Husband and I stopped by here to try something new. We were greeted somewhat promptly when we entered. There's no designated greeter. Just one of the wait staff will get to you when they can. We chose to sit outside as it was freezing inside. We ordered the chicken strips and Tavern Burger. The chicken strips were seasoned well, but the breading kept falling off. The honey mustard that came with it was delish. The coleslaw side was bland and the shoestring fries were under seasoned. The Tavern Burger was fine, but there's no shortage of good burgers in this town. I also had the Strawberry Mule and while it is good, it's quite ginger forward. If you like that then it's the drink for you. All in all, the service was good though we were left without silverware and napkins for a portion of our meal. We tried this place for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff were great and very friendly. I appreciated the ambiance and little table lamps. They offered some nightly specials for appetizers and dinner. The trio which is a regular menu item, was delicious. I really enjoyed the bourbon glazed sauce on the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Most of their sauces are homemade. To include, the delicious mid sauce that comes on the burger. When we got there it was around 5pm on a Saturday night and it was not crowded, however by the time we left it was filling up quickly. You may want to make a reservation. I don't know what it is with me and only visiting Midtown Tavern about once a year, but I need to be a end to that practice. Eleven months since my last visit, which was amazing (see previous review), on a chilly Wednesday evening. I love the outdoor seating and will always recommend it, but the lower temperatures called for inside seating. And I am so glad it did. Upon being seated in the back section I had the realization that I had always enjoyed my visits on the patio. But the inside has quite the elegant ambiance and eloquent touches you miss while being out by Central Avenue. And obviously, it was more peaceful. I was in a burger mood and the Midtown Burger was just what I needed. Smash burger with two 4 ounce patties, American cheese, fresh leaf of lettuce, slice of tomato, shaved onion, Mids sauce, and a brioche bun. And comes with fries (that's right-not a extra charge). I added a side of brussel sprouts just because I wanted to try them, and my only regret was not making it a small plate. The ginger vinaigrette balanced out the slightly bitter and nutty flavor that is brussels, and the slight char on the edges were magnificent. The burger and fries did not last long either. Truly a work of art and one that left me too full to try a dessert (I know-hard to believe). I do hope they consider serving NA beers and/or Hop Water in the future. My sister and I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. They were quite busy, but just had a table open up for two and we were able to be seated right away. We ordered an appetizer and a couple of drinks and our food and drinks came in a timely manner. Then we ordered our main meal, I got to their burger and my sister got their steak fries. The food was delicious and served fresh. The atmosphere was chill however they had a party come in later and it got rather loud and hard to hear our conversation. This is a nice place to go enjoy some drinks with friends. I came in for dinner and our server was really nice, and attentive. The craft cocktails we tried were amazing. Unfortunately 2 out of the 3 things we ordered lacked. I ordered the steak frites cooked medium rare, and it came out almost well done. They did remake it and the second time around was better. We ordered the pork dinner and the meat was way over cooked/chewy and flavorless. Unfortunately we did have to send it back. When we received the bill they did not take it off of the check even though we barely took 2 bites out of it. Until I said something and they took $11 off. It was about a $20 plate. Aside of that, we did enjoy ourselves. Will consider coming back for drinks, but definitely not for the food. read more

My young daughter decided on the restaurant for her 14th birthday. I did my best but at the end. I ended up having to dismiss myself from the table. It was about 7:45 and their closing time was 9 or 10. The server tried to be patient and kind but it seemed like it was hard for her to pull off. We asked for 2 waters with no ice. She brought one with ice and one without. Ok. People are allowed to make mistakes. We did have to remind her that we were waiting for the cup with no ice she said she'd bring out. Friday was my very first visit at Midtown Tavern. It's a nice spot. I dined on a night of a huge party in the back so when I walked in I was met with the volume of conversation high. The food had potential to be amazing but it wasn't hot when it came to my table. I didn't send it back. I barely ate my steak nor fries. Again, this is not anything bad on the restaurant itself. We were told it was due to the very large party in the back and quite a few of the party being disgruntled for whatever reason. This made a domino effect in the kitchen. I would love to try the place again in hopes there isn't a party going on. I do believe it has potential. read more

First off. I love the interior. It's very nice. They have a few tvs scattered around. Im sure that will be helpful come fall. We brought our four-year old and there were other children so kid-friendly. (We came around 5ish on Saturday.) We ordered two Spicy Paloma. I expected it to be spicier. It's grapefruit heavy. Personally not a $12 cocktail. She ordered that margarita. In her words, "Very solid." I agree. They use Espolón. We had the Twice Cooked Wings. They were supposed to have a sweet & spicy chili sauce. The wings did not give sweet or spicy. They were just wings. I'm sure how they were cooked but they lacked texture so likely baked. Taste was above average. We both ordered the Smash Burger and we ordered the chicken tenders for our son. So I enjoyed the burger. Oh yeah. It was 100% not a smashburger. It was just a a double-quarter pounder. Patties weren't smashed at all. No crisp edges. I do wish it was piping hot bc who doesn't like piping hot food? But it was a little warm. I don't think the buns were warmed or toasted but they were good quality. I think brioche. The fries were pretty cold. Not even warm. On all three plates. My spouse sent hers back. The replacement fries came back in less than 5 minutes. They were crispy and very good. We LOVE fresh hand-cut fries. Lastly, the chicken tenders. I ate one. Not bad, not the best. Above-average. I definitely respect them bc they are hand-breaded. So I like the texture and crisp on them. Could have used some seasoning. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I do hope they have a better beer selection by football season. Definitely room for improvement but none of the complaints were major issues. And it was literally, the soft opening weekend. Can't complain - food was pretty good. Very select menu. We ordered the pimento cheese, fried oysters, and Brussels sprouts to start. Finished with the fried oyster sandwich, steak sandwich, and the steak chimichurri. Fries are the only side dish but we're quite yummy for the shoestring style, cooked perfectly. The restaurant was busy, there were a lot of birthdays going on while we were there but the service was still amazing. We went around 8 pm on a Friday night, sat in the back room of the restaurant and when we were leaving the front of the restaurant and outside was absolutely packed! The restaurant on the inside was super cute and calming, even with multiple tvs in the back room you were still able to have a nice conversation with friends. Since we ordered a sampling of everything and the menu is very limited I'm not sure whether we will be going back or not, but it was definitely worth the visit. read more

Last night was our second time eating at Midtown Tavern and it was vastly different from the first time. It began with two wrong soda for my teens, which the waitress immediately said she knew she had done. Odd, and sadly an omen for how service would go for the night. Why knowingly bother to serve the wrong drinks? She took our appetizer order but never came back for the actual dinner order, and we sat so long I think she forgot to put the order in. When she dropped the appetizer I initiated ordering and she seemed surprised, again odd. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it came out so long before my teens' burgers I began to wonder if she was coming back. She finally dropped their meals and promptly left. All the plates had cold, old fries and one missing condiment so I got her attention again to ask for fresh fries and ranch. We sat and sat and sat. She finally slow walked out with one serving of fries, but it took at least 15 minutes. I asked if aioli was the sauce on the chicken sandwich, I couldn't remember, she said yes and I asked for more. The sandwich was cooked very well, but the chicken didn't have any flavor and I didn't see any condiment. The bacon was nice and crisp and the grilled chicken was moist. The top brioche bun was good, but for some reason one side of the bottom bun was wet. When I realized it was soggy that we had come too far and I had already had to flag her down to refill the sodas, and later AGAIN for my drink. If you have ever served, you know empty drinks with meals is a cardinal sin and super easy to take care of for guests---especially when you are holding up the drink station while you chat with coworkers. I literally had to flag her down for EVERYTHING, which was embarrassing and made us appear difficult, and we were absolutely not. I have served, bartended and owned a fine dining restaurant, so I appreciate it can be very hard with ugly or difficult customers. I was kind and patient at every interaction; however, it did not help. Remember the dry chicken sandwich? SHE said it had aioli and after ANOTHER EXHAUSTING wait for her it tasted and looked like straight mayo. I have successfully worked the front and back of the house owning a restaurant, so I know aioli and that was straight mayo, or the worst aioli ever made. AGAIN I had to motion to get her attention and she got rude and smirked saying it was aioli, and her chef had made it. I didn't believe her, but when she laughingly snickered and was condescending I knew this was the end. Every single meal was either missing, cold, or wrong---and the wait for correction took FOREVER. We were there just after 6 pm and it was not busy until we were leaving. I believe she may have had one other small table behind us, so she wasn't in the weeds. Honestly, she seemed like we interrupted her night out, and clearly doesn't know basic restaurant service when you drop food and there are just three empty glasses on the table. It was annoying and I feel like I worked hard just trying to get our dinner. The lack of hustle meant no drinks when our food finally came, no hot fries when our sandwiches were hot, cold chicken when the extra wrong condiment came, and attitude when I dared ask ONCE AGAIN for help with service. I NEVER, EVER tip less than 20% because I have hustled in the food industry and it's tough.. The smirk and eye roll after begging our entire meal for SERVICE was it for me. I left just under 15%, because I was paying cash and wasn't going to WAIT SOME MORE for her to come back with change. Our first visit was a Sunday and we had the tall young man, who we saw running around last night, and he was excellent! He clearly works for tips and understands customer service. The young blonde waitress last night definitely was more interested in talking to coworkers than serving guest. We live close and initially were stoked for a nice neighborhood tavern, but it was a lot of money to throw away last night. I was there to celebrate with my children and she truly ruined the night, and I wasted money. I could have done a drive through for cold fries, wrong drinks, and no customer service--Twice for over $80!!! Super disappointed. One star was generous for last night. read more

I did not get a good vibe about this place when my family and I entered. The employees stared as if my family and I had two heads when we entered. Eventually we were seated and the first thing the waitress said was they were out of cheese, salmon, burgers and the kitchen was closing in 20 minutes even though the closing time shows 10 pm. Came for a early dinner on Sunday around 5pm. It wasn't busy and was seated right away. The server was polite and attentive and made excellent recommendations. The restaurant was dark and mostly lit by these small lamps (am curious when winter comes if they will have different lighting). We tried 3 appetizers may favorite was the brussle sprouts. They were crispy and tossed in a refreshing ginger dressing. I also enjoyed the fried oysters and the spinach dip with pita bread but will like get the brussle sprouts in the future. They have a limited menu which is good. There's not too many decisions to make...I opted for the steak sandwich which was really good but a tad salty. Looking forward to go back. Although I must say if you have parking anxiety like me might be hard....not sure where to really park.....I parked in the lot next door that belongs to other businesses but they looked closed since it was Sunday night. read more

Really enjoyed my dinner. The salad with goat cheese was refreshing and a perfect aperitif. I loved the French twist. It was made with perfect balance of spirits and sweetness. We arrived in town later in the evening, so needed a place open late. This place was open to midnight, and the menu looked amazing, so we headed over. We got there at 9:30 and were told that the kitchen closed at 10, but were happy to seat us as long as we placed our order before 10. Cool. We quickly ordered what we had planned, having looked at the menu ahead of time. This is where things took a turn. First, they were out of the apricot pork loin. Then, they were out of the other entree that we had planned, the fried oyster BLT. Ordered a steak sandwich, to later be told...out of that too. And the steak frites. I was recommended the hamburger (there really wasn't much left), which I could have gotten anywhere, but ok. Unfortunately, grease dripped out of the burger when I picked it up, and the fries were also greasy and not crispy. I ate about a quarter of the burger and a couple of fries, but couldn't continue. Let the server know, she apologized, but took no further action. The bar looked fun, with a nice-looking drink menu. The server was very friendly and personable. Definitely not a place for late-night food though, would have liked to try our original selections to evaluate, but won't be coming here again. read more

Picture this... it's Father's Day and you're looking for something different or new... this is it! So we started with the spinach artichoke dip and wings... the dip was bubbly and creamy and the pita points were perfectly toasted and seasoned. They only have 2 flavors of wings but we wanted to try the sweet and spicy chili sauce and the Buffalo so we got the wings naked with the sauce on the side. The wings were fried just right crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauces were both good but I'm not a fan of sesame flavor so I opted to stick with Buffalo. For dinner we all got something different. We had the steak sandwich, Fried Oyster BLT, Midtown Burger, and Chicken Tenders. The steaks sandwich was mmmmm chef's kisses... tender, juicy, and the red wine mushroom jam was a subtle but surprisingly good match. The Fried Oyster BLT was delicious. the oysters were fried just right and the remoulade was top tier with a hint of horseradish that paired perfectly with the oysters. The burger was fresh. My daughter ate it pretty fast and didn't say much so that's a good sign that she liked it LOL!!! The Tenders were a good size and the batter tasted familiar like old fashion homemade fried chicken and they were perfectly crispy. The fries came with each meal. The fries were fresh cut almost shoestring potatoes and they were also very good. My daughter swapped out her slaw for cucumber salad which was also tasty; sweet and sour with a hint of dill. Lastly, we split the Apple cobbler and that too was really good with a dollop of fresh made whipped cream. This place is a hidden gem which I'm sure won't stay hidden for long. The service was great! our server was very attentive and quickly accommodated requests, never let our glasses go empty, and just generally nice. I'm pretty sure the manager or owner stopped by to check on us. He was friendly and didn't say much but did seem genuinely interested in what we thought about the food. The restaurant itself has a dark moody vibe but in a good way. There was just enough lighting overhead to see where you were going and they had the most adorable little lamps on each table so that you could see your food well. All in all we enjoyed everything... it was a pleasurable experience and I'd definitely go here again. So good we went twice in 24 hours. Got the Steak Frites both times. Was skeptical that you could get an 18 dollar steak but it was exceptional. Atmosphere is quaint. We have been looking forward to going to Midtown Tavern since we found out about the new restaurant in town. We were pleasantly shocked about the atmosphere when we walked in, felt upscale and classy. Even felt a little underdressed that night. Our server was sweet and helpful. The bartender did seem occupied with the women at the bar so our drink orders took longer than we liked. The food tasted great and was very fresh. We were very satisfied with our meals and apps. This is the last place you need to visit. I felt out of place immediately I walked in. The front staff had to run to the back I guess to make sure that we could be seated . I always thought the front desk attendant is always aware whether tables are available or not!! I guess she had to ask if it is okay to seat us!! When we were sat down one of us ordered hot water with a slice of lemon, but we were told hot water was not available .. now how does a restaurant not have hot water to put in a cup???? We understood these actions and knew it was time to and walk out. We found somewhere else to eat. My dollar is just as good as everyone else's.. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30 and were seated near the front of the restaurant across from the bar area. Although the menu is limited, the service was great and the food was very good. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly. My husband declared his Smashburger was excellent and the shoestring fries were great. Just wish we had opted for an outside table because it was unbelievably loud inside. With 5 TV's, a large group at the bar and service at other tables, we could not hear each other speak across the small table. We'll come back when the noise level is reduced. read more
