I was looking for fresh Italian bread for the homemade stuffed cabbage I had waiting at my friends home, and boy did I find the spot! Recommended by my very good friend of course. He also mentioned pepperoni rolls, which I haven't had in a long time and Is pretty popular among folks in the Detroit area! The lady at the counter was fantastic with her Midwest welcoming approach! I order a loaf of fresh baked Italian bread along 3 pepperoni rolls. Counter lady mentioned to heat one up with cheese to eat on the spot! Which I did! Bread was soft and so tasty, reminds me of Cuban bread of south Florida. The warm pepperoni inside with melted mozzarella of the pepperoni roll hit the spot! I know why they are so popular now! All day!!! Tried a slice of the Italian bread too. Exactly how I figured it would taste but much better than any store bought! Jack's Italian Bakery is very recognizable off the street with the Italian flag colors on full display. The interior of the bakery is quite small - it only has enough space inside for a couple of customers. There are several small display cases with a small amount of various cookies and strudels, and one hot case with $1.75 slices of pizza. To be honest, the sweets and pizza don't seem to be very high volume, so I only went for their famous pepperoni roll. Double/Double Pepperoni Roll ($5) - Wow this thing is massive! Basically a huge 8 inch sub filled over the brim (literally - there were cheese shreds flying all over the bag) with pepperoni and shredded cheese. They offered to heat it up for me in the store, but I elected to take it home cold and heat up later. This thing barely fit in my toaster oven. Fluffy bread with salty and slightly spicy pepperoni and melty mozzerella. I ate a little over half and was pretty full. Delicious and cheap - what else could you ask from a pepperoni roll? You definitely can't go wrong with Jack's for the pepperoni rolls. read more

We ordered over 100 donuts for a recruiting event at work for over 100 newly graduated students to join our department for 6 month rotations. We had a mix of donuts came in these wide and bulky boxes. I had to enlist two colleagues to carry the boxes as they were rather awkward to carry any distance at all. Cinnamon donuts and filled donuts. It's good we had any snacks at all for these young recruits. The donuts are gone in less than an hour. I barely got a photo after they were put out. The cinnamon and filled were too bad and went the fastest. The plain and cinnamon are what I tend to gravitate towards to know if they are any good at all. read more

Was walking by Jack's at 07:00 in the morning (Still dark out) and the smell was so inviting, I had to stop in; grabbed a Cinnamon Sugar/Apple Eclair and some raspberry pastries. They were all amazingly great! Other than the staff, I was the only person there; the staff (Lady) was super friendly and based on her attitude and the pastries I tried, I will be returning, regardless of how much out of the way for me it may be. read more

Stopped in today to buy a dozen or so cookies, of which there were at least 3 dozen in the case, for an event. Was instantly denied service because I didn't order ahead. Was told something about John (?) being livid if I was sold their product without ordering ahead. Help me understand this.... Please. I have money. I want to give you my money for your product - it shouldn't matter if I've ordered ahead or not when there's plenty of product in the case. "Shop small businesses!" is the cry these days. I tried. It's called Jack's Italian Bakery, now operation run by Jack's son doing a great job. Always a group of Friendly helpful ladies and super great prices. The regular pepperoni roll is loaded with cheese and pep and if you want extra you can for an upcharge. Pizza is good as well and they'll sell you all the ingredients to make pizza at home. I have had pepperoni rolls and pizza from several Italian bakeries and the food has never been spicy. Someone said to try Jack's. First and last time. I don't like spicy pizza. I can't understand why someone would make their pizza spicy. I'm not sure if it was the pepperoni or the sauce, but either way, I won't be back. Delicious and cheap little bakery. Their pizza rolls here are to die for. The bread is light and fluffy, and feels like biting into a cloud at first. Then you hit the pocket of melted cheese and greasy pepperoni. Its one of those guilty pleasure train accidents that you want to avoid, but come at you like a delicious unavoidable mess. I also got a deep fried, sugar coated roll packed with cannoli filling that sent me to another level of diabeetus heaven. This is a little Italian spot on Allen road, If you drive too fast, you'll miss it - it's that small..... but they have wonderful apricot kifli, walnut too, and all the fattening little things, that I really should avoid...but sometimes the car just steers itself there! Thanks to all of Brian S.'s reviews, I made a quick edit to my GTFO Detroit Farewell Food Bucketlist, and stopped by Jack's while down in that godforsaken neighborhood on another errand. It was easy to find, there's a good parking lot, and the woman behind the counter's nice. A buck or so for a cherry turnover, which kept my hunger at bay until dinner. If you live in this neighborhood, you should be walking/driving here for your baked goods. Smells, looks, and tastes great. They accept credit cards (I think it's a $5 minimum). read more

The prices of everything has went up but no money put into the building or the employees.. it's a shame you can get crappie Pizza anywhere and the undercooked pizza rolls were a joke! I was disappointed when I saw how small this place was. It was almost too small to the point of asking, "What's the point?" They did not have much selection. Apple struddel was what I had. It was good but I was hoping for cherry, which they did not have. The place came off as dark and old which is sort of unappealing when they are serving food. I would not return. read more
