I have never once been compelled to write a review for a restaurant. This place has changed that. The food is beyond amazing. I have eaten at over 50 Greek/Mediterranean restaurants and not one comes close to this. The food is fresh, flavorful and the portion size is awesome. The owners of the restaurant are really kind and you can tell they genuinely care about the customer experience and put a ton of effort into making sure the food is delicious and authentic. After eating here it will be very difficult to enjoy any other greek restaurants. I enjoy trying new places but this is definitely going to be somewhere I will frequently visit. read more

After passing by so many times I finally gave in and decided to stop. I was beyond amazed at how clean the kitchen and seating area was. Quite literally spotless. The food was amazing. I have no complaints. We got the chicken souvlaki plate and WOW ! The chicken was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The tzatziki and salad were fresh! The last time I was here was 17 years ago! Parking was easy peasy and a big consideration between coming here or the other Greek restaurant on Hillcrest. I was on a hunt for large salads, something I can really feel full on. J&k really hit the spot. One salad was enough to feed two mediumly hungry adults and have leftovers. The service was friendly and helpful. We came on a sell out Saturday right before closing so our selections were limited, even so their salad was freshly chopped and veggies were crispy. They were apologetic about not having enough croutons but made up for it with extra pita with their spicy feta dip. Their spicy feta dip was salty but not spicy. Wow some of the best Mediterranean food I've had in awhile. My husband and I both ordered the gyro plate which comes with gyro meat, rice pilaf, tzatziki, pita, and a small salad. The rice pilaf and gyro were so flavorful and not dry at all! The pita was nice and fluffy and the tzatziki had nice depth. Service was prompt and the two ladies in front were very friendly and seemed to have regulars. There is no AC, but it wasn't too uncomfortable. I would recommend trying their allepo chili oil. I also ordered a side of kale feta, which reminded me of collard greens because the presentation was similar but this kale dish was like no other! You'll also be impressed by the service. First let me say that I frequented 'Greek Town' in Detroit for over 20 years and I'm familiar with authentic Greek food. Top two requirements on my list for any good restaurant is the taste and quality of the food - and this restaurant knocks that out of the park. Casual dining process where you pay at the front and then sit down. They bring you your food and you get your own utensils. The seating area is cozy, better for smaller parties. The staff is friendly and kind and I overheard them say they are under new management/ownership. And, once again, I must add how ABSOLUTELY delicious it is. They are not afraid of seasoning and they know how to use it. The meat is moist, the rice full of flavor, salad crunchy and fresh, and the baklava to die for. I'm a greek salad LOVER, and my expectations were low going into this place (I went to JKs when it was run by the previous owner, and the greek salad was less than mediocre). We ordered takeout - chicken souvlaki gyro, lemon potatoes, Greek salad, and the pastitsio - they were out of the pastitsio which was a bummer, but they replaced it with the beef dolmades. Everything was excellent. Seriously, 10/10, no notes. My favorite was the souvlaki gyro. I have to go back to try the pastitsio, it looks amazing. I came for a late lunch after a long hike. I would give 6 stars if I could. Everything we tried was absolutely amazing starting with the best.. by far.. spanakopita I have ever had .. perfect texture perfectly spiced and seasoned ..then the stuffed grape leaves.. also delicious stuffed with rice and spiced beef served with a delicious egg lemon sauce... then a very nice little salad.. also perfect dressing.. the main was half a chicken perfectly cooked generously portioned served with lemony potatoes .. simple and perfect execution. The food at J-K's is simple but done perfectly. Every bite is bright and flavorful. Trust me, just try their rice pilaf and you'll see what I mean. It's cooked perfectly and seasoned well. But wow, the new owners, Liza and Brook, have completely transformed the experience from start to finish. Their hospitality feels like family... honestly, even better. Firstly the prices on yelp do not match the ones in store. Their chicken salad (which is what I really wanted) ended up being 21$ so I got this instead. $18!!!! They looked suspiciously like the grilled chicken skewers from Costco but it looked nothing like the pictures provided on yelp. They also do not take Apple Pay or tap which isn't a big deal but could've been! The ladies working the grill and counter were nice and the food was decent. The only actual Greek-owned restaurant serving real Greek food that I've found in the San Diego area. The food is so so yummy, and you can tell they put their heart into the food they make. You walk in and you can tell they're cooking real Greek recipes from the smell. The gyro meat tastes so good and different from other generic gyro meat you'd get elsewhere. I love how lemony their potatoes are. The beef dolmas they sometimes have are also so good. The tzatziki is perfect. Just so many good things about this place!
