I've been in town and live a mile from the Village Deli but today was my first visit. I had heard many good things, so my son and I decided to try it before the AU women's basketball game. The place is great and the bar (located in the back) is quaint and friendly. The young lady that helped us was friendly, attentive, and had a smile on her face every time she spoke to us. I had the Deluxe Steak Philly with wedge fries, which are seasoned with lemon paper. It was juicy and delicious and just the right size. My son had a caesar salad with grilled chicken. It was huge and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm excited to go back and spend more time chatting with the other folks at the bar and watching a game. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for over 15 years. the food is good and the service is also good. Today we got here and the music was so loud you could not even hear each other and we could hardly hear the waitress. Also the temperature must have been 60 degrees and we were freezing! We arrived in the middle of the lunch rush and we were still seated very quickly. I appreciated that the host and all the servers seem to work together seamlessly. Even taking the time out to give helpful hints to the new hire in between kitchen runs. We had the southwest rolls, honey garlic chicken sandwich with wedge fries and the catfish platter with beer battered fries. The egg-rolls were a good appetizer, I could not try the sauce because I prefer no heat, but my husband liked it. He LOVED the chicken sandwich which was one of the daily specials and the catfish was really good too. The only difference I would have made is order the wedge fries instead of the beer battered. We will definitely be back here for lunch when we are in this side of town. It can get a little loud so this is not the place for an intimate meal but for lunch with coworkers or on a day off, it's great food. read more

I'm new to the area and moved from a city where I had a really good neighborhood sports bar/restaurant, the kind of a Cheers-like place where you interact with the regulars and the bartender and enjoy a few beers and a good meal. I was super excited to find out I had a place in my new neighborhood that seemed like it would fit the bill and that, as a guy living alone a stone's throw away, I could come to once per week. Let's start with the good. Food is pretty damn good, albeit sides are pretty stingy. Service is quick and fine otherwise. Lots of local sports memorabilia, albeit a serious lack of screens in the main dining room. Here's what drops me all the way down to one star: why, if you are in the customer service industry, would you advertise your political leanings so overtly? I don't want to sit at your bar and see "let's go Brandon" or "end of Obama countdown" stickers. I would find it equally dumb if they had Harris/Walz stickers, but at least it wouldn't be a euphemism for "F*** Joe Biden," which besides being absolutely disrespectful is utterly crass. You lost a potential $3,000/year customer because you had to be a d-bag. Nice. I won't be back, not even on someone else's dime. read more

I have a confession to make. It's a heavy one. Cuts deep. Might even bring tears to your eyes. I have been in Augusta for 15 years and just last week I made my first visit to Village Deli. I know, it's shameful. Disappointing. How is that even possible? The many times I have passed Daniel Field either heading towards downtown or en route to the Mall and never, ever having stopped for a meal. Like why am I even allowed to have a Yelp profile? Some might think this is overdramatic, wondering why I make sure a big deal of my delayed presence through those hallowed doors. But if you're asking, you must not know. See this place was the winner of Augusta's Beer and Burger Week, two years in a row! This place has been around since 1988! This place uses only the best of ingredients and makes just about everything that can be made in-house, in-house! And when you scan the walls you'll see they are everyone's biggest fans. Local schools, AU, USC, Clemson, jersey's and posters from all over the region. Of course there's stuff from the Masters and even a street sign that says "Welcome to Augusta" (not gonna ask where they got that). The staff here act like you're a regular and treat you like family they actually want to spend the holidays with. I know, I sound a tad smitten. And I am. Just know this is not hyperbole. You've read this far and I have yet to mention the food. First, let me focus on that sweet tea. Now there's dirty water with a pinch of sugar and then there's people who know what they're doing. Here you will find the latter. Like syrup to the lips and tongue, it could have been my dessert (had I had room for any). I went for the French Dip (love some au ju) and a soup of the day, chicken and poblano. But I began with a app, Bleu chips. These house made potato chips come with barbecue sauce and scallions atop and a bleu cheese dipping sauce that is heavy on the bleu. I made sure that plate was empty before starting on the main course. The sliced roast beef, provolone, and onions were perfectly balanced and calling out to be dipped. And dip I did. I altered though between that and the soup, as I desired neither to grow cold. The soup was delicious and oh so creamy. The shredded chicken with the diced poblano and cheese made me long for a cold Autumn day. Both of these dishes could be a meal for some, but when I come for a first visit I come swinging. (and maybe the second and third and...well I do like food.) I had hoped for the strength to order dessert, as the lemon zest cake beckoned me, but sometimes you have to know when you've been bested. But don't worry, I will be back. And it will not be 15 years before I do. read more

My first experience with Village Deli was via delivery order using Waitr. I ordered D-Lite salad with fried chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were just ok, but the rest of the salad was good. My co-worker who lives near by the Village is a huge fan and encouraged me to explore the rest of the menu. The menu seems expansive - from potstickers, to Philly cheesesteaks, and even quesadillas - it looks like Village can help with just about whatever craving you may have. I said well you didn't say anything when I asked you.."She yelled.."Yes, I did" Heather C was apparently having a bad day before we got there and was clearly agitated and very unprofessional. Update: Heather, the gentleman you refer to is my husband and we have eaten there before but rarely at the bar. He said you always seem to have an attitude. We normally go there after our VA appointments because the food and service were always good. After reading the reviews its clear to see YOU have a pattern of poor customer service to certain clientele. He said all the times he has been there before you never mentioned military or discount and you have never seen or asked for his ID. So miss me with that LIE that you didn't need to see his ID because you had seen it prior. I will never recommend your restaurant to incoming soldiers looking for a good place to eat, specially those who YOU clearly have an issue with. As a soldier it is sad to know that many of the rights we fight for everyone are often not extended in return. I pray you address the concerns many of the reviews have identified as they seem to be based on facts. It's sad to know that you as the owner of this establishment have such a nasty, unprofessional attitude while your staff were very professional. I will never tell another soldier to go there for a great meal just because of YOUR personal grievance with cert clientele. Do better! read more

I love this place and the food they serve! Hands down, the best soup, salad and sandwiches you can find in Augusta. The specials are really something to look forward to. Try the catfish! I've been wanting to try this place for a while. So I popped in one day. Sophie, the server, was excellent. She was very friendly, she knew the food, and she acted in a professional way. I ordered the fried mushrooms. They come with a nice ranch, or you can get a horseradish dip. I opted for the horseradish. Those mushrooms are some of the best I have ever put in my face! I also got the Deluxe Philly Cheese, which is cooked with so much beef it falls out of the bun. It also has mushrooms, onions, a good cheese, and red & green bell pepper. Comes with a side of fries. That sandwich is well worth driving across town in heavy traffic for! It is not too large, nor too small. I can guarantee it will keep your belly button from rubbing on your backbone for a long time. The one spider in the iced tea......but the Deli still gets 5 stars. I ordered the Fish & Chips. Catfish is not normally associated with Fish & Chips, but I thought I might give it a try. The fish was good. Fried up little nuggets. But they came with potato chips! Really? Soggy ones at that. I could bend one of the potato chips double, and it wouldn't break. But they gave me an order of fries on the house. No malt vinegar, no tartar sauce. The unsweet tea was great, and Sophie kept it coming. The one thing the menu lacks is a good Chicago dog, but I will be back to the Village Deli. read more

We went to Augusta, Ga to attend our friend's wedding. So, on the night before, we wanted to get dinner and this place was recommended to us by our friend and by one of the hotel staff. So, we gave it a go with great anticipation. After starting with some chips and salsa, my wife Kathey chose the salmon platter, which came with rice and steamed broccoli. My pick was the hamburger steak platter, which featured grilled onions and mushrooms over top along with some brown gravy. I also picked the loaded potato salad along with some fresh steamed green beans. The food wasn't up to what we were led to believe it would be. The salmon was dry and the rice was bland but the broccoli was done correctly. My Hamburg steak was nothing more than a hamburger and the potato salad has a tart taste that I didn't expect. The freshly steamed green beans tasted like they were fresh out of the can. Needless to say, this place didn't do it for us. I think it's more of a sandwich type shop. It's safe to say that I can scratch this place off of my list. The service was great though, on a very busy Friday night. read more

Lived in Augusta my whole life and have been coming here for a long time. Last night was arguably one of the worst visits. Don't think it's one aspect of the business that failed but a combination of shitty kitchen management and front of house management. Arrived at 6:30 ordered 2 fried catfish plates, dad ordered a deli sandwich and mom ordered a small house salad. After realizing we were not eating the waitress came to our table. All while watching take out orders roll out the door. At 7:30 we received only part of our food. Fish and fires were cold, dad didn't get all his food. I used to really love this place and in my last review I called it affordable. But after my last to go order I'm not sure that I will be coming back for a long time. I placed a to go order based on the menu that is posted on their website but was shocked at the total when I picked up the order. The dozen wings have gone from $11 to $17 and it's not updated on their website. The small order of fries was way too small for the price. I was also charged an extra 50 cents for extra blue cheese and didn't even receive it. On top of that there is now a $6 fee for ordering to go, which was not disclosed to me when I placed the order over the phone. read more

I am SO disappointed. Any other time, this place would get five stars from me. I usually love the food, love the selection, love the atmosphere. But tonight... oooooohhhhh tonight: My mom and I were all the way out in South Augusta. I had a craving for an egg salad sandwich on a croissant, and had been thinking of Village Deli for hours. We didn't have a lot of time, because my mom had to be somewhere within an hour. We decided to come way out of our way (we live in Evans) to get dinner at Village Deli to go- even though there were a number of places along our way where we could have gone. Most everything went by without a hitch. Get our order in a box, checked it out, everything was there (except the ranch and my sweet tea, which we remedied easily by pointing out that we hadn't received it) and so we left to come home. We make the 20 minute drive home, get here, and everything checks out... except my mom's crab cake sandwich. It is SO burnt. My mom hadn't eaten all day, and was really looking forward to her dinner. She makes a phone call to speak with the manager... and the manager cops an attitude with her! My mom is obviously upset, but that is no reason to be rude to a customer who is upset about an order that was messed up and that cannot be fixed that night. The manager told my mom to "stop yelling". I was listening to the conversation and my mom was not yelling. The manager said "it was an honest mistake". Really? That's funny, because I waited tables for YEARS and never took a burnt piece of anything out to any of my customers unless they had specifically requested it. He did offer a credit, which we accepted (and hopefully they'll get a better review next time)... and then hung up on my mother without saying goodbye or apologizing! I usually love this place, and hate to give them a bad review, but when you deserve one, you deserve one. And I'm uploading a photo of my mom's sandwich so you can see that this wasn't just a "simple honest mistake"- there's no way you can put that in a box without realizing hey, it's burnt. Village Deli is great at what they do. The burgers, the sandwiches, the fries are all fantastic. On this occasion I got the Pimento Cheese Burger with Lemon-Pepper Wedge Fries. My burger was cooked and delivered as requested (cooked medium with no mayo). Village has one of the best burgers I've eaten in Augusta. Given the party of 9 I was with, the food came very fast. The staff was all very polite and good at what they do. Everyone's order was correct and drinks always filled. One hint, they get busy around noon during the week, so if you can manage to get there around 11:30am, they'll have you fed in no time. read more

I ordered food via waitr and I am so disappointed with the quality of food I got. I ordered a grilled chicken platter with pasta salad and broccoli. The broccoli was so over cooked it was like baby food, there was no pasta salad i got a Caesar salad that was drenched in dressing. The picture attached is the grilled chicken that still had red in it and it had no flavor at all. I had to cook the food as u can see from the second picture of me cooking it up in the pot. I ordered the soup of the day and i assume it was a seafood bisque. Omg that this was soooo think i had to add water to it and put it on the stove as well. The wings were good so they do deserve the one star they got. My husband got the chicken stir fry platter and that was just a flop as well however he did say the spring roll was good. His chicken was not cooked through either and broccoli was also like kids food. I would not suggest these items to anyone looking to eat here.
