The experience was outstanding from start to finish. What really set this company apart is that they actually performed proper Manual J load calculations to size the system--something almost no other contractor I contacted was willing to do (load calculations are code required by the way). Every other quote I received assumed a system size based purely on square footage and would have resulted in a dramatically oversized system. Instead, this team took the time to measure, assess, and design a system tailored specifically to my home's demand. They even performed a blower door test to quantify air leakage--another thing no one else offered. As a result, I ended up with a 2.5-ton heat pump. Meanwhile, all other companies wanted to replace what was there (4-ton) or go even higher (5-ton). One company wanted to put in a 100k BTU furnace which is absurd. Their design work was thoughtful and meticulous. The Manual J and Manual S calculations they did ensured that the system was sized properly including duct sizes and lengths. They showed attention to detail with locating and aiming registers to reduce duct lengths (less energy loss due to being in the unconditioned attic) and to improve comfort (limiting air blowing on you in bed). They also took care to locate the ducts so they can bury them in the future attic insulation as much as possible. The on-site crew was excellent--friendly, respectful, and professional every day. They kept the workspace clean, coordinated work around my partner's daytime sleep schedule, and were incredibly flexible with scheduling overall. I've had to push back adding attic insulation multiple times so I can do a few attic projects first, and they've never complained or made it an issue (I still am not ready and they are fine with it). The resulting system has been working great since they installed the heat pump and air sealed in May. The system is basically silent and my house has been quite comfortable. I'm pretty sure the system has been more efficient than my old furnace based on my energy monitoring system that measures current to the unit and PG&E bills from last year, and this is without attic insulation. Regarding cost, you would think that EPB would be significantly more expensive especially considering they will do the proper design work. However, I got a few quotes additional quotes and EPB actually end up significantly cheaper than all other companies that didn't include any real design work! In short, this is the only company I found that actually does things the right way, prioritizing proper design and customer satisfaction. I thought this would hurt the bank but it didn't. I'm extremely happy with the results and would recommend them without hesitation.

I hired this company to do the work on my house that was recommended in a home energy assessment…read morecompleted last year. Initially Alex Minaboo, the owner, came to look the job over and in that visit recommended replacing all the heating ducts in the house. He tried to sell me a heat pump system which I did not want to do since the existing furnace is only three years old. There was nothing in the home energy assessment report indicating I needed to replace the furnace or the ducts. A few weeks later, the foreman (I think that is his role) came by to assess the job, and said he did not think the ducts needed to be replaced as they were still quite new. I opted to not replace the ducts but to proceed with the air sealing of the heating system that was recommended in the home energy assessment. Alex later said the air sealing could cause a problem for the furnace, which he said was too large for this size house. He suggested that adding an additional heat register might mitigate a potential problem with rapid cycling, and I opted to do this. In the course of All Things Good sealing the heating ducts and adding the new register, the blower on the furnace stopped working. Alex deflected and denied responsibility for his company causing the problem, disparaged another company that had installed the furnace, and argued that his company could not be held responsible for damages when something breaks in an old house while they are working on it, referring me to a clause in their contract. To fix the furnace, All Things Good charged $1200.00 in labor costs (for a job that took no more than 2 hours on site) and the blower was about $700 more). I have always thought "if you break it, you fix it" and I was floored by how this was being handled, but since I do not know HVAC systems and could not in good conscience argue that I was certain the breakdown was caused by their work, I proposed we split the bill for fixing the furnace. My offer was refused. Alex then had the gall to argue he was already giving me a discount on labor costs, and threatened that if I did not pay he would put a lien on my house. I paid the bill because it was not worth my time to fight with All Things Good. I see a number of positive reviews here and at least one that is like mine. My experience was very unsatisfactory and I will certainly never use this company again.

The team was professional and fast and they went above and beyond in explaining the water heater and the app. They even installed a new light in my basement so they could complete the work, which is helpful to me as well. And then they came back and installed some additional insulation to mute the water heater noise. The office staff was also excellent and very responsive and helped me get all the rebates I was eligible for. Look no further, All Things Good is the team you need .

Their communication with me was excellent, and everyone I interacted with was extremely professional and very skilled in their respective tasks. Big thanks (!) to Joran, Sergio, Gene, David, and the other crew members whose names I didn't get. TY! I feel very comfortable recommending SDI's work - they did what they said they would do, and they did it quickly and professionally! Their estimate was competitively priced; it was neither the cheapest nor the priciest., but all things considered, SDI seemed to offer the best value for our money. I'm also very pleased with the results of the insulation! We had R15 fiberglass blown into our exterior walls, and even after just one night I can tell the house is much quieter. Today's outside temp has been in the mid-50's, which is chilly for early May, so I'm able to write this review with oddly good timing: new insulation works, lol! I'm now very eager to see what it does in the summer heat, which was our main reason for having it blown in. All in all, I am very pleased with the SDI did on our home and feel quite comfortable recommending their services to other homeowners.

They were on it. Since they have carpenters, mud and texture guys, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, you name it, They would send who needed to be here at what time to make the process as speedy as possible, showed up when they said they would and worked until the project was done! Everyone who was sent out was very friendly and respectful, also leaving my place clean when they left for the day. I would receive almost daily logs of who was here from what time to what time, reports of progress including photos and estimations of percentage of each piece that was left to do, and how close we were to the projected estimate. Everything turned out beautiful and works perfectly for what I wanted to use it for. I will definitely be calling them in the future with any and all construction needs. Thanks Good Guys!!

I hired Mark for a medium-sized remodeling project (about 6 weeks) . He provided a low estimate…read morecompared to other bids. He then said that his workers were all covered by Worker's Comp, among other benefits, and that he paid a fair wage, and that he was the most ethical contractor in the industry, resulting in his workers' being highly productive and efficient leading to shorter project times. This sealed the deal for me. Furthermore, he claimed that the extra 30% or so that he was billing for his workers, was due of the worker's comp insurance, which only he provided to his workers (as opposed to the many unscrupulous other contractors that were around). As a property owner, you could be held liable for workers' injuries if the contractor did not carry worker's comp, and so, I agreed to Mark's deal. Within a few days, Mark had exceeded the estimate he had quoted, and was very difficult to get hold of. Furthermore, his workers would come and go at all times of the day (between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm) and I simply lost track of how many "cooks" were in the kitchen. As of last count, I noticed some 15+ names on the invoices, and some would appear for a couple of hours, and then disappear. But Mark would send me invoices claiming that his workers spent the entire day at the property - which was simply untrue. Mark would not be interested in even listening to me or investigating my grievances. Instead, he would brag that he did me a big favor by accepting my project, and that he typically only did multi-million dollar gigs, and not pittances like mine. Long story short, the project budget exceeded the estimate by more than 100%. Mark became extremely aggressive and feisty, and it was impossible to work or reason with him. I hired a Private Investigator to find out who this person really was -- like a Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde. Turns out that he had been sued for fraud, but more importantly, the whole worker's comp, fairness, ethical contractor, and so on, charade, was ALL ONE BIG LIE. It also appears that Mark may have left the Better Business Bureau due to bad reviews and that he may have hired a reputation defending company to increase his Yelp reviews to 5 stars by questionable tactics. Good Guy Builders license has been suspended for Worker's Comp violations and is under investigation. After my PI reported this, I found on the CSLB site: "License is under suspension for failure to comply with Workers Comp. A workers´ compensation certificate or exemption statement may have been received by the Board but not yet processed. Once the certificate or exemption statement is processed the suspension will be lifted retroactively to the effective date of the certificate or exemption statement. Ask the contractor for proof of worker's compensation and contact the insurance company to verify coverage." Here is the URL: https://www.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=1016932 Please see image below. This is one of the greatest betrayals where I was charged an arm and a leg, and told a romantic story of workers being taken good care of, and so on, all the while, when Mark was simply pocketing the money that was supposed to cover his workers' safety and well being. Such greed, deception, and dishonesty, in my opinion, does not deserve a second chance. You decide whether you want to hire this company and deal with Mark. --- Addendum to Mr. Santosh R's note: 1. I am a real person. I was threatened by Mark that I would be sued if I posted anything negative on Yelp. 2. Yes, I did edit my posts before finally settling on one. Anyone in my position would do the same. 3. Finally, the facts remain unchanged. Good Guy Builder's license is under suspension and this may be independently verified on the CSLB website (see link). Likewise, the lawsuits against them may be independently verified. People like Santosh and Mark are the real culprits who boost their yelp ratings in a manner that skews it in their favor - by attacking anyone who posts negative reviews, and threatening those in dispute with defamation lawsuits. Do not believe anything Santosh or Mark say. The suspension is more than ample evidence that Good Guy Builders is a crooked business and not one that you should be patronizing.
