This was a cute little dinner. Staff was friendly, food was very yummy typical breakfast menu. Plates were pretty big. Everything was freshly made and was delicious.

My first time here since it's been rebought and of course we had to order more than we could eat to try a bite of everything and I'll have to sayyy. We have found our new little spot. It's a hole in the wall place , but a gem. The service was great, super nice and didn't judge when I ordered a whole lotta food for 2 ppl. (We didn't eat all the food. lol just a bite here and there if not more lol ) the food and service was great. I love the look of the interior. Takes you back to a place of nostalgia where gas was $1.10 and little Richie playing on a speaker. My only one lack of star is bc I couldn't relax on the booth. The person sitting behind me would lean back and the back of the chair we both sat I was just pressing against each other. It was playing tug o war towards each other with our backs. lol. It didn't change my thought of returning. We will be back here on weekends :) I will just hope someone tiny will sit behind me.

No frills old school diner. I ordered a club sandwich and it was exactly what it should be, no more, no less. Staff was courteous, though the prices a bit high for what you get.

CFS and it's some of the best!

My grandma and grandpa have been taking me to The Boys since I was a little girl. The place has not changed one bit and that's a good thing. We have taken our children there and I can't wait to take our grandchildren here. I love that you can get a breakfast that taste just as good as 40 years ago. Their biscuits are just as fluffy and their French toast taste just like my grandmothers. The chicken fried steak is some of the best around and I am a CFS snob. I was raised that chicken fried steak is hand breaded and fried in a cast-iron skillet. The gravy is spicy enough that it really doesn't need any hot sauce but it didn't stop me from putting it on. It really is a 10 star establishment. I hope it's still around 40 years from now.

    Old school . . .

Tasty chow, old school environs and friendly service -- enough said. We don't normally find ourselves in this part of town on a weekend morning, so that is my excuse for not getting here for, oh, 5 or 6 years. My bad. As plenty of other Yelpers have noted, this establishment is "old school". The building and "Restaurant" sign are easily 50 years old, and the inside décor matches, though the counter stools and booths are in great shape and the place is very clean. Service was very friendly from the moment we were greeted/seated, and our order was promptly noted and delivered within minutes. Waitress had a smile throughout, and we never once wanted for refills or extra napkins, as she was very attentive to all customers. Nice. Best part? When she set my toast down, she looked at it and said, "Oh, the toast looks a little well-done. Can I take it away and get you some more?" When was the last time that happened?? The chow? My wife thought her French toast (she asked for raisin bread for a slightly extra fee) was the best she had in awhile: slightly crunchy exterior, with a creamy, custard-like center. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Gravy was very good: not too thick, and not watered down, and not salty-- just right. Steak shared the "just right" moniker, as it was tender and juicy. I especially liked the hash browns, which I requested crispy. They were just that, and soft in the middle -- about perfect. Good chow is worth the visit; excellent service earns a 4th star . . . I'm a fan. Cheers! RS

This is my "go-to" place in Santa Maria for liver and onions (although once they did slip in canned veggies instead of fresh ones).

We had heard great things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We dined with our two kids, and everyone left happy. My wife and I shared the large ribeye for two, which was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The meal included four courses, and every part of it was excellent. For our appetizer, we ordered the artichoke, and it immediately brought back memories of my mom making artichokes when I was growing up. It was simple, delicious, and a great way to start the meal. Our kids both ordered the steak kids' meal, and we were impressed by the quality. It's not often you find a restaurant that serves a kids' steak meal that is genuinely delicious, but they both loved it and cleaned their plates. The salads were fresh, the sides were great, and dessert was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. What stood out most was the value. Considering the quality of the food and everything that was included, we felt the meal was very reasonably priced. The service was spot on throughout the evening--friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being intrusive. If you're visiting the Central Coast, whether you're staying in Santa Maria or exploring Paso Robles wine country, the Hitching Post is absolutely worth the trip. We're very glad we made the effort to visit and are already looking forward to coming back.

In fact, aside from the local post office, this restaurant is essentially the town's main attraction--and what a find it is. A quick tip: make reservations well in advance. This place fills up early. We arrived when the bar opened at 4:00 PM for our 4:30 reservation and were glad we planned ahead. The Hitching Post markets itself as serving some of the best barbecue in the world, but I'd describe it more as an exceptional steakhouse. Their meats are cooked over an open wood fire, creating a perfect balance of rich flavor and subtle smokiness that elevates every bite. I ordered the top sirloin, which was outstanding. The meal included a shrimp appetizer, fresh salad, garlic bread, roasted vegetables, and, of course, the perfectly cooked steak. To top it all off, dessert included ice cream and coffee. The restaurant offers an excellent wine selection, popular IPAs, and a full bar. The ambiance feels like stepping back into the 1950s, reflecting the restaurant's long history and charm. Service was impeccable--friendly, attentive, and professional. We even had a great view of the chefs preparing meals over the open fire. Before you leave, take a stroll through the outdoor garden area and check out the beautiful koi pond. It's a nice finishing touch to an already memorable evening. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the value. For a dining experience of this quality, the prices were very reasonable. The Hitching Post delivers outstanding food, excellent service, and a unique atmosphere that makes it well worth the trip. We'll definitely be back--this is the perfect spot for a special date night with my wife.
