Found this place on yelp and really enjoyed their food. Nothing fancy, but the flavors reminded me of something I'd eat at grandmas house.

I love Jacks, but their service has gotten worse. I love coming here because it's so close to home, but lately they haven't been doing great. They have 12 workers 4 just walking down the aisles up and down, being no help not offering napkins or refills (which they do offer) it's pointless to have that many people. The same waitresses are rude, the only nice people are the busses greeting you. Please do better, and actually check on people!!! read more

I'm so happy to have this place so close to where I live. It will be a go to breakfast spot for us. In the mornings this place seems to be busy. I've seen folks waiting outside. Wasn't great but wasn't terrible either. Regular breakfast spot that didn't "wow" my partner and I. I visited around 9am on a Sunday and there was no wait for a party of 3. Plenty of parking as well. The gravy for our chicken fried steak and eggs were extremely salty. The muffin was dry and hard. The lady that greeted us and sat us must've woke up on the wrong side of bed. This place needs a lesson on customer service. Thank goodness they have buss people to do most of the work. Waitress was not friendly at all! I had a piece of plastic wrap in my food showed it to the buss girl she said she would let the waitress know. Food: 4.25. Came back for their Chicken Fried Biscuit-Wich. Such a great breakfast item. Homemade biscuit with sandwich sized chicken fried steak, crisp bacon, cheese, country gravy, and optional egg. Food came out timely and at right temperature. Next time I will ask for a little more gravy. If not enough gravy, sandwich can be dry because of the biscuit. A side of gravy is $3. Potatoes were good but oily. read more

There's an answer as to why there always seems to be a wait at Jack's in Old Orcutt. And the answer is that the food is really good, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Kate, Richard, and I made our way to Jack's in Old Orcutt for breakfast (late) just last Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed my BLT with no B as I'm a vegetarian (I wish they had more vegetarian options other than eggs dishes as I don't eat eggs), but with A as in avocado. Richard seemed to enjoy his American breakfast, while all three of us delighted in the order of French toast he put in at the last moment. Kate was impressed with her egg whites and fruit. This place is an old school diner that has been here for a very, very long time. It has changed owners, but it is still just as good as always. Wonderful place for comfort food. They serve biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, waffles, blah blah blah. I have never been here for lunch or dinner, but I am A breakfast regular. Have come here off and on for past year with my wife, it is one of our favorite spots when we want a quiet evening. The place has changed a bit since my first visit in 2003 when Jack's was known for their humongous-sized burgers, but the food continues to be delicious. I've had various breakfast menu options the last three times, but this time I wanted to try the chicken melt. It was very very good. Probably my favorite thing there so far. The tri-tip sandwich was dry, and tough to chew, and the sandwich roll itself was small. We asked for some BBQ sauce to help with the dryness of the sandwich but it tasted like ketchup. I wanted Tri Tip and all the other places in Orcutt were closed (a Tuesday of course). But Jack's said they had Tri Tip so we went there. I opted for the Tri Tip Dinner and the DW went with the Cod. I have cooked and eaten a lot of Tri Tip but was interested on how the Santa Maria style differed from they way I grill it. It came as "strips" of meat approx 3/4" to 1" in width and depth (?). I was expecting slices. I have no idea where on a Tri Tip the meat is only 1" deep but there it was. I asked for the meat to be medium rare but, after it was apparently grilled on the flat top, it was anything but. I did find a hint of pink in the middle of the biggest piece. The DW's Cod was promoted as being cooked over the same Santa Maria style grill as the Tri Tip. That may well be but it was also way over-cooked. It literally took a knife to cut the Cod. The salads were nice and fresh with a tasty Blue Cheese dressing. The french fries and mashed potatoes were also excellent. But the proteins left a lot to be desired. read more

Jack's has been a go to since I was a kid growing up here in Orcutt. I was afraid it would not be the same after being gone for over 20 years but it is just as good if not better than before.
