Some leave their heart in San Francisco, I left mine in San Jose approximately 166 miles away from this Lost Hills Jack in the Box. After being on the road for a few hours on a good long boring stretch of I-5, I stopped to use the facilities and get some grub. The Lost Hills exit has a smorgasbord of choices but I settled on Jack in the Box. It's right off the freeway and I've never eaten here. My original intent was to try their breakfast since it's served all day long but then I decided to go with the Spicy Chicken combo and some curly fries. Everyone I know who's ever eaten at a Jack in the Box has ranted and raved about the curly fries so why not? It was a buck more. Ok, sure. They claim to make their food right when you order instead of letting it sit under a heat lamp. I caught a nice sunset until my food arrived and tried to ignore all the truckers that were starring at me - the only girl eating by herself. I really just wanted to eat and leave so I grabbed a seat facing away from them and continued to enjoy my sunset wishing I could share it but alas I was by my lonesome. My sandwich and fries arrived piping hot. I grabbed some hot taco sauce for my fries that wasn't all that hot, not even slightly hot. Mild and bland is more like it. My sandwich was a slippery mess of mayo and as far as spicy, well you can rule that out too. And the curly fries? Yeah, I don't know what you're all talking about. I prefer the regular stuff. No, curly fries in my future. Thank you very much. I guess I should have just gotten the breakfast. You live and you learn, right? I did appreciate the sales staff though. They really do know their stuff and the menu items backwards and forward. I had made a mental note to ask where one would live all the way out in BFE Lost Hills but the truck drivers creeped me out and I tabled the side chatter for another time. On a side note, not a bad place to catch a meal and clean restrooms. This location is open 24 hours like pretty much everything else on I-5. Pit stop time on the road to San Diego and Jack's seemed like a good choice since it was right next to the gas station. That, and it's just about my buddy's favorite fast food joint in the world. My friend and I shared a fish sandwich meal, 2 croissant sandwiches, and 4 tacos (we're fatties!). I haven't had their tacos in a long while but they definitely hit the spot. The fish was tasty too and apparently one of the least bad things on the menu. The breakfast sandwiches were good as well. Heck, it was all good. Service on the other hand was slow and they messed up the order. The restaurant was fairly updated and pretty clean as well. We stopped in on Christmas Day around 6:00, they were super short staffed and busy. Customers were being very rude and wanting to cancel orders because the wait times were taking so long. The 3 workers I saw kept their composure and remained friendly even when the customers weren't! We had an order for 7 people and everything came out correct and nothing was missed . So I have been travelling across the country from East to West, and when I do so I try to avoid chains as much as possible, wanting to sample the local flair of food for each region I am in. However, Jack in the Box in this case sort of is a local flair for food, since the closest one to me back home is about five hundred miles away. As such, I just had to stop in to at least one while I was on this trip, just to see if the food was what I remembered it to be. Stopping here, Lost Hills is essentially a truck stop along the I-5 route between San Francisco and Los Angeles. However, I did not get here via I-5, instead crossing over on CA-46 on my to Bakersfield and eventually Death Valley. It was time for lunch, and there isn't really all that much else in this town except for your usual fast food places, so I figured this was the time to try out ol' Jack in the Box for this trip. Inside was clean, and it was slow enough that I was able to get my order in quickly. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with fries and a drink, and I wasn't disappointed. The sandwich was good, the fries were to my liking, and the drink was... well, it's a soft drink... nothing to write home about. So why the three star rating, right? I mean, it seems like I had a good experience and all... Well, here is the thing... this is a chain restaurant. As such the food is specified to be a certain way, just like every other restaurant in the chain. It doesn't change, it doesn't lead to creativity or anything else... it just is. So that effectively gets dropped out of my equation for ratings unless it is bad. So that basically leaves cleanliness and customer service. As I said, it was clean inside, so that also did not detract from my three stars. This leaves customer service... and while it wasn't bad, it also wasn't exceptional. It just was... they took my order, put it together, and got it to me in a timely manner. Nothing screamed out to me of good or bad... it just was... so three stars it is. read more

Don't do it! Don't stop here! Quite possibly the worst Jack in the Box, and most likely my worst fast food experience. Ever. We stopped here for lunch on our way to Disneyland. Tried to order two tacos. She told me they were frozen. I asked if she could cook them and she told me they wouldn't cook even all the way through and they would make people sick. Ok, so I asked for a southwest chicken salad. She said there was no one working salad prep so she couldn't sell any salads. Ok, I ordered a burger. I've been stopping at this Jack (#188) for decades on my trips up and down the state. I have never had a bad experience here, and the food has always been very much up to specs. My wife and I visited on 2/8/17. My Meat Lover's Burrito combo was the best $5.19 I've ever spent ! Her Grilled Breakfast Sandwich was obviously enjoyed. We used our respective restrooms, and mine was clean and orderly. My wife also had no complaints about hers, and she's the picky one. The counter worker, Aracely, was very efficient and quite service-oriented and friendly. I really like the Coke vending machine where you can pick from dozens of different flavors. All in all, it was a very pleasant visit, and there is no doubt we will return in the future. read more

Decent Jack Stop SITREP On roundtrips between L.A. and Sacramento, times vary when I get out of one city's grid before I head for the other. What can't be predicted ahead of time is when I'm hit by a Jack-Taco craving. THE SETUP As it turned out, on this particular trip, the 12noon hour coincided with me going through the Lost Hills of California's Hwy 46. They have a Jack-in-the-Box. Good as time as any to stop. Popped off the I-5, hit Jack's, popped back onto I-5 in all of about 7-8 minutes. Nice. MENU Really. I feel funny saying "Menu", but there are other choices to be had here. But I just got my 4-For-$2 Tacos through the drive-thru, and I was on my way. The tacos here don't seem to be as stuffed as the one's in Vallejo, but what you can do when you have hundreds of miles to still traverse before getting back to Sacto. 3/16/15. One of the worst Jack's I've ever had the displeasure of visiting... it literally almost killed me! Even before I went inside... After I parked my car I was walking across the parking and some crazy car speeding through the lot barely misses me and then stops. The dude inside yells at me, "They have sht inside. Be careful!" Like what T F??? Yes, those were his EXACT words. What could that mean? (Alright, so I probably wouldn't have died.... but you know...) I wanted to say something, but he immediately raced off. Still couldn't really find the words (what do you say to that!?!?), so I guess no loss... So then I got to the door and carefully opened it expecting to see some brown smelly stuff waiting to soil my shoes. I stepped in and sniffed.... hmm, smells normal. Well, I dunno what that guy meant. Then I looked around, and other than the one family of 4 sitting at one of the tables, the place was empty but looked like a hurricane went through it! There were trays left on many of the tables, and TONS of numbers just sitting on table tops! Trash all over the floor, and all over the other furniture. Hmmmmmmm....... Then I got to the counter to order. And...... stood there. Yup. Just stood there, for 2min. I start to hear BOOMING laughing coming from the back. It continues. Then gets louder and louder until I find what looks like the manager (based on his grey shirt and slacks) standing 5ft away. He glances at me and says, "I'll be right with you" then disappears again. Then another min passes and a girl appears and also reiterates, "I'll be right with you." Then disappears. ....................... And finally, she comes back and takes her station behind the register.... So I order: 1. Bacon & Swiss Butter Jack [small meal] $6.49: Well, I normally do like Jack and most of the burgers I've had at various locations have been pretty juicy and tasty. But this one was dry and just overall a mess. So I dunno if it really represents the chain's usual quality. Anyway, tasted I guess alright. Had a nice sauce. But as I said the meat was worse than normal. As for this butter thing--yeah I see grease smeared on the bun, but it didn't really make anything taste better. The bread was nice though--was kinda sweet like a Hawaiian roll. Fries didn't taste as good as normal either. Welp, compared to my normal expectation of Jacks around the world 2/10. Back to the story.... So as I sat there eating and taking pics of my food, 2 groups of people enter at different times. Both times they stood there at the counter, like I did, and stood, and stood. One girl started tapping on the counter to try to get someone's attention. But no one came. But we all heard the booming laughing........... laughing constantly. This is one of the WORST Jack In the Box I have been to . I was on I 5 and going to LA and thought it's been so long that I had in Jack so stopped by this place. I placed the order at 11 :47 AM and I got my order at 12 :02 PM 15 minutes for curly fries and a chicken pita. There were like 6 or 7 fries in that and the pita was too cold and the veggies in it were also cold. The service is too bad and slow. No joke every single table is dirty remind you they are not even busy. The employees are standing behind the counter doing nothing. Food and trash all over the floor. Ewww. I was excited to try this new limited time Mac n cheese fried nuggets mixed with French fries. The fries were not warm , only the Mac n cheese and those were decent. But the tacos were awful. I used to love these. Well they're complete garbage. We also ordered a sausage croissant, which also isn't what it used to be. Tasted like not much at all. This is a new modern Jack In The Box that has a drive thru and it's open 24 hours everyday! Ordered our food, and for some reason even though it wasn't busy or anything, it still took quite longer than it should have in my opinion. 1 Regular Vanilla Milkshake 1 20 Piece Chicken Nuggets 1 Large Curly Fries The food tastes as it normally does at any given Jack In The Box. Came here for a quick stop, it was empty. I ordered a caramel iced coffee and after one sip i could taste that this milk or whatever they put in had gone bad. I got a sour and bitter taste in my mouth. So disgusting. Mind you, i always get iced coffees at Jack in the Box so i know that this is not how they're supposed to taste. Ate here and then went to go pee... there was no toilet paper in either of the stalls, unless you count the piles of it that were spilling out the trash bins and all over the floor. Both stalls and the sink area. Disgusting. I told the young woman who was mopping under tables (just about the toilet paper, figuring she would see the mess for herself) and she gave me a look like she couldn't care less and said, "okay." Just kept mopping the floor, didn't let anyone know or take the initiative to fix it herself. Probably knew how bad it was and was waiting for her shift to be over so that her relief had to do the work. This was Sunday night, 9-3-2017, around 9:30pm in case anyone at Jack in the Box would like to have a discussion with the staff.
