Classic diner feel with a lot of local hype. Always looking to try homemade hash and this place has it! Unfortunately, I ordered the hash omelet and there was about a tablespoon of hash in the eggs of omelet and none as the actual filling of the omelet. Would not even have known it was there if the waitress did not tell me. I asked after about 3 bites and expressed my disappointment which was met with a phony sympathetic sigh and her telling me that I should order the side of hash next time I was in if I wanted more. Paid my bill and walked out shortly after that. Will not be returning since it's standard diner fare which can be had elsewhere and the service was lacking. read more

Sad sad day. I used to come to Jacks all the time, I usually loveee their breakfast. Today my food came out with a long piece of blonde hair (mine is short curly and brown) I told the waitress I didn't want my food anymore (no one in this establishment wears hair nets) and my boyfriend no longer felt comfortable eating his (rightfully so) We asked to be charged for our orange juice. We got our bill, they tried to charge us for the breakfast he did not eat, and not only that, the menu state 8.99 yet the breakfast was being charge for $11.00. I explained to the ladies who work there we are not going to pay for a meal we did not eat and she asked me well why did you order the food?!?!? Lmao um because I was hungry why aren't you wearing a hair net? I showed her the piece of blonde hair and she tried to tell me the hair belonged to me . It just so happened cops were coming in during all of this and the waitress smiles like "do you want to tell them that". Unprofessional beyond words. I'm getting threatened with the cops because I didn't want to eat your food full with hair? I will never come here again. They really need to work on customer service here read more

This diner is a wonderful throwback to a simpler age. This classic 1950's original structure is maintained with time machine integrity. Inside, you will find friendly, efficient servers, a menu with plenty of choices to fit anyone's taste or mood, generous portions, and deliciously prepared offerings. Called them to ask if they could accommodate 14 people arriving in 20 minutes. They said come on over. We actually arrived with 18 people and were a bit reluctant to enter once seeing how small the diner was. However, they made it work for us without a problem. The service was very good for such a large party in such a small place. The quality of the food was great and our glasses were never empty! Great Job! read more

Jack's is under new management. I'm so glad, because I love old diners and this one is a little gem. They just reopened on August 25 and it's really cleaned up. They even repaved the parking lot! I had a grilled cheese on whole wheat with a slice of tomato, cole slaw, a pickle and a cup of coffee for about $6.00 and it was great! I met the new owner, Adan, and he said they're open every day from 6am to 9pm. The signs outside are kind of small, but he said they're working on putting up a bigger sign. read more

I've come to jacks before for breakfast and loved it! However my boyfriend and I went here for lunch today and it was awful. After our food came no one came back, we never had more drinks, my food wasn't cooked right and the mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of the trash. If I wasn't a server myself I would've complained and not paid. If you go here don't get anything except breakfast. read more

Although this diner may look run down on the outside, that is not the case when you step in! The inside of this diner is very clean and has that old time classic feel to it. They have a wide selection of classic diner food including a kids section on the menu. The average price for a adult meal is about 8.99, and a kids meal about 4.99. One of my favorite items on the breakfast menu is the "Farmers Omelet" (Mushrooms, Sausage, Tomato, Onion& Green Pepper) which comes complete with a large portion of Potatoes and 4 pieces of Yummy buttery toast! Some items are a bit over seasoned or salty, so make sure you tell them go light on the salt. My favorite desert there is a slice of "Banana Cream Pie" its so creamy and has a nice banana flavor to it (not to strong, or to subtle). Another small complaint is the food takes a while to cook, do I would recommend calling before hand to place your order. Other than that I would recommend this for sure! read more

The service at Jack's is great. The wait staff is very friendly and patient. Stick with comfort food basics (pancakes, eggs, waffles, ham sandwhich, etc.) and you won't go wrong. The pancake condiments ( syrup, jelly etc.) is in packets so that's a little negative. Otherwise breakfast was good. The let the location and the outside turn you off. Jack's Diner Is a great diner! Ive been going here since I was a little girl, and to this day I love this place. It has a home grown feel to it, not like these other diners popping up, that are over done and try way to hard. Jack's has fair prices and great food, and even better! they deliver now, I can order food at work. They have a polite staff, and I am always happy with their service. I hadn't been to Jack's before the new owners opened. I went because I've enjoyed the Ravena Diner, which is owned/run by the same people. Mostly out of loyalty and curiosity, I went for breakfast today and enjoyed divine Eggs Benedict with regular bacon instead of Canadian bacon) and delicious home fries. The diner is as clean as a whistle, the ladies room sparkles, and the service is excellent. It was great to see Karen, a familiar face from the Ravena Diner. I plan to go again and again. Reviews from before the new owners can be confusing because this is totally new .....and not greasy! read more

Ahh, Jack's diner. What can I say... this place is alright? I have been here a good number of times. The food here is from average-decent. It can also be a little dirty at times. There is something to be said about being a good diner. It requires a few untouchable elements. Such requirements include free flowing coffee, fast turn over of tables, waitresses that call you "hon", a certain atmospheric warmth, clicking and clacking of ceramic coffee cups, and above all simple American food done right and big at an affordable price. Jack's Diner encompasses all of this. Being from New Jersey, I love a good diner. In the Albany area, I did not know they were hard to come by. Capital City Diner is ok, and the Gateway Diner was met with a resounding "meh", but Jack's....Jack's is different. This place has the luxury of being in the area long enough to know exactly what to do and how to do it. I ordered a Sausage Egg and Cheese Sandwich with homefries. And it was a load of greasy breakfast goodness. Do yourself a favor, and grab a seat at the counter, get a cup of Joe, and let Jack's take care of you. read more

I have been going there since we teens "cruised" the Avenue in the mid Sixties with our big cars and big appetites. After a night of clubbing up and down the Avenue when the clubs were so great and the times were even more fantastic, we'd end up at Jack's or the UN Diner (which became Quintessance) or the Miss Albany on Central Avenue. They were real old fashioned Fifties diners, with the waitress yelling to the cook, "Give me two Adam and Eves on a raft!" (this was a term for two eggs on toast). It was great. With their little white uniforms with their names sewn on their pocket, these waitresses were wonderful and are a great memory...real colorful characters. Like the times, they have gone, but the memories linger on. Greasy hamburgers, even greasier fries, Cokes before all the additives and Aspertame were put in it, home made apple pie...or a fantastic chocolate ice cream soda...all the food was great before the food police took over and the trans fats were kicked to the curb. Food tasted better then, and Jack's was one of the best diners around. It still is, and is the closest thing around now that gives you just a hint of its glory days and the glorious times in which it thrived. Jack's is as Albany as you can get, and I hope it's around a lot longer than the unfortunate chains that clutter our sorry landscape today. Long live Jack's! read more
