I don't understand the hype about this place. I came here for my very first Brazilian. The woman who was waxing me was nice enough, but whenever I said anything to her, she just told me she doesn't speak English. I guess that's fine, but definitely made my experience even more awkward, being a first-timer and all. It seemed like she was rushing through the whole thing. At the end when I got my clothing back on, she and another employee almost knocked me over when I was exiting the room trying to get back in to prepare for the next customer. Geesh! It's not like I was taking forever, and I wasn't late for my appt. On my walk home, I noticed that my jeans were sticking to my leg near my lower-calf/shin area. I later found that there was a ton of wax all over that part of my leg. Apparently when she was going back and forth from dipping into the wax pot (not sure the technical term), she dripped wax on my leg repeatedly and failed to clean it off (and there's no way she didn't notice!). The most I can say is that she did do a thorough job with the actual waxing and I had minimal irritation afterward. But for those prices and after my not-so-great experience, I don't plan on returning. read more

Ok - so waxing the delicate areas are probably the least anticipated moments of my life. But I have to admit J. Sisters makes it comfortable and that is hard when you are lying there with your legs in the air. They never fail at the perfect wax, especially in the Baby Girl area. You come out clean, confident and sexy. They even do letters, yes ladies, letters. Though I had a not so good experience as I asked for a D and they gave me a B - so annunciate ladies. i've been going to J Sisters since my first brazilian back in 2001 and it will remain the only place i will ever go to for a bikini wax. i've always went with Melissa, but since she no longer works there, my last appt was with one of the sisters Jane. these ladies absolutely know what they're doing; the brazilians you get there will be fast, clean and thorough. i have always been satisfied with the outcome. because they are kind of pricey, i've tried a few other places in both nyc and jersey in hopes of finding a less expensive alternative. but TRUST me when i say this... NO ONE will do as a good of a job as J Sisters and you really do get what you pay for! the few times i've gone somewhere else i ended up either in torturous physical pain or was left dissatisfied with the result bc they're just not as thorough. read more

What can I say - I've traveled from DC for years to be seen by Jocelyn at J. Sisters. She has that magic touch. The 1st time I went, I will admit, I was so afraid. I dream the wax would get stuck in my hoo-ha and yanked out with me screaming "Dear God save me". Thankfully, that didn't happen. The first time I went to J Sisters was 6 months ago, when I decided to suck it up and get a Brazilian for the first time. I was terrified, and when my waxer, Joyce, came in and told me to lift up my legs, I felt this instinctual terror rise up within in me. Joyce literally had to wrestle with me to get my legs up and keep me from sprinting off the table. After finally getting me into position and ensuring that I would not bolt from the little waxing room, Joyce began her work, and let me tell you, it hurt like a motherf***er. I screamed and swore and felt like I was going to die, but Joyce was SO SO funny the entire time. She kept telling me things like "Don't worry, your vagina will be as beautiful as your face when I'm done." or "Ohhh yes, your boyfried will love this. Men love the p***y." So I was torn between agony and wanting to laugh at the ridiculous things coming out of Joyce's mouth. After my wax, I limped out of the room to pay my bill, and I'm pretty sure the receptionists heard my screams of terror due to the knowing smirks on their faces. They told me "Don't worry, you'll be back in a month," something which I highly doubted at the time. But after I left the salon and got over the initial shock and pain of having my pubic hair ripped out by hot wax, I discovered that I actually really liked my new look. So lo and behold, I decided to go back...and six months later, I am still coming back. Joyce is still my waxer, and she does a great job, plus she is hilarious. And the more I go, the less painful it is. The only downside is that the reception area is a little too small. And clearly, my pain tolerance is pretty low, so this will probably never be a completely pain-free experience, but I do think that J Sisters (and Joyce) make it as pleasant as possible. read more

I came here for a pedicure only, as the treatment was highly recommended by a friend who raved about the meticulous care they provide and the lasting effects of the pedicure. For $60, I hoped she was right, alas, not to be. While the service of the people working there was great and they were all very nice, I waited 25 minutes past my appointment time before anyone started my pedicure, and was actually really unimpressed by the end results. Both big toes chipped within days and less than two weeks later I've taken a file to my own feet. It was worth a shot but I won't be back. read more

It had been awhile since I did a Brazilian and I'm so glad I came here after a close-friend of mine suggested it. She was thorough, patient, and very professional. A person who enjoys personal hygiene, I believe waxing is a necessity for any gal. I was encouraged to try J Sisters during my lunch break by a coworker who insisted her waxist was fantastic. Sadly for me I didn't have her wax person, rather I had someone who, although very nice, made me need to use Tend Skin to help alleviate the ingrown hairs and post wax bumps. I was told that this must have been a fluke, that J Sisters had practically invented the art of Brazilian waxing, so I returned back to the salon, determined to rave over what even the girls in Bergdoff Blondes seemed to love. I tried to make an appointment with someone else, but alas, they changed my person and gave me the original waxist. Sigh I thought, but thinking of what everyone said about this place I gave it another go. My waxist gave me tips and advice to avoid getting bumps & in grown hairs. I wanted to inform her that I had never seen an ingrown hair on my body until she ripped the hair off my skin, but considering I was laying half naked and she had hot wax I smiled and nodded. Needless to say, the Tend Skin came back out. I stopped waxing for a few months to allow the skin to 'heal' [thankfully it was winter] & used Tend Skin everyday. I was hesitant & extremely nervous to have another Brazilian done again, and I gave up on J Sisters completely. Now when I am in need of a wax in NYC, I head over to Bliss spa. read more

My review is solely based on Celia's work on a brazillian, who I met at my second visit to J sisters. She was welcoming and allowed me to take my time getting ready for the session. She is quick and light with her hands. During the session she was attentive and made me laugh, suggesting I think of my boyfriend as she waxed. Even in those tender areas where it hurts the most, the front and down the labias, were tolerable with minimal pain. After stripping she knew coating the area with her hand alleviates the pain, she knew when and where to do it. For the first time ever, she had my spread my legs wide across with one leg behind her to get the inner areas. Again, she was professional, thorough and quick to get it done. She tweezed ingrown hairs and educated me on the proper care of the skin and how to minimize getting those pesky ingrown hairs. The price is discounted when you show your school ID, so I highly recommend it to my fellow students. If you need a brazilian and can afford it for $65 every 4/5 weeks, get it don here. read more

Best Brazilian I've ever had! The rooms are not the nicest but I can't complain when it was done in less than 5 minutes with the least amount of pain I've ever had at any other place. I go to JP and highly recommend her. She was very nice and explained the whole process to me and why I shouldn't do this and that with regards to that area for waxing. She said the trick is to use baby powder so maybe that's why it didn't hurt as much. read more

I am very, very panicky about my brows and Fatima has done such an amazing job that I don't want to see anyone else either in LA or NY. Best Pedicures in NYC! And they are not at all overpriced at $60.They last a month or more, literally. Just make sure to give yourself a lot of time - they take 90 minutes to 2 hours. But it is totally worth it. read more

I have heard great things about this place forever, so I was thrilled to finally be in the city long enough to be able to visit. I booked an eyebrow wax (did it online, very easy, no credit card required!) and came in about 15 minutes early. Jennifer welcomed me and got me started right away, and we finished right when my appointment would have started--fastest wax EVER! You get taken to a little private room that is clean like a clinic and super brightly lit (all the better to see the teeny tiny hairs with...). I have actually never been to a waxing place that used *soft* wax (rather than hard wax, the kind which you have to wait to dry and then rip off) but I'm a fan because it hurt much less and there wasn't a ton of tweezing at the end to pick up the slack. I really, really like how my brows look and I had no redness after. I liked this much better than threading. The finished brows somehow managed to look plumper and longer, and I'm very, very impressed. I will definitely be back. I love this place! PS: I know it says they're not open on Mondays on the Yelp page, but they started taking Monday appointments in September 2014 (plus, I just went to a Monday appt). read more

I've been going to J Sisters for about 10 years now, and while I've watched their prices climb, their salon expand - they're still the best at what they do. Getting an appointment is easy, and you're in and out of there in about 15 minutes. The only downside to the salon is that, even in their new building, the place is so cramped. I'm sure it's because they've become so popular, and I'm definitely used to it - but you can be left without a place to sit while you're waiting. They're still the best in the city, so after all these years I can still say it's worth it. read more

I love the JSisters salon because they understand women! I usually get my hair trimmed and blown out here (they are great with curly hair) although recently the girl who does my hair is no longer there - booo! I have tried the bikini waxing but found it to be painful and not very thorough although the ladies are super nice. Also the waxing is done in a small closet like room with no ceiling so you can hear everything from every other room. Remember to bring cash for tips but they do accept credit cards. read more

A couple of months back I went back to J sisters, and the person I saw ripped off some of my skin. It burned me for one full week, and the person did not even wait for it to stop bleeding and asked me to get dressed. I did not have any cotton swab and used a tissue to stop the bleeding. I decided never to go back to her, and it was very unprofessional of her to leave me bleeding. The week long burning was painful - a first for me at J sisters. Anyway, I decided to go to Dulce, and told her of my bad experience. I have been going to this place for several years now, so I know its not the place but the person who did my wax. Dulce took a lot of care and gave me a great wax. She made me so comfortable, and I was surprised at how little it hurt compared with my previous appointments. I could not believe that it was possible to hurt relatively less. I highly recommend going to her - she is a very nice lady and will do a fabulous job. BTW they recently moved to a new location. I have been going to J Sisters for quite some time now (over 12 years)! I live in LA and I go back to NY twice a year and ALWAYS see the sisters, as soon as I land. I have a place in LA, but no one gets up in there and leaves you feeling clean and smooth like the Sisters. Yes, they are expensive (more so than any other place) and I have been to them all. Kate Somerville in LA, Bliss and Completely Bare in NYC and NONE OF THEM COME CLOSE to doing the job the sisters do, so it is definitely worth the extra money. read more

I want to start by saying I was a regular at J Sisters when they where the only game in town. The place was massive and you could spend a day there. One of the sisters walked around with her nose up as if she ruled the world. How the mighty has fallen. Two moves later they are sharing an open loft. Two nail techs out in the open. I couldn't believe it. Ok, I've always had killer mani, pedis there so it's not about the space. Pedicure was terrible. Shape is completely different than I requested. One one point I was bleeding so bad I thought I would cry. BAD. And I though credo knives were not allowed anymore. Especially without asking. The polish job, one of the best parts of a brazilian nail treatment looks horrible. Would go for a polish change but I'm very concerned about sore my feet are where they were bleeding. I won't even discuss the poor level of customer service, because even if it were great it's not worth risking your health. Sad to say, it's over for J Sisters. read more

Horrible experience. I went here in 2010 for my very first brazilian wax. I picked the J's sisters based solely on their reputation and all the wonderful reviews they have here on Yelp. First off the staff was less than friendly, except for one of the female receptionist and the lady who did my waxing. I can tolerate unfriendly people but my worst complaint is that this place is totally UNSANITARY!!!. The lady who did my wax seemed nice enough, but then she began the waxing session without even putting on gloves. It's a brazilian wax, so you can imagine how much personal contact goes on with getting a brazilian wax, why do i have to ask you to wear gloves??! that should just be policy/common sense. So she began waxing and she definitely double dipped. I said something to her about that, and she definitely didn't do it again, but eww I have to wonder how many other clients did she use that one pot of wax on and how many other times did she double dip into that wax?. looking back on the whole experience, I probably should have just left but I was already there so I stayed. the outcome? Waxing job was horrible. Granted it was my first brazilian ever so my skin was extra sensitive but I left with areas of my skin ripped off and bleeding. i had burn scabs down there for a few days and some areas with broken hairs. not fun. Went to Shobha (SoHo) a few months later for my 2nd brazilian and never looked back. Never had a burn or bleeding skin since going to Shobha. Technician at Shobha always wear gloves and I have yet to witness any double dipping during any of my sessions here. read more

I called at 12:15 to see if they could see me and I was in the teeny tiny room by 12:45. Emily was super nice and professional. No hand holding - but still very friendly.
