Recently had the best mojito of my life here, when my fiance and some friends stopped in while waiting for a seat at a nearby restaurant.

This place is a solid 3-Star spot! I've been here a couple times and went back here for the first time this year for a friend's birthday celebration. My friend reserved the upstair area for the party. However, even though it had a fan, it got really hot, so we eventually moved the party downstairs. They also have video games sat up but they are always not working and the staff member couldn't fix it. This seems to be the case every time I visit. Also I believe you need to order enough drinks so you don't get charged extra for using that upstair space. They have one bathroom for both men and women. The line moved pretty quickly and was surprisingly clean. Drinks here are pretty reasonably priced. I paid $13 for two drinks (Jameson and Ginger and a Vodka Soda). Oh, and I love the giant jackalope decoration! read more

Another spot by the people who brought you my 2nd, 5th and 13th favorite bar names in SF. The three spots may be identified by: 1. 25-cent Wing Night (with two drinks) on Wednesday. Animal is the drummer. 2. Nintendo. Wheel-o-drinks. 3. (Semi-?) Ironic reference (/homage?) to the previous bar, where I spent my formative first few months 'hooding it up with Tech Developers and Yo-Pros. Also, a REALLY good Bloody Mary. Put that in your Carnac envelope. ..."What are three other bars brought to you by folks who have Jackalope?" This used to be Mark's - on Polk/Post. The owner sold it, and now it is Jackalope. I've been in a few times - so far, pretty vanilla, but I love the space and the vibe. The re-do is in the works. If there's one thing I've learned from their bars, they know how to add value and create good spots. I talked with one of the bartenders, who was really personable. I'm really excited to see this place evolve, especially since this is even closer down Polk towards my office. It sure worked well with 5:07pm World Series starts. They have a cool little hide-a-way upstairs. The sign I just walked by the other day mentioned a Duck Hunt lounge. I need to find out what that means. read more

The vibes here are awesome. Each bar along polk has such character and attracts a wide variety of clientele, and this place is not too douche-y, not too party-y, and not too quiet-y. I hate walking into a bar and realizing I'm surrounded by dads, and this place definitely attracts a younger crowd, though I did see a few dads sprinkled here and there. Kinda small, but it wasn't overly packed for 11pm on a Saturday. Javier behind the bar is super nice, and one of the locals I sat next to couldn't stop complimenting him on his refined bartending techniques. They have a themed cocktail list, and I tried the chupacabra ($10) which seemed the most similar to a margarita. Sippity sip sip it was delicious. Didn't get a chance to try Plinko game on the wall, but definitely will next time. Absolutely zero complaints about this place, and if I lived slightly closer I would definitely be a regular. Oh Jackalope, you had potential. Your guest bartenders failed, hard. While a good concept, you bring in these 'guest bartenders' to serve cocktails for a few hours, invite their friends in, and then the money goes to charity. But, as a former bartender, this is an awful idea. What about that poor guy who is actually the bartender, getting slammed with cocktails during the 2 for 1 happy hour on a nice day. What about the fact that this 'guest bartenders' are not even sure how to pour a beer so you are paying for a little beer and a lot of head/foam. And these 'guest bartenders' who are too busy talking to all of their friends coming in to visit they can't pay attention to actual customers... Aside from the fact that the happy hour is a great deal and this place is pretty close to my house, I would not be back with a guest bartender, possibly a happy hour one day to give it a real shot. read more

After two bad experiences here I can say without a doubt Jackalope does NOT like black patrons. You know how you come into a bar and just know the energy is bad? I came in tonight and the bartender behind the bar (white girl with dark hair) ignored me for several minutes before eventually giving me her attention. I asked for a drink menu which she provided but after I asked for a canned drink, I asked her what flavors do you have? " I don't know, it's a bunch of stuff in there" and walked away. I then asked her if she could look. She did and then immediately closed out my tab without a word. I asked her if she was comfortable serving me and she barely looked me in the eye before asking the Asian bartender at the end of the bar( who funny enough was the last bartender i dealt with there who was just horrible)what my problem was. I eventually asked for a refund and promised myself I would not return there. Please don't patronize this bar if you are BIPOC they neither want nor care for your money. Great awesome bar on Polk! These guys can make a damn good drink. We came here on a Friday right after work and this place was fairly packed with most of the seats taken. There was one bartender at the time and he handled the bar by himself before we left, which is extremely hard to do by yourself! We were greeted properly and when he had a big order in front of us, told us that he will take our orders first but make theirs first - which was cool because he kept a positive attitude! We ordered two rounds of the Honey Mee and it's like gods nectar, super good and it's one of those cocktails where I feel like if I get a sore throat - it'll heal me. Definitely one of the to go joints if you are in the area - weird things do happen though if you sit by the window, it is close by to the tenderloin after all. read more

I had an awesome experience at Jackalope! Great drinks, great people, great vibe. I really liked their mules and beer selection. Trivia night was really well done - it was challenging but really fun. They gave out shots along the way for the winning team, and gave a generous $50 gift certificate for winning! The owner Javier is great. I accidentally forgot my credit card at the bar, and he went out of his way to make sure I got it back. I really appreciate it! In a neighborhood with LOTS of competition, Jackalope is fine. Went in on a Sunday night with a group of friends. There were about 10 other people at the bar, plus my group of 5. The bartender was out to lunch--literally eating a sandwich behind the bar and texting--and figuratively. We wanted to play a round of Plinko, so we asked for the ball, but she never came by with it...so I guess they didn't want our money. Drinks that she DID serve were good but overpriced ($9 for a Jack and Coke). The bar itself has a few old-school video games and a nice vibe, though. Won't be back. read more

First off, I don't really like hanging out around Polk anymore because there's a ton of tourists, young kids trying to get a drink and places are super crowded. I was in the neighborhood on a Sat night and decided to drop in. Cool spot!! It does get crowded, but I was still able to find a seat at the bar. The bartenders were attentive and quick to make drinks. Didn't have to wait. I like the whole Jackalope theme. They have a huge ass wooden carved Jackalope hanging from the wall, pretty cool. They also had some space upstairs, but I wasn't able to check it out. Overall, it was a pretty cool spot. Would recommend if you like partying up on Polk. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Jackalope on Wednesday 3/4/2020. The night was enjoyable with excellent service and very friendly patrons. This is the atmosphere that I expect at this establishment, and my main motivation for frequenting the location. Unfortunately at one point in the evening, a group of individuals came into the bar and someone in their party was politely asked to leave because they lacked an ID (this is standard practice in SF bars). As this patron continued to stay (and drink) she was asked again to leave. At this point, members of this party acted egregiously aggressive, and proceeded to purposefully spill their beers out of protest. This party seem to believe that they were entitled to act outside the premise of the law, and if they did not get their way, would react with violence. I was terrified; their erratic actions caused me to fear for my personal safety. I was very grateful that during the entire incident the Wednesday night staff continued to demonstrate only the highest-levels of service and professionalism. That level of service is why I continue to frequent this establishment. On the same note, it was incredibly disheartening to see such rude and thoroughly disrespectful behavior exhibited at a local establishment. I truly hope that if the members of that party choose to frequent Jackalope again, that they will be asked not to enter due to their demonstrated offensive and violent actions. read more

The place that this is is solid. We can't really dis it at all. Been here a few times and it's been quite the experience trust me it's tremendous. Last time I came here with some people. I grabbed a quick 3 shots of tequila and a tall-boy while my friend dropped a ball down the plinking machine and wound up with a shot of patron + another go-around. On the second try we ended up with a bottle of champagne - I wouldn't tough that since vis-a-vis there's sugar and that's a hangover and also Coachella is imminent. My new favorite local bar. When I think of Polk street bars, I think fresh out of college kids, loud, dirty, and badly poured drinks. Jackalope is a the complete opposite. For one, the crowd is a lot older than the Vegas attire groups that usually frequent Mayes, Vertigo, and Playground. Two, the bartenders are super laid back and experts in making amazing concoctions. No need to walk a couple of blocks to the tenderloin (B&B, Traditions) for high quality drinks. I'm not stuck in a room filled with rookies drinking adios amigos and long islands. They also have a Plinko game on the wall which is a great place to entertain a group of friends. I normally see groups get super competitive and aggressive as the night goes on. Warning, stay far away from the motor oil. If Plinko isn't your style, they have a fully stocked Sega and Nintendo system upstairs. +5 because the last time I played Dunk Hunt, I was rocking princess Leia buns and owned a Cabbage Patch Kids lunch box. I think this is as close as we've come to finding a place that has solid drinks, good HH specials (hello, BOGO!), friendly bartenders, and space to move around. Sadly, they don't serve any food. While looking for something to do on a chill Monday night, my friend and I stumbled upon this cool spot. It's a really tiny bar and an even tinier room upstairs. We sat right next to the plinko game. For $10.00, you get one plinks and whatever number it lands on, you get certain drinks. So there we are, ordering some cocktails, which were both delicious, when he tells us that it's buy one get one free. So for $20.00, we ended up with 4 total cocktails. We made our way upstairs to replay our childhood days of duck hunt. They also had tons of Sega Genesis games. Talk about flashbacks. More than 20 years later, those games are still the bomb. You can reserve this tiny room for groups of q5, so I guess I'd you want to come on weekends to play, you might not get a chance if it's reserved. I really enjoyed hanging out at this bar and their daily specials, which you can find on their website, but I can only imagine how packed this place can get on the weekends. read more

This is the Marina in the Polk Gulch. All in all, this place is a must if you want to guzzle fireball served by "guest" bartenders. The guest bartender is a major flaw here. The bottom line is that this place gets too busy, and the guest bartenders are too inexperienced to handle the traffic. Moreover guest bartenders lack the basic skill set required to be a barback let alone bartender. That said, guest bartenders can be a major plus. They lack the basic ability to ring in your tab correctly. I've come here before and have had many free drinks because the guest bartenders cant keep track of the tab. I have paid 6 dollars for 2 old fashions and 2 beers. Plus, they are overally generous with pours. On the bright side, they will do their best to make you happy. If you don't like your drink, they will try to make it right. As I think of it, this place is awesome for the wrong reasons. read more

This bar is as mythical as the creature for which it's named. I wasn't in there more than 5 minutes before I won a bottle of champagne from the Plinko game as my friend shouted over the crowd about the arcade game in the back. To say we had a raucous night would be putting it mildly. Jackalope also has an unbelievably nice owner, Javier. After our group called it a night, I discovered my beaded hair clip had rocketed itself from my head. I emailed the bar and got a response from Javier the next day with a photo of my flower asking if he'd found the right one. I was overjoyed, and when I went to pick it up, he'd put it in a box on top of a piece of jewelry cotton that made it look like I was buying it brand new! Unreal. Jackalope was a fun bar! It was quite entertaining as it offered a plinko game and some old arcade games upstairs. The Plinko Blinko can be a hit or miss, the stakes are high on this one guys! You can win a bottle of champagne or a tall boy for the price tag of $10. If you're looking for something old fashioned behind the bar, the bartenders are quite knowledgable on what they serve. I found a new favorite: fernet. The bar is located towards the end of the Polk commotion, but nonetheless still offers you a good time. read more

Typing this review 3 days later because I really had to! SO. MUCH. FUN. LOCATION: I was visiting from Vegas. The streets were loud, busy, and possibly a little unsafe. Reminded me a lot of DTLV and it was a local, younger crowded. MUSIC: My favorite! Everyone was enjoying it. A mix of fun with top 100 and some that I've never heard before. COST: No cover and I don't remember because I was a little tipsy. It's all good in the neighborhood. I'm 90% sure it was cheaper than Vegas nightlife. OVERALL: it was a great time and by far made my night. I would recommend it to everyone and their moms if you're fine with Polk St. I would love to come back! read more

Long overdue review for my trip to San Francisco in June. I read about the plinko drinking game from thrillist and had to go there. I was running out of time during my trip but I managed to go my last half hour in SF before heading to the airport. It wasn't too busy since it was in the middle of the afternoon when I went but the bartender was very nice and quick since I was in a rush. Everyone including some customers and the bartender seemed very surprised when I walked and and just said I wanted to play plinko. I had the drink and wrote a couple of post cards while I was there. Definitely have to go back if I find myself in SF again and stay longer! read more
