My friend said "hey, wanna listen to some heavy music while having a good meal?" I wasn't sure of the music but I would never say no to good food. Last night my 3 friends and I visited this awesomely eclectic, dimmed lighted little dive on East Hastings Street. If you don't like heavy metal music then still run to this awesome little place to enjoy delicious homemade food. Service was prompt and friendly. Truly enjoyed looking at their decor of vintage animals and rock/heavy music. We had: Jackalopes Lager, Strathcona Pilsner and Pickle Back (Canadian Club Rye with a shot of pickle juice). My friend said the pickle juice made the Pickle Back surprisingly refreshing. The Rib Splitter: The blackberry bbq sauce ribs are insanely good. The meat just falls off the bone. The vegetables were seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. Loved the hot skillet that kept the mashed potatoes temperature hot/warm. Hands down, the best ribs in town. Bake-up the Dead: breaded chicken breast served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The chicken was seasoned well and juicy. The house made gravy added another dimension and depth to the already perfectly cooked chicken. Veggie Burger: my friend said it was an excellent veggie burger in that the homemade patty was moist and very filling. Wouldn't miss beef eating this veggie burger. Bead pudding: 2oz of bourbon solidified this light and sweet dessert. My friends liked the bread pudding but I didn't as I usually don't like sweet bread. Hoping For another option on my next visit. There are vegan options so filling a range of eaters. Will be back to try the nachos and another supper meal. Tips: The tables in the back are not as loud with music compared to the front. Hastings Street is now all meter parking so go to the side streets. Weekend open till midnight.

Checked this place out and it is really awesome. It's not actually a dive bar but the theming, decorations, vibe and music is on point. My Heavy Metal loving friends were so happy with this place. They have a decent collection of beers on tap and the food was surprisingly delicious! The BBQ was done really well and the nachos had a decent cheese to chip ratio evenly distributed. Restaurant staff checked in with us frequently for more drinks, food and even thanked us for coming by at the end. I'd definitely swing by again for a future visit!

Have you ever walked by a place several times, and then finally decided to try? That's what we did! Actually we looked at the reviews on Yelp first, thanks everyone for your reviews! The Smoked Chicken nachos is a must try appy dish here. Portion size was good for 6 people, given that they had to serve it on a wooden cabinet door Ever tried a dish recommended by the server? I did and I liked it I never order ribs because it usually turns out dry The BBQ Baby Back Ribs was nicely presented on a skillet. Ribs were fall-off the bone tender and the Jim Beam sauce was tasty. Then there's cornbread, roasted veggies and dirty rice. The dish just hit the spot for Southern comfort food Can't wait to be back! High Points: Easy to find free street parking nearby, servers are very friendly and helpful with the menu, vegetarian and gluten free options as well Low Points: They don't take reservations

We would like to have a brunch before we started our busy day. I found new restaurant on our way to Coquiltam, so just stopped by Jackalope's and gave it a try. We got in and heard loud music inside at noon. We got seated for few mins, the loud music really made us headache! The server couldn't hear our order, we had to repeat 2 times! Bacon and tomatoes Benedict and Bacon and cheddar cheese omelette were ok. But, this is a place for dive bar and comfort food. Sorry and bye.

There's a hell of a lot going on with Jackalope's that totally steals my punk heart. Is it the metal music? The kitschy animal decor? The gregarious service? The delicious renditions of white trash classics (often vegan)? The social commitments carried throughout (like the neuter/spay service that's affiliated)? Hard to say! Imagine this: my 58 year-old grumpy suburban dad entering into Jackalope's with my punk boyfriend and I. At first he was put off; by the end of the visit even he too was smitten. As long as you're not totally put off by metal music (as I see some other reviewers are) this place is for you.

Good food, good service, sketch neighborhood. Do not walk here from downtown. Veggie burger comes lumberjack sized, so bring your appetite! Delicious and gargantuan. Baptized in Beef sandwich was excellent. Superb jus with plenty of horseradish. Drinks were well made. Heavy metal music seems the norm here.

Came in for brunch one Sunday morning. Great options for affordable breakfast and without the long line ups. Really cool atmosphere you can spend hours just looking around. We arrived around 11am, we sat down right away. The coffee wasn't the greatest but I'll let it go. We ordered 2 campfire breakfast I had it with sausage and cornbread. It was good and for $7.99 it was a great deal. Overall it was a good experience.

This place is the atmosphere that the reviews say. A very loud hard rock bar. So let me say I am not at all a hard rock fan. It is music I dislike alott. So I went here just for the food. It is a small place but we were seated right away. Service was friendly and to the point. We did maybe fell a bit out of place because we are in our late 50's and the average age was about 20 and 30. And we both do not have a tattoo and maybe the minimum tattoo was like 5 or so on everyone. So are you getting a visual haha. We both got some skillet meal. Both good but we both agreed that this would be good on a cold Vancouver day. Not a 80 degree day. Just be ready to ROCK loud. Enjoy.

Service is friendly at this small local pub/dive bar. Thankfully, the servers are awesome because I think the cleaning crew has forgotten about this place. The decor is an Applebee's gone wrong with an eclectic grouping of wall hangings and pictures which would qualify as the world's worst garage sale finds. The beer is cold, which is always good. The nachos were fabulous- I mean really good and tasty. We had the vegetarian and the roasted yam, black beans and corn were so good as toppings. We topped our nachos with the house guacamole which was chunky and full of avocado flavor. A great place to just stop and enjoy oneself - just don't invite the hosts from HGTV with you. $

This is a place with character and lots of it! Stopped by on Sunday... like finally. Been having this place bookmarked before I even yelped. To my disappointment, as I stepped in I felt so out of place. By the service and by the diners. Literally everyone there had tattoos, multiple piercings and aren't Asian. Took quite a while before we were acknowledged and given a seat at the bar table facing outside. With our backs towards them I doubt we'd get any service if any at all. Waited for a bit longer and we flagged someone down for the menu. Waited again for our orders to be taken (during the duration of time we even requested to be seated at a table that got freed). The servers seemed more content AFTER we ordered some drinks. We initially wanted to order chicken and waffles but they were out. Instead we got the meat & eggs and Skillet Hash with pulled pork. I was not asked whether I wanted poached or scrambled eggs nor was I asked if I wanted cornbread or rye bread. Luckily what they gave me was what I would have chosen (poached and cornbread). The food came after 45 minutes which we started to grow impatient. The food was good, no doubt about that. But dining out is based on the overall experience so good food can't compensate for the long wait and somewhat unwelcoming service.

Awesome Vibes. Good but expensive nachos. Great drinks. Would recommend. Not many metal bars around but this one definitely passed the test.

It's a metal bar with pretty decent food and beer. Wish there was more heavy metal than death metal though.

My friend is performing that night in the band and has invited me and some other friends down to watch them play. That was pretty cool. Great music! The jukebox is also quite fancy with touch screen buttons. No more traditional type of jukebox. There are pool tables and dart boards too. This pub is over 100+ years old, since it opened in 1907. Amazing how it stands the test of time. Drinks are really cheap according to my drinker friends. I had a cocktail though it was more of a mixer and it tasted quite watered down for that. A Malibu rum pineapple drink. Food is available at the other side and it's run by Cat who is very lovely. She's a one woman show - cashier, server and cook. So be patient as it takes at least 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Affordable prices for the typical pub food of burgers, wings, fries. No table service for the pub. Go to the bar to order and get your drink. The staff is good in clearing the tables though. The place is very down to earth with pretty friendly clientele. No airs here. Just real people here for cheap drinks, good music and dancing. Yes! People actually got up and dance when the band started playing at 9 pm. Love it!

We were a table of 6 to 7 people here. We knew someone who was playing in the band the other night…read moreand that is why we were there. We were very surprised why the pub was not that busy and especially given the night that we showed up was St. Paddy's day. The music was great. The drinks are very cheap here which was great. The pub is close to a skytrain so if you have a little bit too much to drink, you can easily catch the skytrain. I was surprised why there is not a lot of review on food here. The food is separate from the pub. Meaning they are two separate businesses (different owners) but the food window is accessible through the pub. I got the Mushroom burger for $13 and it came with fries. The burger looks small but the beef paddy was a reasonable thickness and size. The burger was actually quite tasty. If you do eat here, I suggest ordering food first because the wait can be awhile. The chef, server, cashier is the same person. We waited like 45 mins for our food but it was not an issue given that we were a big group and we didn't mind chatting and waiting. The pub has the usual pub smell.
