Little did I know they added another 8% to the bill for the conversion. My credit card doesn't charge me a fee. It was presented to me as a convenience to print as such with no mention of additional charges and improper conversion rates. So deceitful. The 4 of us had dinner there last weekend and it was ok. Service was ok. Waiter was trying to be friendly. Food portions were ok, except for the Nachos that we ordered as an appetizer. What has happened to this once consistent franchise? It's received 2 stars for no other reason than the server and her fantastic service and sense of humour. The food was terrible. A simple pasta with butter for my daughter took much longer than expected. The pasta was dry. The lack of salt and pepper at the table was rather embarrassing. The chicken was immediately thrown on to the table. Upon a small sample, which was anything but pleasant, I could only assume that it was accidentally cooked in the food dehydrator or the attempt to serve my daughter mummified foreskin. The good news, the chicken fingers are huge now. Unfortunately, they are nowhere near as tender as they used to be, and the unfortunate heinous act of being dry and little spice. Not knowing the size change, I ordered the 8 piece. Not knowing the upgrade was an extra 9 dollars on top of the $20.99 starting price. So with a beer, the full pop for my mediocre dinner, dinner was just under $50. Poor value for poor food, slow service but a good server. I don't think I'll be back. It' was painfully embarrassing to see the disaster that is now Jack Astors. At least they had an upbeat crowd and an updated setting to celebrate the unfortunate disaster they served to my daughter and I. I've honestly had food poisoning that was more enjoyable. read more

Ordered the Salmon Bowl. Meal arrived with stale rice which was in clumps, dry and smelly. The avocado piece was unripe, and could cut into it. Meal was returned after explaining issues. Ordered the cheese burger instead, which arrived 20 minutes later, with cold fries, and tasteless beef patties. I asked to speak with the manager. After explaining the issue to her, she said " I wish you'd told me earlier " ? Not sure why? I am telling you now. Anyone worth their salt would have corrected the mistake Somehow. Had a table for 6, food was great, service was great, we paid our bill and then debated on if we should have some dessert. This rude manager informs us that since we have paid our bill and just sitting there that we had to leave saying we were there for 2.5 hrs. NOT, we were there for 1 hr 10 min....big difference. I visited this location with my mother during the lunch rush on the weekend. The waiter was very friendly but it was hard for us to hear him and vice versa because of the volume of the music playing. We asked for straws and he smiled and nodded but we never got them, not a big deal but still. Awkward. Our food came out fairly quickly and was quite delicious for the most part, the only negative thing I would say was about their bread. It just tasted different/odd to me compared to other locations, like a certain spice was added or too much of a certain flavour was overpowering. I wasn't a fan. And same went for the dipping sauce for the sweet potato fries, it just tasted off. The place was quite clean as were the bathrooms. I had supper this evening at Jack Astor's, which is near my hotel. It was fairly busy for a Tuesday evening. I sat on the dining room side. I ordered what I usually order at Jack Astor's ... Chicken Parmigiana (Fresh chicken breast, lightly breaded and topped with smoked Mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Served with bowtie pasta, tossed in a creamy cheese sauce.) The pasta was REALLY good. The chicken was overcooked (burnt in some places) and kind of skimpy and loaded with tomatoes. Dave was my server and he took excellent care of me. We had diner at this place twice and all I can say is Wow! The service is always great! The waters are super friendly and take care of you. The food is hot and tasty. And after a few occasions going there I can say: you won't be disappointed. I ve had a few dinners around the area and Jack Astor's at this location never disappoints. Food at other comparable locations was cold, service was not great and that's the reason we always go back to Jack Astor's. Probably the worst experience at a chain restaurant we've ever had. We didn't have high hopes and unfortunately, they did not prove us wrong. If you have a $30+ steak on the menu, maybe get kitchen staff who know how to cook. I love the crowd favourite Asiago chicken bow tie and have been getting it for years. So I got it today and the chicken was rubbery and salty. Food came out room temperature. Got 3 things from them yesterday. First thing I got was the macho nachos 2.5/5 very conservative on the toppings. second I ordered the pad Thai noodle bowl and added shrimp to it for $8, are you kidding come on put some normal amount of shrimp ‍ 2-5 for value 3/5 for taste. Third I ordered the Thai sesame stir fry also paid about $4 to add chicken, this dish was actually the best tasting of the three but again very cheap on the protein was mostly rice, value 3/5 taste 4/5. read more

This isn't to give any negative feedback to our server Melissa she was great. We're new to the area and this was our first time here at this location, and it will be our last. Jack Astor's has always been good to us at other locations. When we ordered our food everything was fine until we got our main dishes. To start off my husband ordered wings and fries and as he was eating there was a long hair in the carrots. He sent that back and didn't get anything else. I ordered the friesty sandwich and wasn't impressed the bread tasted old. My youngest daughter ordered the build your own tacos and just letting you parents know the beef is made with cumin.... not appealing for kids at all especially with it being a bit spicy. I would like to thank Melissa for going out of her way to try to make things better. As for the manager just a heads up if you have a customer complain about something in the restaurant that your managing, it would be greatly appreciated if you would too address the issue and not just have your server do that part of your job. My twins, my husband and my mother came here tonight and we're served by Jay. I've been BOH in the industry for 21 years. This man was nothing but a charm to add to the business. He apologized that our food was taking longer than normal. We were only sat for about 15 minutes. That is a "zero wait" for us being in the industry so long. He was very sweet, charming, and interacted with my 4 year olds on a personal level. Our food was grand and well received after a long day at Santa's Village Bracebridge. 10/10 service. I ate at Jack Astors 4 times in the last two weeks weeks and liked it a lot. It's pub food but better than most. I liked the beer cheese potato soup and the Warren LaRuth cheeseburger. A special treat was the orangeade. This isn't chemical orange drink like I usually see, but it's an actual drink made from oranges. It's like lemonade but with oranges and is real good. The service is far above average. Very friendly and they remember you when you go back. If I'm in Barrie again I'm definitely going back. read more

Better than average pub style food. I usually have the home made chicken fingers which are a Jack Astor's "original" dish. I love these chicken fingers, the coating on them is crispy and not at all greasy. The side salads are very well made with all kinds of add ons. Jack Astor's (at least this one) tends to be somewhat loud and even when seated in the "dining room" it can be difficult to hold a conversation with the people you are dining with. The service is good. Pricing can be a bit on the high side for the volume of food served. All in all, this Jack Astor's is like many others. OK, but not great. read more

I always go to the Newmarket location and am never disappointed by the food or the service. This time we decided to try the Barrie location. We always enjoy the food at Jacks and this time was no exception. Unfortunately our service was disappointing. Our server Brooke seemed frazzled right away and it wasn't busy, 2:00 on a Wednesday. She forgot the lemon for my drink. Didn't offer us grated cheese on our Caesar Salad or Chicken Parm. She just seemed really rushed. We will not be going back again. It's seems that the food quality and serving size has declined in the past year while increasing their prices. Today we went for lunch and both had salads, which included chicken on the menu. Each salad was $19. What used to be a great lunch time meal is now a giant bowl of lettuce with scant toppings. Collectively there might have been a chicken breast between the two salads- changing their serving bowls also so that your salad looks impressive but actually when you start eating it's almost all lettuce and nothing else. Which would be fine, if they're not charging almost $20 a bowl. Thankfully our server was very good. So i tried this place for the first time yesterday for dinner with my fam,the place was busy, i almost went back to my car when seeing the crowded at the patio side since i brought my toddler daughter,but i finally gave it a try to go inside and ask if there was seat available,surprisingly we got seat rightaway without waiting hurray...This place was busy, but i think it was comfortable, the atmosphere was just perfect, not too much bright light, and good enough to eat with ur toddler who was always moving around.The waitress was really nice, friendy and beautiful,but u have to talk a bit louder because its not really a quiet place there..there were bunch of TV and all people talked around u but the bright side was when ur toddler screaming or u have to yell at them,people cant really hear you LOL...so u are pretty much have ur privacy :).... Price is similar to KEG, which is yes pricey, i was having steak yesterday and it was really good, the best was memphis steak(with mushroom and fried onion on top of the sirloin), and bourbon steak was amazing too(steak with shrimp and tomato sauce on the side) and they had menu for kids too, the kids menu was similar to boston pizza, they came with drink and dessert and the price for kids was around 7-10 dollars. so i recommended this place...good food and good service.... read more

Server too FOREVER to even notice us, and then FINALLY got some drinks ordered, which came in a reasonable amount of time.. But that was it.. We wanted to order food and we had menus but wanted to ask a question, such as, "why is there no dessert on here".. to which we ended up receiving a dessert menu and ordering THE BEST THING ON THEIR MENU: SOME CHEESECAKE PARFAIT THING! (of which I forgot the name but you'll see it if you ever get a dessert menu).. We ate.. no, SLAMMED, it and then our server grabbed the empty dishes, and promptly Houdini'ed it outta there.. When we finally (like a LONG time later) saw another server around we asked to get the bill and asked WTF on our server - oh, she's having dinner.. REALLY?! Ok, so deal with your tables and THEN stuff your face.. I pressed 10% on the tip machine but then recanted because I don't like giving a low tip, even for the worst service ever..
