As I noticed, this is one person, but he is super sweet and attentive. He made sure to let me know how fast it would be and within what time frame I should bring my car in. sometimes a hero wears a blue mechanic's shirt! I ran over a screw and the tire was losing air fast. Another mechanic: "I don't do tires." Dealership: "We can replace it for $450 and keep tour car here until tomorrow." National tire shop: "It will cost $400 to replace, and we don't have your tire in stock. We can order it? Or try calling [anther national chain], they are the only ones that still plug a hole." I pull into A-1, and "You have a screw in the tire. Turn the wheel to the right and pull forward 3 inches." (5 minutes later) "Here's the screw. It's patched. That will be $28.00." I got to work by 9 am. read more

Tony is an amazing mechanic with a depth of car knowledge that was proven when we stopped in with a failure to start on a car that was bequeathed to us without a backstory or history- so we didn't know what the issue could possibly be ourselves. He explained thoroughly the part that had failed and as soon as it delivered to his shop it was installed and we were on the road again. Great service!!! Took my girlfriends car to get serviced here at this shop and was greeted by Tony and his son Mark who welcomed me and offered a cold water right away in this summer heat!. Came in expecting to pay for new suspension thinking that was the issue which would of been ($500-$600). But luckily Mark was able to spot the issue right away and tell me the great news which was just this small bent rod that only costed me a $250 with labor included! I needed to get my Mini Cooper's first smog check. Guess that officially makes my car old. I needed to use a Star smog station. So ok. Checked around and found A1 nearby. Good reviews here so I called and made my appointment for the next day. Tony was very patient when his smog system was having issues connecting to its database. I wasn't in a hurry so all good. Although it used be be a part of the attached gas station (Silver Lake Union 76), Tony Hachem, the proprietor of this automotive service business has branched on his own. I was recommended to him by a former boss who lived in nearby atwater village. Tony is wonderful, he will tell you like it is = the truth. I remember the first time coming there with my old '97 accord after having visited two other places for estimates and to see what was wrong with my car. Well, I told Tony what the other mechanics were telling me including the small bit about my alignment being off and he's says, "Let's take it for a ride." On this test drive, he precedes driving a straightaway and taking both hands off the steering wheel to let me know that the alignment was NOT a problem. I did have problems with my car though. I sold it to CARMAX and put it towards my next car which I've continued taking to him these past two years. Recently, I had an oil change done at a place closer to my house (Goodyear at 2901 Magnolia in Burbank). The oil change was fine, but the guy recommended for me to get about $400 worth of maintenance work. Shortly after that, I took my car when the brake lights went on to Tony and told him what the Goodyear people suggested to have done before. So he took a look at my car, topped off the brake fluid which triggered the brake light indicator and told me I didn't need any of the items "recommended" by the Goodyear people and sent me on my way without asking for a dime. Because good service brings back good business. The only negative here is that they don't have a waiting area beyond a white plastic lawn chair overlooking the gas station. I'll usually drop my car off and walk over the the starbucks across the street or down a few blocks further to gingergrass for some lunch while I'm waiting. This place it great, I can feel like a girl taking my car to the mechanic by myself and not get scammed. read more
