Cool little place, that is deceiving because it can hold more people that you think it can. Came here on a date, just randomly found this place on a yelp search (I don't know if you guys know about yelp, but nice little tool!). They have a good section of bubbly, reds and whites by the class, menu had some good cocktails and I believe they also had beer (don't quote me). I actually ordered the wrong wine by mistake, I didn't say anything but I liked what I drank. My date liked her red. we sat at the bar but there are tables with couches and comfy seats along the side and in the back. Definitely recommend and would definitely come back here. read more

This is such a cute, cozy wine bar. I have been twice and they always have an interesting selection of wine within a good price range (most of the glasses are between $12-$16). It is a great atmosphere to sit and have a conversation without ever feeling rushed. Service is fantastic and they are helpful with recommendations if you ask. read more

I've been to J9 twice and have had great experiences! The first time we sat in one of the tables in the window, the second time we were on one of the couches in the back. Had a great time in this little neighborhood wine bar. We went there before dinner for an aperitif and some snacks. The charcuterie and cheese were really good. So were the wines we had. I love this place. My husband and I went there this past Saturday for their Tuscany wine tasting class. You definitely get your money's worth. We had about 4 to 5 different wines and the host was extremely knowledgeable and very pleasant. He was very generous with the pours too. We will definitely be back for more tastings. What sets it apart is the ambience--a choice of seats at a high bar or plush, lounge couches and chairs in the back--that doesn't make it feel like a restaurant or bar. The wine list comes in what looks like a business portfolio; it's very extensive! The bartender was a real sommelier and aptly described each wine that I inquired about. Found this unexpected gem when we got turned away from a restaurant down the street whose door was open with customers inside, but they "weren't open". Anyway ... The atmosphere is cozy, with lots of nice couches and chairs around the bar. We were helped quickly, and allowed a good number of samples until we found our wines of choice. The selection is quite solid, and I was pleased to see they had a handful of port wines as well. We stayed well into the night, and will definitely remember J9 the next time we're in the area. read more

We noticed this place while we were across the street at Summer House. It's a great option if you're waiting for a table at one of the nearby restaurants. What a neighborhood GEM! We stumbled across this place after enjoying some delicious pasta a block away. Though completely packed (Saturday night, people!), we were luckily able to score a really cozy, couch seat by the brick wall. The gentleman that greeted was super friendly and got us settled in right away. Our server, whose name I am forgetting was just FANTASTIC! He advised us on a couple different wines based off our palettes and continued to check in on us throughout the night. I ordered the cheese board which was hands down, one of the BEST cheese boards I have had -- I can't recall what cheeses were offered but the presentation and offerings were just delicious! We will definitely be back!! They also host wine classes on weekends (I think weekdays too?) but over - just a super spot and I'm already anticipating my next visit :) A+! read more

We (wife) wanted a Malbec, but they were out. We were given other helpful suggestions. Wifey liked the Gaba do Xil 2009 (ehh?). I as a staunch beer drinker enjoyed it as well. All in all nice place. What a warm and cozy wine bar. My wife and I have been there twice (once after the Steppenwolf) enjoyed some delicious wines including Cabsernets and Pinot Noirs. The place seems to attract a great neighborhood crowd and it is right across from Summer House so we saw three women having wine there and then going to the restaurant. The decor is more like so inviting with woods, unique lighting, comfortable sofas and chairs plus an absolutely beautiful bar. Wines are normal pricing, but the selection is tremendous. The owner recommended a truly outstanding Cabernet. Love this place -- will be back! read more
