This is a great place to hang out with friends for drinks. They can be quite busy at night especially on the weekend or Friday night. They also have some cheap eats to fill the stomach but don't expect too much. They have a unique vibe atmosphere. This place was the go to place for myself and my friends for many, many years. However, recently they hired this new server. She has the worst customer service skills I have ever seen. Every time we go in there when she's working, the whole vibe of the bar is just off. A group of us were there a couple nights ago, and she was in extra fine form that night. A couple of guys came in and sat down at an empty table. Next thing you know, she literally came running across the bar at full speed telling them to get the F out because they had not waited at the door to be seated. Now, keep in mind, waiting at the door to be seated was never something that happened at this bar. This is your good ole local rock 'n' roll dive bar, this is not a high-end stuck up establishment. So having to wait at the door is not something that most of us are used to having to do here. And the sign that tells you to wait to be seated it is not all that obvious and is usually pushed over to the side. People that do wait at the door sometimes wait there for a very long time too, I see this all the time there. Nobody's actually doing a very good job of monitoring people that do abide by the sign (if they actually see the sign there). This whole new set up is ridiculous. And this server just takes it way too far, it's like her personal mission to make sure that nobody sits down without her approval and she is very hostile about it. To see her yelling and swearing at people is a lot. Just so much anger all the time with this one. She was actually so unhinged she was in tears this last time. Very unprofessional. Very unsettling for a lot of patrons to see as well. Unfortunately, none of us even want to go back to this place that we once considered our favorite hangout. Kind of divey and just up my alley! I noticed this place as we were walking around near our hotel, and wanted to check it out later. The Moose is reminiscent of my local watering hole (called The Goose, lol). Stiff drinks, cheap eats, very entertaining, and hard rock blasting all around! Plus there's a "chandelier" of bras? I never did find out the back story to this, but I'm sure it's very interesting. Service was great! We were lucky to snag the last available seats on a busy Saturday night. But they make do, although all the tables were taken, they would ask people if they would share their space to make room for more patrons. Pretty nice to make that offer, IMO. We weren't that hungry, so we just ordered nachos, which were meh... But the drinks were pretty generous! I was glad we were on foot, otherwise... I've spent enough time in dive bars to have an appreciation for them, but this one emitted the sad desperate stench of regular drinkers with t-shirts stretched tight across growing beer guts. There was one woman and the rest of the dudes looked like regulars immersed in their pints and conversation about the bad classic rock playing in the background. Speaking of stench, any seat at the bar near the back was like having a drink in a urinal. Maybe a previous customer pissed themselves and they didn't notice, or didn't care, but it was unpleasant enough that I didn't linger over my drink. Finished up, got the bill, tipped the server well (she's just making a living) and got the hell out. For those who consider the above appealing, and I know you are out there, change the rating to five stars. read more

Where do I start? There was nothing here to really impress me or make me want to say that 'I want to come here again.' Overall it's just fine. It was late, we'd just finished watching a premiere at VIFF, and it was starting to hit us, that regret of not ordering popcorn. I ordered the Moose Joose lager on tap, it's easy to drink with the crispy dumplings. They had too much batter compared to what I was used to, but it makes for a filling meal choice. Considering how cheap this place is, I was very impressed with how good the food is. I have been here a number of times, and the food has always been excellent -The chicken wings are plump, tasty and you get lots. -The sweet Thai chicken wrap was soooooo awesome! The location was easy to find and I was greeted immediately. They let me have a table despite it being just me. I ordered the steak and of course, had to try the dill pickle wings. This is a five star location because it is an awesome dive bar! If you are expecting squeaky clean and a quiet atmosphere, this isn't your place. When I travel I make it my everliving goal to find some real good dive bars, man did I hit the jackpot! I walked by at least 5 times questioning if I should enter, ya know being a solo traveler. Well, well, well, why did I ever question?! If you too have doubts, don't, this place rocks. It is floor to ceiling dive bar love! From the sticker pillars (you will know you see them,) to the wall of speakers (I assume non-working), to the friendly crowd, this place it worth a try. My keep was friendly and attentive and we carried on a lengthy conversation. (He was from Australia so of course I had to ask him about his life.) The beers were cold and fair priced. And the bathrooms were seedy, every awesome dive bar has seedy bathrooms. It isn't a dive bar if the bathrooms are all squeaky and perfect. So happy with my decision to go to the closed Contemporary Art Gallery because it led me to the Moose. Now, if we've met you'll know I have an affinity for bars called "The Moose." This moose is impressive. The service is quick and friendly, even over lunch and the food is all $5.95 (WHAT?!) with the exception of the $3.95 smaller plates menu. UNHEARDOF. I ordered the amber beer on tap (great choice - easy to drink) and the $5.95 wings in the hot-a-q sauce. Luckily I can eat wings with one hands (even the flats - talent, I know), so I was still able to drink. These wings weren't the largest I've ever had but they were juicy and sauced well and accompanied by ranch. I find myself licking my fingertips an hour later because I can still smell the sauce. Everyone pretty much goes to the Moose for their cheap eats, since everything on their food menu is $5.95. It's a dollar more than The Factory on Granville but the wait is much shorter here. I've always gotten a seat at the bar or a table within like 5 mins when I come here after work. I ordered the burger and fries which I thought was a good portion for the price. I suppose you could order two if you are really hungry, there's a good variety of starters and salads, burgers and sandwiches as well as jambalaya, mac and cheese and even salmon. The only bad thing is that the music is a bit loud (i.e. they don't want you to stay and lounge around) but if you can get one of the patio seats then it won't be so bad. Service is a bit spotty but things do get done - I wasn't really expecting too much but at least the staff are pleasant. Overall, this is a good place if you're looking for a quick and cheap bite to eat downtown. read more

A friend and I wanted to grab a bite to eat without breaking the bank, so we decided to come here. We arrived before 6pm and the restaurant was pretty quiet. We chose a booth in the corner and we were served right away. I ordered the beer special and the Creole chicken. I know the food is only $5.95 but I was still a bit disappointed at how small my chicken was. The food was decent enough but it tasted exactly like what I would make at home - steamed veggies, boxed mashed potatoes.. When we were done eating, our plates were taken away but our empty glasses weren't. Our server came by to see how we were doing, so I asked for the bill. A few minutes later, instead of being given our bills, we were both given new drinks. Thanks to the unnecessarily loud music (which they made louder part way through our dinner when the restaurant got busier) our server didn't hear me properly. It's cheap food but it's not enough to make me come back again. I'd rather spend more money somewhere that gives you a portion size that doesn't leave you hungry and dine somewhere that I don't have to shout my way through dinner. read more

Someone else in my group ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich, and that was disappointing as well. There was hardly any chicken in there, a think slice, probably thinner than a piece of deli meat. Well everything on the menu is $5.95 and every day there is some sort of special. Tuesdays is 25cents wings but Mondays are the best, as its $5.95 for a full rack of ribs. Not bad for the price and the service is fantastic. Can't fault this place on any given night for dinner. You'll have to make sure you arrive early as they sell out of ribs quickly and sometimes you might have to wait a little for a table. They don't do big groups as they only have a few booths and they seat a max of about 6 people. It was lots of big screen tvs and the obvious loud music (from the 80's to metal and punk). It has a run down biker sports bar feel and the clientele that night were majority snowboarders for some reason. The last few times we were here, it was freezing as well as they have the fans going eventhough its snowing outside. Not the most comfortable to eat ribs when I have my winter jacket on but will definitely be back for more ribs. read more

I visited Moose for a short lunch break. Since I was here for myself I couldn't order too much. But since every item was only $5.95 I got two dishes. Compared to its cheap price, the food quality and quantity were pretty decent. Their sandwiches and burgers are served in bread or tortilla wraps with fries, soup or greens. With an extra $1.50 you can substitute for caesar, beet salad or yam fries. It actually took a bit long to get my food during lunch hours although there weren't so many people. For my first dish I got a Pulled Pork Wrap. The wrap had a decent amount of slow cooked pork shoulder with smokey BBQ sauce and a green apple-red cabbage slaw. The pulled pork actually tasted pretty good. It had enough meat inside, and the meat itself had a tasty BBQ flavour. However the meat wasn't soft enough to be considered as pulled pork. The wrap itself wasn't a really big size, but it could be a enough size for lunch, especially with fries. BBQ Back Rib is one of their main menus which consists of slow-cooked pork back ribs finished on the grill with smoky honey Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce, and served with sauteed veggies and potato mash. You can add a half rack with an extra $3 if you want a larger portion. The rib didn't have much meat and it was a bit dry. The sauce was too strong and overpowering so that couldn't tell the quality of the meat. The sauteed veggies were cooked fine. The potato mash was a bit plain but good enough to balance out a strong BBQ flavour. Overall, the meal was satisfying for its cheap price, but not so good based solely on its quality. This place tends to be somewhat slow as the only one server spends most of his time chatting with other customers. Not saying it's a bad thing as some people might enjoy it, but I had to be really patient to get my food and bill during my tight lunch hours. Skip this place, go to the Warehouse instead. It's all part of the same chain, but the Warehouse has it more together. Moose is a $7 menu which is a buck more than the Warehouse, but the service and food is worse. Obviously this restaurant isn't meant to be a "nice place", but the Warehouse is just better in every way. As for the menu and prices, it's pretty much the same as the Warehouse. Always a good time! This is pretty much my fave place for a casual drink anytime, any day... Well, with the exception of Friday and Saturday nights, and only because nothing is worth navigating your way through all the slags and eighteen year old boys trying to act like somebodies by clubbing on Granville. That isn't the Loose Moose's fault though. In fact, if they had their way, i'm sure Iron Maidens mascot, Eddie, would be spitting blood from his mouth and charging at them while 5,000,000 guitars wailed in the background. You know how at most places, you go in during the day and the music is rad, then suddenly at 8pm they dim the lights and put on shitty dinner house music? Well, at the Moose they put on metal and hard rock. Fuck yea! As for food and drinks... Top notch! They make a mean caesar, and everything else is pretty damn spot on too! They have TONS of chicken wing flavors, so if you go on a Wednesday when they're on special, bring your friends! Trust me. I've also always been impressed that even though it's typical pub fare, it's never too greasy and the ingredients are always fresh. If you get a side salad with your meal, it's actual spring mix lettuce and a damn tasty balsamic dressing, not shitty iceberg lettuce with some thousand island bullshit. I've gone here for a lot of family dinners and it's always a hit cause it's so easy to get to and chill. The host looked and acted more like another dude just hanging out. No service when we sat down, bar tenders and servers were pretty busy. Went to use the washroom, one was out of service, the other had a line-up, inside no more paper towel... exited and found some napkins in an open cupboard, took some and right after a waitress scolded "you shouldn't be taking stuff from our .....", "you're out of paper towels in the washroom", "ok, but you shouldn't be.....repeat..." I'm talking to someone without much intelligence, communication skills or hospitality... but hey it's a run down pub playing heavy metal.... (am I not to stereotype?), anyway the whole venue operated in a similar fashion so I may well just not care. Ordered a ciabatta chicken sandwich- tasted like cooked chicken drunk in mayonnaise, sided with fries. Anyone can easily do better at home. Friend had chicken fingers sided with fries. The chicken fingers were actually hot, fluffy. Note: since I was starving the food may have tasted better than I'd usually perceive it. The atmosphere is definitely relaxed, but this isn't a place you'd take your Dad (unless your Dad is Tom Araya). Maybe it was because I came here on game night and couldn't care less about how our boys in blue perform on ice, but this place seriously sucked. The food, the service, the noise, everything about it was not something I'm ever keen on trying again. I ordered their pasta variety, which was described as "Pasta filled with beef and cream cheese and covered in a savory sauce with a side of salad." What, dear reader, could this POSSIBLY be describing but "A slice of Presidents Choice lasagna stuffed in a porcelain cup with two pieces of lettuce covered in basil on the side"? My date got their chicken wrap, which was more like frozen chicken breast, lettuce, and tomato dethawed in a stiff burrito with a side of two peices of lettuce and three strands of carrot. Both salads were topped with a thick dressing of f balsamic vinegar and canola oil. But hers cost an extra $1.50. Seriously, there were about as many vegetables in it as a fast food burger. A valid rebuttal to bad diner food is often that it's not some bland burger fast food." But you would be absolutely wrong, because fast food, even ikea, is more nutritious and tasty than this betrayal will ever be. So we avoided paying for a drink, and if I was feeling more rude I would have stiffed the waitress on her tip as well, instead opting to pay under thanks to some holiday cheer. This is one of the best bars in Vancouver. It's not pretentious, the vibe and atmosphere is casual, the music is great and it's just a great place to hang out for a few pints with friends. There is a great selection of beer in bottles, a good selection on tap and the usual selection of cocktails. The food is here also fantastic! Great nacho's, great meat balls (they call them moose balls). The music here is great, they've got TV's everywhere and play concert DVD's throughout the night. They night we were there, they worked their way through an AC/DC and Def Leppard concert. If you're tired of the usual bar scene in Vancouver this is the place to go! read more

Just off of Granville St. close to the heart of the city the Loose Moose, or Moose Vancouver as they are now calling themselves, has excellent food at an extremely affordable price; almost everything on the menu is priced at $5.95, whether it be an appetizer or a rib dinner. Looks can be deceiving, that is true for the Moose, when you walk in it looks like a run down biker bar with the waitress leather-clad and pierced, but when the food and drinks hit the table you are transported straight to heaven. Everything on the menu for $5.95? Sounds like a decent deal! Came by here on a Sunday afternoon for wings (yes, I know their wings are 25cents on Tuesday, but we were on a Wings Crawl, so Sunday it was). It was pretty quiet when we came in, but the server was super friendly and not at all bored. The five of us ordered a pound of wings each, and some ordered a beer to go with it. They're flavours are pretty good, but their wings are definitely smaller than a few in the area. I ordered the Maple Garlic, and you could definitely taste the maple syrupy flavour. The garlic, not so much. We got a good 12 - 13 wings each, so it was definitely enough to satisfy for $6. I wouldn't mind coming back on a regular day (Sunday special is steak and prawns!), though I think for wings, I would only come back on Tuesdays here. Decor is decent, but a few of the other budget places are a bit nicer, I think. The place is pretty happening in the evenings though, and when they have specials throughout the week. read more
