Craig is.. man, the bee's knees. I was recommended to him by a friend, when I wanted a 2nd quote on a pricey EGR valve replacement for my 2018 Chevy Volt. Craig was honest enough and said he's never serviced a Volt and said he didn't want to promise something he couldn't deliver. He encouraged me to call another shop he recommended, and said "you want to ask them how many times they've seen this on a Volt" and make sure it's something they're used to, so you don't have to pay money for their inexperience! I mean what kind of amazing guy is he? Very rare. I did call the other shop, Long Auto, and they were very polite (eventually opted to stay with my auto guy near me). But all around, if I had a non-EV car, would definitely go to ISE. read more

What a refreshing experience - and I didn't even bring my car in. A critter ate some of the wiring (soy-based insulation ) in my Honda's engine bay, so I walked over to ISE Automotive and showed Craig the photos. He called a dealer (he likes Honda of Pasadena) to see what the costs could be, and the dealer said the entire wiring harness would probably need to be replaced. Craig basically said that he could repair the harness, but he couldn't guarantee that the repairs would work. Rare that a business turns away work, but his reasoning (we went over a laundry list of pros and cons) was totally sound. I've gotten my car serviced here a couple of times and felt like I trusted the place even though they've always gone over the quoted price. I took my car in last week and NEVER AGAIN! I got a verbal quote of "around $600" before they did service. When I arrived to pick up the car Craig told me that he was too busy to fill out paperwork or charge me and that he'd send me the bill. Okay all the great reviews about Craig and his shop are all true! Nicest guy ever and super helpful. I brought my car to get the oil change, it was at the 100,000 miles so I expected some work needing to be done. When I dropped the car off, he said he'd check everything but a lot of times all you need is an oil change. I did tell him about a weird jerking when I drove so he drove it around and ran some tests. He had me come back the following Monday to test it again and make sure everything was good. He recommended that I get my tires aligned and put me in touch with a transmission guy near by, but it ended up being a throttle issue, so I'm bringing my car back. But its refreshing to know that he actually cares about the well being of your car and will do his due diligence to figure out the issue. He didn't even worry about charging me right away after I picked up my car. Seriously, if everyone did business like Craig, this world would be a nicer place! read more

I have always been more than satisfied with their excellent service and fair prices. I went in for an oil and filter change last week and was surprised to see that Craig and Gary now have some of the blue, ear-loop, anti-Covid 19 procedure masks for sale for incredible pricing. $15 for a box of 50 masks! I was so surprised that a small auto repair shop could sell Personal Protective Equipment and such low prices that I had to ask, "How can you sell these at such low prices?" Craig explained that one of their satisfied customers is a big, well established importer of Personal Protection Equipment and this importer gave them container-volume-pricing on masks which he is passing along to his customers. Old school trustworthy private shop. They will tell you honestly if they can do work on your car or if you need to go to another shop/dealer. Prices are reasonable for non-dealer market. The owners also work on the cars themselves and they don't have an answering machine (did I say old school?) so sometimes let the phone ring 10x before giving up and calling later. I've been coming to Craig at ISE for about 15 years. He is without a doubt an honest and skilled mechanic. I trust his judgement about my cars completely. He also remembers things from visit to visit about my wiper blades and minor things like that. My first experience with him was an old Corolla that stopped working. I didn't know him but I dropped off my car. He told after having it for the day that the car was almost cause, and that anything he did would be temporary but he could do something so I can get it to a dealer to trade it in for a new car. He got it going , and didn't charge me at all cause "buying a new car is expensive". That was my first time. Ever since then, I have trusted him. Price is always always under what I expect. Recently I've heard that someone was running an Internet scam using his business name on yelp. Please know this, Craig is old school. You have to call or go in to see him. He never would use an app, email, or internet services to do his business. If you see something about mobile services or asking you for money in advance as a deposit. I live in terror of the day that Craig finally closes up shop. I have been going to ISE since I moved to LA in the mid-90s. I trust him completely, and taking my cars to him over the years for scheduled maintenance has kept them running beautifully. I've had many random car troubles/accidents over the years (my car is nicknamed "The Oops"), but my experience with Craig can be summed up by an issue with my car where it was making strange noises. I brought it in and Craig said "I'm pretty sure it's this part. I'll get a new one and install it." He got the part, I brought the car in and he installed it and said "Actually, I don't think that's it." He took the car apart piece by piece and told me honestly he couldn't figure out what the issue was. He put everything back together, and the noise was gone. He didn't charge me for any of the sleuthing, or for the part he ended up not using. He is friendly and willing to walk you through any issues, he lets you know about any potential problem spots/additional costs before they arise, and he always gets my car back to me when he says he will. For his sake I wish him a happy retirement whenever he decides it's time, but I'm not kidding when I say it will be a really sad day for me when he does. read more
