I came in this week needing someone to take a look at my car as I bought it only a week ago and the check engine light had immediately come on. The mechanic (whose name I unfortunately don't remember, but he's the owner I believe) took my car in for a few hours and immediately found the issue. He found 3 codes and explained them all to me simply, and also informed me that the seller I had bought the car from fudged the smog without me even telling him the circumstances of the sale. The seller wouldn't let me take the car off the lot to get it coded because they claimed they didn't want the car to be driven uninsured, and got the car smogged the day of purchase. I was suspicious of their "kindness" in smogging it, but didn't want to think the worst. The mechanic explained that the light immediately came on after driving for a couple of days because they had only reset and flooded the transmission to get the light to turn off - didn't actually pass smog. He gave me his personal opinion and my most affordable choices and reassured me that this happens, the car is in clean condition aside from that, and recommended going to a transmission shop as they are far more affordable than dealers / others. I went to the transmission shop (sunset transmission) and they also gave me their amazing advice and the situation has been taken care of! Thank you again SO much Jacks lube, I was so intimidated and confused at first and you made my week so much less stressful and answered every question (even the stupid ones!) with the upmost respect and kindness :,) Best, a very grateful 19 year old with her first car. The best! So honest and won't tell you your car needs something it doesn't. Been seeing Vic for about 20 years... about time I left a review : ) Because of him, we still have our 2004 and 2013 cars running great (original owners). Once in a while I'll take one of the family cars to the dealer for an oil change since they're a mile from my house and Jack's is 10 miles away. Excellent and Honest Auto Mechanic. Until I started leasing mini's, Vik was my mechanic. You couldn't find a better or more enthusiastic mechanic. Even when the advice is not in his best interest, he will give his expert opinion. I was spending almost $500. a month to keep my old VW Cabrio on the road. Vik told me I was wasting my money and to give it up. When I stop leasing cars, I hope Vik will be my mechanic. No-nonsense vehicle repair. Vic will break down any problems or questions you may have and make sure you know what's going on with your car without making things complicated. Not the cheapest mechanic I've been too, but by far not the most expensive, and AAA+ service and quality. If you want cheaper repairs, you'll get what you pay for. I'm not sure why this shop is named "Jack's Lube Service", because it is owned and run by Vick, and he does work on every make and model of car including luxury cars. In short, I have never met a more competent and ethical mechanic than Vick, and I have been taking my cars to him for years. I own both a Nissan Maxima and a Porsche 911, and Vick has done great work at super fair prices every time on both cars. He has even had me get below the car to see what he is working on and explained everything that is going on and what he is fixing and why. If you are interested in anything to do with cars, Vick will tell you everything in as much detail as you want. He has a wall full of master mechanic certificates and is an encyclopedia on car repairs on about any car you could think of. I made the mistake once of taking my Nissan to a mechanic close to my work in Encino to have the alternator replaced. I took my car back to Vick when the alternator failed again a year later. Vick called me down to his shop that day to show me that the alternator had never been replaced the first time, even though I paid for this. It was obvious from the condition of the brushes in the alternator that it was not replaced the year before. The mechanic at the first shop simply blew the dust out of my alternator and managed to get it working again, but charged me a fortune to "replace it." Vick felt bad about me being ripped off and sent my alternator to be rebuilt, at no markup of his own, to a place that charged a fraction to do the work. The cost was a fraction of the bill from the year before, and my Nissan has been running great since. I made the mistake of letting a friend drive my Porsche, and this guy managed to burn out the clutch by drag race starting the car from a red light. Vick charged me half of what it would cost at a Porsche dealership to replace the clutch. The clutch has worked perfectly for the two years since. I have recommended several friends to Vick, and all have said that they will not take their car to any other mechanic again. A co-worker at my office got a $2,400 quote at the dealership for "needed work" when she took her PT Cruiser in for a 60,000 mile dealer checkup. I told her to told her to take her car to Vick, and she did. Vick explained that half the work on the estimate (including replacing the timing belt) did not, in fact, need to be done anytime soon and showed her other work that the dealership missed that did need to be done. Vick charged $800 in total, and this co-worker's car has run without any problems for two years since. The lock to the trunk of my Maxima was frozen so badly that I managed to snap a key trying to open it. I expected a nice bill for a replacement lock from the dealership and took it to Vick. Vick was out, but his father, who had his own shop in Israel years ago, sprayed some gasoline in the lock and had me try to open it again. Sure enough, the unfroze and started working again just like new. Vick's father said, "Have a nice day" and said there was no charge for this as I gladly drove away. I could go on, but you get the idea. read more

SO happy I came across this shop! My boyfriend took his car in to get a 90-point inspection a few months ago and left feeling confident and educated about his future car purchase because they were so informative and took the time to explain in lamons terms what they were doing with the car. I brought my Volvo in because it was acting up really bad, to the point where it would stop in the middle of me driving on the road. sucked! I called Friday afternoon, took my car in that same evening and picked it up Saturday morning completed and running like new. Went to this place to get my car looked at and Vic came back with an estimate that would almost be $700 and were not going to put the fee of my diagnostic towards that estimate of what was wrong with my car. Took my car to the dealer instead and not only did they put the fee of my diagnostic toward my total, but the DEALER (who are usually the one's I dont trust) only charged me $150 for the cleaning of the part, and ever since then my car has been driving amazing. I dont trust this mechanic and don't think they have a good policy or are trustworthy. When I asked too many questions about their work or the work they were about to perform they became rude and it was apparent that they didnt want to be questioned about the work to be done. 10 years ago, I was driving a Volkswagen Cabrio that was only 3 years old and falling apart. I stumbled onto Jack's Lube at the recommendation of an AAMCO mechanic. After 3 very reasonable repairs to the Cabrio, I was done with the car (as much as I liked Vic!). I asked Vic what car I should get, and he said "Get a Toyota Corolla and you will never see me again." Well my Corolla just turned 9 and it finally needs some work. I made the mistake of taking it to the dealer who just tried to sell me on a very expensive fix. Called Vic, (who I am certain doesn't remember me) he gave me a quote over the phone (way cheaper and spoke to me like a human, not an idiot) and I am looking forward to booking my service with him. I recently was in the market for buying a used car for one of my kids and took the cars to Jack's for a mecahnical inpsepction and was pleasantly surprised at the thoroughness of their inspection. They not only checked the engine and ran all the trouble codes, but inspected the car from inside, outside and underneath. They revealed many minor issues that the seller was able to repair and ultimately the car has performed perfectly since I bouhgt it. They drove the car as well and were able to tell me information that Carfax just couldnt. As a result we bought the car and have been very pleased with its performance. Best repair experience I've ever had! Broke down on the freeway, this repair shop was the closest place, I was worried, but it ended up to be the best place. The mechanic was fantastic, honest and didn't charge an arm and a leg. He found the parts needed and had them replaced and the car back on the road in about two hours. I've had this type of repair done before on another vehicle (alternator) and around my area, it's typically over $1200 and takes them a couple of days or longer. I was shocked at how low the price was here, and for him to do it all in just under two hours. It was amazing. I would definitely recommend this shop. read more

Three years ago, when I moved to LA, I took my car to Jack's for a tune-up on the recommendation of an old friend, and I've been going back ever since. Honest, forthright, no nonsense. The only drawback is that Jack's doesn't deal with tires, I think because there is no lift. Instead, there is a workspace sunk beneath the garage floor.
