This was and is the go-to-store for vinyl. Nowadays vinyl is making a comeback due to its superior sound. They still sell CDs and most are priced moderately. I noticed the older vinyl rock classics are very highly priced. There is a potpourri of all types of music at this place. You can even buy instruments here, especially guitars. Jack's has been around for years and will probably endure. Parking is always hard downtown, watch those meters, albeit Sundays there is no fee to park. Staff is very helpful. Willie Nile gave a free performance here and it was pretty well packed with walk-ins.

As much as I like my iPod and iTunes I really miss going into stores like Jack's Music. I still go into the store but I seldom buy anything which is a real shame since Jack's is cool CD/Music store. I usually go in to hear what they are playing on the store's sound system because it is always something that I have not heard before. The store is well stocked and carries deep catalogs. They have a help desk (like a book store) that will special order hard to find things. Jack's is also a good source of Sheet Music and they also sell a wide range of musical instruments. No trip to Red Bank, New Jersey can be complete without a stop at Jack's Music Shoppe.

I usually hate going into music stores. I feel like it's the same store, over and over again. Not this place! My boyfriend and his friend wanted to stop in, so I joined. I was surprised to see such a diverse selection of music. CDs and vinyl! I don't have a record player, but I will buy vinyl from time to time. I love the cover art and there's just something nostalgic about collecting albums. I was impressed when I saw multiple Iron Maiden CDs... As well as all of the Country albums they had. (real country, nothing you hear on the radio, unless you're in West Virginia) What can I say, I have a wide range of interest when it comes to music! They also have a bunch of cult horror DVDS! As well as other genres. Pretty cool place. You're bound to find something to buy!

Vinyl as far as the eye can see!! Get out your turn table

The manager is rude (not Tim) so I refuse to shop here which is really sad because we should be supporting local record stores.

Walking in makes me feel like I'm stepping back into the 90s, when music required effort and curiosity and a willingness to be wrong about what you thought you liked. They have everything. Records, tapes, CDs, and yes, even DVDs and VHS tapes, like artifacts from a civilization that understood patience. The selection is not just large, it is deep in the way a good conversation is deep. Jazz standards sit comfortably alongside obscure classical recordings. Somewhere nearby is a Japanese scream band you have never heard of but suddenly feel compelled to investigate. What makes the place work is the staff. These aren't people who ended up here by accident. They're here because they love music in a way that can't be faked. Ask for something familiar and they will find it. Ask for something strange and they will find it too, and then suggest three more things you didn't know you needed. It reminds me of the record stores I grew up in, back when discovering music felt like a small personal victory instead of an algorithm handing you a suggestion like a fortune cookie with better branding. Streaming may have made everything available, but it also made everything feel the same. This place resists that. It insists that music is still worth searching for, still worth holding in your hands, still worth talking about with another human being. Go here. Spend more time than you intended. Trade in something you hope others will discover as you once did. Leave with something unexpected. That's the whole point. Five stars, and I don't give them lightly, because enthusiasm is a finite resource and should be spent where it matters.

After starting to drink it... I realized that this is the one of the worst cups of coffee I had ever attempted to consume. The barista had over over over frothed the milk and it literally tasted like butter. It was gross and not drinkable. I waited in line again and I said "this coffee isn't very good. May I please have a black iced coffee instead?" (This is the simplest easiest drink I could think of. I didn't want to trouble her.). She replies... "what's wrong with it?" Me... "it tastes like a stick of butter" Her..."it's supposed to taste that way. It's frothed milk." Me... "No it's not. I have made and drank many cappuccinos and they are not supposed to taste like a stick of butter. I literally can not drink this." Her... "whatever sir... they are supposed to taste like that...but if you want something else, I'll have to give to you a refund." Me... "the iced coffee and the cappuccino are the same price... does that matter?" Her..."sir. Don't be rude. I'm trying to help you." Then she mumbles under her breath... "I'm not dealing with this shit today." Me... "ma'am why are you being so rude? I can obviously hear you mumbling." Her...again..."I'm trying to help you sir. Go wait over there" Then... she mumbles under her breath more... Makes me an iced coffee with so much ice she can't even put the lid on... and basically throws it at me. I am a regular customer at Starbucks in Long Branch. I worked in food service for 2 decades and have owned restaurants. I am the most polite coffee customer imaginable and this woman was just an awful person to deal with in every way. The coffee was really bad too. I hope someone in charge there sees this and has a word with her.

Luckily for me, I live in the neighborhood west of here. I've always ignored this spot for years due to the insanely outdated and weathered posters (really horrible ones, too). However, I manned up and walked in about a year and a half ago and I must say: this place is great. It turns out that Zig Zag is quite historic. Back in the early 80s, heavy metal had its glory days here in Brooklyn. L'Amour's was the place to be and Zig Zag was the place to get records... and meet your favorite bands. It's hard to believe that bands like Metallica, Motorhead, and Venom all stepped through that door at one point. Stan, the guy who works there, has basically seen it all and has not given up his 80s days just yet. As for the actual selection of goods: it's just like any other used record store. You win some, and you lose some. Because this place has diminished into obscurity over the last 20 years, all of the super rare stuff is left untouched and hidden underneath everything else. The prices are a bit high ($12 average for a used record?) though the price is worth it for some records. How Stan manages to keep this place in business after all these years blows my mind. I know he does a lot of EBay-ing, but damn! He must kick ass at it. All in all, this place is filled with unexplored treasures and is definitely worth your time especially if you are a collector of classic rock, classic heavy metal, and everything else related to that from the 60s-80s. Oh, there are CDs too but who cares about that plastic crap?

Many times it would be cheaper at Zig Zag than some of the stores in the Village. Well, good music is officially dead. In the age of auto-tuned crap, the bell tolls for another fallen indie store.
