Drinks: 9/10 I tried the French 76 and the Blood Orange Margarita. Both were delicious and a little on the stronger side, which is exactly how I like my drinks. Appetizers: 8/10 I ordered the fried pickles and the brisket nachos. The fried pickles were good, but nothing particularly memorable. The brisket nachos, however, were excellent! They were flavorful, generously portioned, and something I would definitely order again. Entrée: 5/10 I had the Fish & Chips. Unfortunately, the fish wasn't consistently crispy and lacked seasoning and flavor. It was the most disappointing part of the meal. Looks like this place has a real Happy Hour cheers vibe, complete with plenty of regular characters. We love a good Happy Hour, so we grabbed a hightop by the bar and ordered a couple of drinks. I got the cosmo, complete with tiny ice crystals on top, which is my favorite. We started with the spinach dip, served Hillystone style with salsa and sour cream. I was not expecting much, but wow, it was really good. Then we split the special sandwich of the night, a sweet and spicy ribeye sandwich. This one was not my favorite. It had too much bread and too many green peppers, which I am not a fan of, although my husband liked it... Like the song says, two out of three ain't bad, and we will definitely be back. Nostalgia brought us back to J Macklin's in Coppell and I am so glad that it did! I had my usual kale salad with salmon and almond crusted goat cheese patty and it was just like I remembered. I'm thinking next time I will ask for a side of extra dressing so I can get all dippy with the items in my salad. We started with the spinach artichoke dip. I have to say, the crispy tortilla chip topped with a dollop of dip with a smidge of salsa and sour cream makes the most delicious bite! Hubby had the half Cobb salad with grilled chicken and a bowl of tomato basil soup. He probably could have had a cup because the bowl was a very generous portion. We had passed this restaurant SO many times. I finally convinced my husband to stop for dinner one evening. And man were they packed. It was about 7pm on a Friday night and the wait was about 30 minutes- please note there is not much of a waiting area. Had we waited until 7:30pm it seemed to clear out quickly. However, they were running out of EVERYTHING. And it was a Friday night- so I mean come on- since they were open until 10pm what would someone who came later than us have to choose from? We tried to order the spinach artichoke dip- sold out. So we got the brisket nachos- they were flavorful, but the chips were too thin and kept snapping once they got too heavy or soggy from the cheese. But they tasted good.... My husband got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans as his entrée. The steak was incrediblyyy fatty. I know they ran out of mashed potatoes not long after we got our food because I heard the server tell the table next to us- how do you run out of mashed potatoes?!? I got the grilled cheese with the tomato soup, and fries. I honestly could not complain, it was pretty good. It just seems there is room for improvement. We stopped by on the weekend it was freezing. I wanted to try it since it seemed like a local favorite. On our first visit, we had Queso with Chips. It was delicious. We also had The Goat Cheese Salad. I have never had a Goat Cheese Patty but it was perfect on top of the lighter salad. For Entrees, we had the Shrimp and Grits and The Turkey Sandwich. It was so tasty we decided to come back again. On our second visit, we decided to have the Goat Cheese Salad again. We had more people in our party this time. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak which was perfect. Also had the Brunch Enchiladas Verdes. They kicked up the spice with extra chiles. We also had The French Dip. The atmosphere is very casual with quite a few locals coming by. We had great service with Alberto. He is quite the personality. The food was quite tasty. Really really tuff. I go here with my family and my friends, and both the breakfast menu and the dinner menu are really good.

There aren't a lot of options in Coppell, and while J. Macklin's was never 5-star, it was at least a solid family dinner option. That's no longer the case. Prices have steadily climbed upwards, which given the general economy, I understand. But somehow, quality has dipped and service has eroded significantly, so I'm not sure where my money is going. The quality of food has dropped as well, to the point that I might as well go to a Chili's. I don't know if the owner took his eyes of the ball as he's been figuring out San Daniele, but I don't see the point of returning to this restaurant. It's the middle gas option between Chili's and Victor's, which means you're somehow getting the worst of value and taste. read more

We have been going to "J. Mack's" for weekend brunch for many years. I almost always ordered the Boon Fly Benny's (eggs benedict with a spicy sauce.) We went back this morning for Easter brunch and were surprised with a brand new menu that the restaurant rolled out just yesterday. Poor timing and it is a VERY scaled down menu with staff being instructed to not make any substitutions. Nevertheless, the Boon Fly Benny's and so many other options have been wiped from the menu with a few new options that did not seem particularly appetizing. Disappointed, I ordered some breakfast tacos think at least they would be safe. I was wrong. The menu mentioned nothing about any greens in the tacos, but there were some unexpected microgreens. Additionally, they used store bought tortillas and they cooked the tortillas unevenly where one side was stiff as a board and damn near impossible to chew. Both the taste and texture of the breakfast tacos were off so I sent them back and settled for the bacon board and some fruit. My wife has severe food allergies and ordered egg whites, chicken sausage, and of green peppers without onions. The kitchen sent out red and yellow peppers with onions that were sent back. At the end of our meal, the green peppers showed up but there was sausage in there with them from who knows what source, so they went back again. The only reason we did not give this visit ONE STAR is because the service and waitstaff were nice and understanding. After paying the bill, we tipped them $20 for their troubles and left, vowing to never return. This is sad as J. Mack's has been a staple for us in the past but this new direction is something we just cannot support. If you do go, I sincerely hope you have a better experience than we did. Stopped in and grabbed a spot at the bar to have dinner and watch the World Series game. Breanna took great care of me behind the bar and she was very busy throughout the night. The food runners were very friendly and my food arrived at a very reasonable amount of time. I'm started with the Ahi Tuna Tar Tar appetizer and it was just average. The "crispy" wontons were pretty soft and almost stale, which was a bummer. The tuna tasted fresh and the coleslaw/cucumbers were refreshing but seemed like a somewhat cheap attempt at a nice dish. My Steak Frites with Parmesan Fries came out a few minutes after they cleared my dirty plate, which was perfect. A lot of places don't time this right when trying to eat dinner alone and you end up with multiple dishes in front of you at once, so I really appreciated this. The steak was cooked correctly and I enjoyed the herb butter melted on top. The fries were delicious and just how I prefer them, skinny/crispy! The aioli sauce on the side was a perfect addition to both the steak and fries. The quality of the meat seemed to maybe be subpar but for the price, it's tough to complain. Overall, it seemed like the staff all loved working together and they knew so many regular customers, which was cool to see. While the food quality might not be the highest like a fancy restaurant, the more than reasonable prices make up for it. read more

Bad food, bad service, high prices, poor quality food .. We got the brisket tacos ($16), cajun shrimp + avocado($20), and the parmesan truffle fries. The brisket was super dry and the taco itself was even more dry. It came with a side of corn that was made from frozen corn and was tasteless, too. The cajun shrimp + avocado dish barely had any avocado in it and it also came on a bed of tasteless frozen corn. The parmesan fries were the best thing we ordered but they came out room temperature. Our server didn't come to our table until 15+ minutes after we were seated. Another server was busy chit chatting with his friends and kept his table waiting for long periods at a time because he was distracted. The ambience was pretty nice but all the other downsides are definitely going to keep us from coming back here unless there is a family gathering or birthday we are invited to. last night the bar tender at this place took advantage of us. As we wrapping up and paying our bill I gave the lady $80 cash towards our bill the total amount was only $128 and Plan to pay the rest with the card so total should have been only $48 however she didn't include the cash instead she took the cash and still charge us with the full amount Plus my husband still give her tip on top of that. She know the cAsh wasn't a TIP and she then walk away and I realized the mistake that she just did. I told my husband did if he paid the full amount on the card but I told him no I gave her cash towards the bill. i feel like we got SCAM! J Mack is within a shopping center right off Denton Tap Road. I was surprised to see that it's a few short steps from my gym as I never knew it was there. We sat in the bar area since the dining area was pretty crowded. I loved the service here. The wait sometimes took awhile but each person who came in contact with us was very friendly. We ordered the Hip Chips and the Truffle fries since we didn't know what we wanted to share. The hip chips are basically potato chips made in house tossed with a light sprinkling of parmesean and served with Tabasco based ketchup. They were pretty good although the truffle fries were the best out of the two for me. For entrees, I ordered the Turkey burger and my friend ordered the Cajun shrimp pasta special. He said it was very good. My Turkey burger was great. I love grilled onions so the onions along with the other fixins made for a delightful taste. I do feel there could be more variety on the menu including vegetarian options. It was a little hard for me to choose what to eat because most menu items seemed fried or beef based. Stopped in on a Wednesday evening and were seated quickly. Food looked good but was mediocre at best. I had the Atlantic Salmon that looked to be pan fried. It was overdone and a medium size portion. Carrots were harder than al dente. My wife had the Skillet Chicken which I tasted. heavily herbed breading and it was overdone. She also ordered a small Caesar Salad that came after her entree was delivered. That's a simple delivery process that should never happen. This is a place that I've driven past for years without stopping. I am happy that I started visiting this place because the food is superb. I recommend sitting at the patio especially at night when there's live music. The steak frites was the wrong temperature due to a mix up with the kitchen, but I've ordered takeout from here a few times and every takeout order has been accurate. This was my first in person experience. The skillet chicken is light and flavorful, highly recommend! I'd pass on the lobster tacos which are fairly small lobster pieces. There's a decent amount of tv screens if there's a game on that you can't miss. Last thing is the staff is hospitable. I've seen this place packed and they handle each customer with ease.
