My friend and I visited J3's this past Friday. I've never been, so I didn't really know what to expect. The place itself is kind of cozy. It was pretty much a full house when we showed up(around 7ish), but we still got seated pretty much right away. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure we were okay the entire night. I ordered the Red Maine bag with J3 flavor and BYB (burn your booty) spice. To be honest, it was not very spicy at all. I ordered Cajun, medium spiced crawfish and those were actually spicier than my bag, which was surprising. We also ordered a basket of fries to split. It didn't take very long for our food to come out, and it was nice and hot. Overall, the food was pretty good. It wasn't just the best seafood I've ever tasted, but I can definitely see it being a place I visit again. I can say that I feel like we got enough for what we paid. read more

The decor is darker with reds and blacks and muted browns. Our server, Wanda was pleasant and efficient, not once letting our beverages sit unfilled and not bothering us with the usual "Can I get you anything?" You get from most servers in other establishment. The food, well, the food was enjoyed most thoroughly. It had enough spice and the flavors were lovely. I hurt myself trying to stuff it all in. Normally I always try to keep it positive when patronizing resturants, but the experience I had while dinning at J3 Cajun Seafood was by far one of the worst Mother's Day dinners for my mom to date. Not only was service below the standard we never received a single refill on our beverages and it took literally over an hour and half to receive our food and it was the worst. Still wondering where the rave reviews came from because hubby and I found nothing to rave about at this place. Best TAKE OUT sea food you can find .! My husband ordered on his way home from work and not only was it ready when he arrived , it was still warm when he got home. We live about 13 minutes from restaurant. It was seasoned very very well and was sooo good . The crab legs were very meaty and plentiful. Awesome new addition for the Southaven area for seafood. This is the same JJs that was near Hacks Crossing Rd in Memphis. I like this location alot better since its smaller and cozier. The food is pretty much just as good as the previous location. We come here for the crawfish of course and the J3's seasoning is on point with the owners special sauce. We usually have the J3 + Hot which is very flavorful and has a bit of a heat to it. I got the J3 Cajun Seafood bag which consisted of lobster, snow crab, king crab, and shrimp, It comes with corn, potato and sausage as well. Everything was seasoned just right. The staff was very friendly and our waiter was on top of everything. He changed out our trays we had for our shells like 3 times so it wouldn't overflow. I was very pleased with the service. I'm from out of town and love Cajun and Seafood so I thought I would try J3 Cajun Seafood to get some oysters and some seafood. Oysters were great and was started eating my seafood boil and it was very tasty, but part way through eating it I ended up with a huge black hair in my mouth. I must say it kind of ruins your appetite. Told the waitress and she immediately went back and I would assume she told the owner or manager. I hadn't touched the king crab or the snow crab saving them for last since they are my favorite. We the manager/owner never came out to talk to me or anything. Just told the waitress I ate too much of the food to get a credit on my bill. I did t care about that, but the spineless, worthless person in charge couldn't take time to apologize. A couple of friends and I always order two 3-lb bags of crawfish with mild J3 sauce, with a side of boom boom sauce. The mini corn dogs are a good appetizer to hold you over while your food is being prepared. The shining star of the meal is always the crawfish, and the boom boom sauce takes it to another level. It's so good. Every other crawfish boil I eat now, I feel like I need that sauce. I've tried the fried catfish and it's more breading and salt than fish, so I can't recommend it. I had the bag with lobster, King crab, snow crab, medium sized gulf shrimp, sausage, corn and a potato. My wife had the shrimp basket. Everything was fantastic. My food came out in a timely manner and it was so fresh, hot, and flavorful! I got a combo with grilled shrimp and fried chicken. The shrimp wasn't overcooked and the fried chicken was so crispy and had a kick to add flavor! The waitress was kind and hope to come back again. Wow has this place has really gone down hill. The food is still very good and is a good value for what you get. The service on the other hand was flat out horrible! The server who should really consider a career change, acted as if we were an inconvenience. We were not even given silverware and ended up having to ask the server that brought our food out for some. (not our server because she was no where in sight for the most part) We had to ask repeatedly for drink refills, lemon and extra butter. On the subject of said extra butter I was charged .50 cents for butter after spending 40.00 for a bag! That is outrageous! The only reason this isn't less stars is because the other servers seemed to be doing a better job of taking care of their tables and the food is still really good. Next time maybe I will just get it to go and save myself the frustration. read more

No big deal. What I wish was different: There was not enough sauce. Very very little sauce and almost paste like. The flavor was good. On the menu it states 10-15 shrimp; both my husband and I got exactly 10 shrimp in each bag. Not sure if it's really weighed or just cut you off at 10 shrimp for $15.99. Our server was on his cell phone behind the bar/ front ate and chatting with a young lady while my cup was waiting for a refill. This was my first time trying this restaurant even though I've been to the place next door several times. First things first, it's not very appealing to the eye as far as cleanliness. There are several changes to the dining area that need to be done to make it more appealing. And the dining area should be cleaned between customers especially since it's a seafood restaurant. It was 5 of us and we ordered a variety of items off the menu varying from wings, catfish, steak, crab legs and lobster tail. It was ok...the seasoning although it was supposed to have been mild was almost too spicy to eat. The service was ok. So definitely no bragging as far as food and service. And a little pricey. First I want to say my husband and I drove two hours to come to this establishment. The restaurant was clean which was a plus. We sat down and looked to the side where there was a sign that reads 18% service charge, I started to leave but instead I told my husband this food has to be darn good so we decided to stay. We ordered the fish platter for him with extra shrimp and for me the J3 seafood platter that comes with 1/2 lb snow crab, 1/2 lb king crab, one sausage, potato, one corn on the cob and two to three shrimp oh and the sauce I ordered was the J3 sauce Let me jump right in! The crab legs where awful, they had a bad taste as if they where old so did the corn and the potatoes, they left the shrimp out the bag and when she did bring them to me they where cold and tasteless. I'm still trying to figure out where the sauce came in at because I never tasted it. Now the fried catfish was amazing and so where the beer battered fries, the fried shrimp had good flavor but they where not as big as they made them out to be. I was so disappointed from what I had just experienced. I ended up eating fried fish from my husbands plate. 100+ dollar meal 18 dollars of that was service charge. The bill wasn't a problem at all, we don't get to indulge much but when we do we pretty much do it big and don't mind paying for good service and good food oh and let me add, the service wasn't bad at all.
