clean. Cake is good and super good price. Well lucky for me, we were in the area of this place. I quickly forgot about the festival which probably was hot outside, long lines, pricey and not as good! J J Gandy's has been around for at least 30 years and they have pies, sweets, and breads galore. They are local too and if u have local key lime pies, you may be tasting it from here. This place is incredible! This is the best key lime pie I have ever had! Perfect graham cracker crust, perfectly tart, and the homemade whipped cream is so creamy and delicious it balances out the tartness. At long last I got my hands on one of JJ Gandy's famous key lime pies. For $6 I got a six-inch, pale yellow pie with a heap of whipped cream piled around the edges and plopped in the middle. I dug my fork into the edge of the pie, anticipating the feel of sweet and sour citrus cream against a thick, crisp wall of crust. It wasn't quite like that. What actually happened was an overwhelming poof of whipped cream and a flimsy crust that wrapped around a luscious limey filling. I tried a second bite without the whipped cream. Much better. The crust in the middle of the pie was crisper, but still thinner than I prefer. The cream was rich. In my life of pie I've noticed two schools of flavor for pies like cheesecake and key lime. There's rich, sweet cream filling and there's the kind with -- for lack of a better description -- a slight sourdough aftertaste. This pie falls into the second category, making it miss the mark of my kind of pie. I can't say I'd buy it again but, in all, it tasted decent enough for me to want to return to try Gandy's other sweet treats. read more

A traditional graham cracker crust, relatively thin and not hard, a rich lime filling and a cream topping. It was delicious!! We tried 6 that came recommended from FB and the interwebs, and J. J. Gandy's came out the clear winner! Nice texture with the perfect tartness without being sour or bitter. I also loved that the pies come in different sizes. Since we only had 4 people, we didn't need a regular full-size pie, so the medium was prefect for us. The location itself is very unassuming. Hands down this place has the best key lime pie anywhere. What most people don't know is they also bake incredible custom cakes. The prices for the cakes are about what you would pay at your local grocery store. For my birthday, my wife had a pirate cake made with key lime filling and a mini key lime pie on top. My daughter went in to order her sweet sixteen cake. It was like an episode of cake boss. She wanted triangles suspended in mid-air. They were so patient trying to accommodate her while applying the laws of physics.
