Been going to Dr. Jackman for probably about 10 years at this point. My husband even switched to her because of how knowledgeable and thorough she was. She saw something and referred him to an ophthalmologist, and apparently it runs in his family. And now our whole family goes to her. She's very honest, has a wholistic approach to your health, has a great eye for finding fun new frames that suit your face, and any additional tests she offers she lets you know the cost and her reasons for offering them. Over a year ago I was searching for an optometrist on Yelp and after reviewing many of them I chose Dr. Jackman. The reason being was that I had read through so many of Dr J's Yelp reviews and was so impressed by how she and her staff had treated their patients. My family and I have been going to Dr. Jackman for years. We did leave for awhile to explore other options but we returned because I find that Dr. Jackman's examinations are really thorough. She is excellent in pediatrics as well and assisted me in diagnosing my daughter when she was younger. She also did not hesitate to refer me to further specialists when it fell outside her scope of expertise. Worst optometry experience I have had in 15 years of glasses. Dr. Jackman feels incompetent and makes you uncomfortable as a patient. Test requests feel like they are nickel and diming you (it will be out of pocket even if you bring insurance). During one night game, I was playing in the outfield and I was having trouble seeing the ball come off the bat. Also, when the ball approached me it seemed to be "knuckling" or shaking. It was honestly the first time I have ever been afraid of the ball hitting me in the face while in the outfield. This happened throughout the game and for the next week as well. Soon after I had my eyes checked by an optometrist who prescribed soft contact lens; this fixed the problem of vision but presented a new problem, dryness and severe eye irritation, especially when in places like Arizona and Nevada. Four years passed, during which I used gallons of eye drops and fought with the soft lens every morning, and then I met Dr Janice Jackman. She told me about Ortho-K; I gave it a shot. I was very skeptical but to my surprise, after the very first night using Ortho-K lens I could see 20/15 again. Without contacts that next day I saw better than my wife did with her contacts in. Before when I would wake up I would have to squint to see the time on the clock, but now from the very moment I open my eyes in the morning I can see everything. Dr. Jackman perfected my lens and I have been using Ortho-K now for over 2 months. Currently I do not wear contacts or glasses during the day at all and my vision is perfect all day long! My baseball games are much more enjoyable and my long rides with my cycle group are better as well. Now the wind is a non-issue. Every year since 2012, I have received glasses and an eye exam from Jackman Optometry. They are simply honest, helpful, and reliable. Now that I have moved away from SoCal, I am realizing how difficult it is to search for an optometry office that will bill you fairly, treat you with respect always, provide trustworthy eye services, and get you the frames that you want. Making an appointment and calling with questions has always been so easy at Jackman -- her staff is excellent and their website/phone service have never failed me. Every visit, I got what felt like a long yet thorough eye exam with an assistant using very interesting technology and then personal time with the optometrist to determine what lenses are best for me. The office never forced me to buy things I didn't want and never acted as a salesman. They helped me use my insurance to the fullest and made suggestions to the type of lenses best for long-term eye health. When I didn't like their frame selection, they didn't hesitate to order the ones I wanted. Sometimes they even ordered multiple so I could choose the one I wanted -- they simply put the ones I didn't buy into their store of frames for sale. They explained Lasik to me and although I chose not to, they were not pushy or rude about it. Sometimes I needed my frames adjusted for position or the nose pieces got bent out of shape -- I would call and they would let me stop by whenever. They also are open to filling up lenses cleaning solution every time I drop by. Now that I live in the Bay Area, I have seriously considered flying down to get my eye exam and frames since a search for a new office is such a pain. I really love this doctor. She is amazing and so is her staff. She has taken care of my entire family since 2014. My husband has a rare eye condition and she has gone out of her way to take care of him. She has even stayed after hours to make sure he would be seen. (Difficult patient).. She has improved his life because he had been seeing blurry for years before he got the diagnosis from her. She was able to address his eye problem and now is able to see much better. Even though he will live with this condition for the rest of his life and might even need a transplant. For now his life has improved and is able to work and be a provider for our home. She will find the best options possible for your glasses or contacts to ensure you have clear vision and has done a wonderful job fitting me for contacts even though I have astigmatism in my both eyes. She cares about the health of your eyes as well and had great options for helping alleviate my dry eyes. She also went the extra mile when I had a scratch on my cornea and made sure I was seen by a cornea specialist right away to prevent any permanent damage to my eye. Been coming to Dr. Jackman for almost a decade. She is very good at what she does and her staff is first rate (Carissa and Xochilt). Their level of professionalism and service is something that's hard to find nowadays. My eye exams are a little complicated due to my dry eyes but Dr. Jackman has always been able to give the right prescription. On the very rare few occasions that a lens adjustment had to be made, she and her staff was always there to correct the issue. They use a very good lab for their lenses and they make sure the quality of your lenses and total workmanship are the way they should be even before they release them. Furthermore, my frames have always come out unscratched and show great care in handling. The covid lockdown has been especially tough on the supply chain (lenses that is). My lenses took a little longer but they were on top of the entire process and in the end, my glasses were perfect! Thanks so much Dr. Jackman, Carissa, and Xochilt (Mariel?) for all you do. Dr. Jackman is the best optometrist I have ever had. Unlike Costco and LensCrafters, Dr. Jackman cares and does a thorough examination. I had a bad eye infection one year where I couldn't wear contact lenses anymore, and glasses give me headaches. With no good alternatives, she advised me on LASIK instead. I am always weary on surgeries, but she walked me through the whole process from initial consultation to follow-up care. LASIK has been a god send, no more glasses and contacts for me. I've been to many optometrists in the past and with most, you just get a basic eye exam and walk out with your prescription for glasses. But things at Jackman Optometry were very different. The exam I received here was thorough. Lasted a bit longer than your typical exam but it was great that they take the time to check your eyes and vision in depth. I have had some issues with one of my eyes and the doctor took the time to meticulously inspect it and offer advice for treatment. I'm glad I came here because now I have a better idea in how to proceed with my eye care. Their prices for glasses are reasonable. Nothing exorbitant. Good prices and they accept most insurances. read more
