This is an awesome, fully stocked functioning record store full of new and used vinyl, CD, posters, shirts etc.... But it may be more well known for being part of the building Banky & Holden lived in, in the movie chasing Amy. That being said, I've visited a few times and and always found some great music. The staff is knowledgable about all genres of music and the older staff have stories to share about Kevin Smith filming in the shop. This was and is the go-to-store for vinyl. Nowadays vinyl is making a comeback due to its superior sound. They still sell CDs and most are priced moderately. I noticed the older vinyl rock classics are very highly priced. There is a potpourri of all types of music at this place. You can even buy instruments here, especially guitars. Jack's has been around for years and will probably endure. Parking is always hard downtown, watch those meters, albeit Sundays there is no fee to park. Staff is very helpful. Willie Nile gave a free performance here and it was pretty well packed with walk-ins. read more

Since we're apparently all going to be sequestered in New Jersey until there's virtually no chance of catching anything more exotic than the common cold, I'm itching to get back out in the world and pay another visit to Jack's. At this point my physical music collection (I still prefer buying over leasing) is to the point where I'm much more interested in replacing early generation CDs with their updated, remastered cousins. Jack's is an excellent resource as they still stock a broad selection of physical music and by default, make searching for even the scarcest titles a breeze. Sure, it's easier to order online but Amazon and their marketplace are becoming sloppy at properly identifying versions so, the back-end hassle of returning stock will soon be lapping the upfront convenience of fingertip ordering. Wow !!! I support independent retail stores, but .... I've come to this store many times before and I have to praise the customer service to all the staff on the main floor and upstairs. Unfortunately, one bad apple spoils the lot. The guy downstairs is always rude, seems like he does not want to be bothered. And when asking for help he makes you feel like you should just leave... I've been going to this shop for twenty years. Has always been a great resource for CD's, vinyl, sheet music, musical instruments, etc. Shop is clean and staff is knowledgeable. Prices are fair. I believe in supporting local music shops and this store is a local music shop in every sense of the word. I stop by here for Record Store Day often, as well. Been here twice before but won't come again. You are losing customers due to the extremely rude guy downstairs in the guitar room. Apparently you all know who he is. We were told he was the brother of the owner and everyone complains about him. He looks at us with contempt-like he couldn't be bothered. When he brought out some cases we wanted to check out-instead of laying them out on the counter-he threw them all on the ground and said "this is what I have." I've never met someone who had so much contempt for potential customers. Can't believe this guy is allowed to be near people. This is definitely the last time we are coming here. As much as I like my iPod and iTunes I really miss going into stores like Jack's Music. I still go into the store but I seldom buy anything which is a real shame since Jack's is cool CD/Music store. I usually go in to hear what they are playing on the store's sound system because it is always something that I have not heard before. The store is well stocked and carries deep catalogs. They have a help desk (like a book store) that will special order hard to find things. Jack's is also a good source of Sheet Music and they also sell a wide range of musical instruments. I usually hate going into music stores. I feel like it's the same store, over and over again. Not this place! My boyfriend and his friend wanted to stop in, so I joined. I was surprised to see such a diverse selection of music. CDs and vinyl! I don't have a record player, but I will buy vinyl from time to time. I love the cover art and there's just something nostalgic about collecting albums. I was impressed when I saw multiple Iron Maiden CDs... As well as all of the Country albums they had. (real country, nothing you hear on the radio, unless you're in West Virginia) What can I say, I have a wide range of interest when it comes to music! They also have a bunch of cult horror DVDS! As well as other genres. Pretty cool place. You're bound to find something to buy! read more

I bought a used Beatles' vinyl from them about 2 weeks ago when I was on vacation in New Jersey. I brought it home to Colorado, only to find that when I put it on that it was scratched and slow. I'm very disappointed in the quality of used records there and disappointed that I cannot get my money back. I would not recommend buying used records from them. read more

It's a shame that there are no more record stores. I should say, there aren't as many record stores as there were back in the day. Nowadays, you're stuck going to Best Buy or Target or Walmart to buy CD's and DVD's. Thank god for places like Jack's Music Shoppe. I was able to snatch up 10 used CD's for less than $50. One of those was a rare Billy Bragg CD, which made me squeal with delight. Because they've been around for a while, the store is very well stocked and has a really good amount of older catalog titles. The employees are all really friendly and very knowledgeable. Yes, sort of like the dudes at Championship Vinyl. And best of all, it's located right next to Holden McNeil and Banky Edwards's office in Red Bank. You know Holden and Banky, don't you? Sure, Jack is a bit gruff he but he makes up for it by hiring the most amazing people to work in his store. If you aren't sure what is good, head to the back by the sheet music loft, where there is a selection of staff picks that is always spot on. Used vinyl, and opportunities to sell your own collections are also nothing to dismiss. Jack's always has a great selection of music. The pro shop at the back has every kind of guitar string you could hope to find, and the loft upstairs has lots of sheet music and arrangements to choose from. They also have blank composition notebooks with staff bars for budding composers. Check the front counter for sampler CD giveaways, news about concert tickets, and cute gift items as well as box sets. read more

Record stores are a dying breed and Red Bank is lucky to have one. It's one of the few stores in that town that have some sort of real, genuine appeal, and make the schlep into it so very worth it. There are TWO things that solidify my fandom of the store, and it goes as follows: the excellent used/donated section - they have a huge section right when you walk in bursting with donated, discounted CDs. God knows its hard to actually find something worth buying but thank goodness its there! Who doesn't love shifting through old CDs for treasure? The same goes for their records in the back - I found some awesome, awesome records shifting through their sections. I recommend the newly donated for the best. My other, second, love for this store is their selection of otherwise hard to find music. I don't know many CD/Record stores that carry everything Will Oldham, let alone a single release by the man, so I was happy when I found it. The reason for the lack of 5 stars is merely their small new record section, their location and their hours. Otherwise, thank you Jack's for continuing to give life to records! read more

They told me on the phone that they buy whole DVD collections. When I got there, they cherry picked what was the very best stuff. They then said they don't buy collections and offered me a dollar each for my DVDs including unopened and box sets. I felt that it was a bait and switch. They lost me as a steady customer as well. read more

First off all I gotta say this place is great if you're walking around in downtown Red Bank. They have a great selection of CDs. The problem is that you can get the same CD other places for at least, and I mean at least 5 dollars cheaper. The good news is that it's a nice atmosphere, but the staff is kinda stuck up. They made me and a friend leave 15 minutes early because we were browsing and they were going to close in 15 minutes. The good news is that the used CDs are 5 bucks and there are alot of them. That's about it. I've bought CDs, not a special edition or a dual disc, but a regular CD for 16 dollars there, and I've found it at other retailers for 10. It seems they add about 5 dollars on every CD. This place is fun to walk through, and the staff can be helpful. Just expect to spend about 5 extra dollars per CD. read more

Don't go into the guitar section in the back. They are the snobbiest a$$ holes on the planet. Everything outside those double doors though has always been great! Been going here for years. The people at the front register are always super nice and helpful, and while the blu-rays are a bit high I don't mind because I really go there for a lot of cool used records and cds which are never in short supply. But yeah like I said, go, but just don't go past those double doors. Those guys always come across like the elitists of the guitar universe. Jack's has a good selection of CDs and DVDs. There's also a small musical instrument shop within-a-shop in the back with sheet music on the upper level. However, the poor customer service drops the rating down to 2 stars - and frankly, that's being generous. The owner is a prissy, rude man who has no customer service skills whatsoever. If you've ever felt the urge to buy a used surfboard while shopping for CDs, this is the place. Jack's is a great record store on Broad Street in downtown Red Bank, Jack's is an institution. They carry all sorts of music, with sections for punk, metal, rap, oldies, vocals, blues, jazz, kids, etc., etc., as well as a huge inventory of classic and new rock. You pay only a little more than you might at some mall-based store (though cheaper deals can be found on the 'net no doubt). There's usually pretty decent music playing, too. If you've got a little time to kill, grab a cup of coffee from No Joe's or Zebu Forno and spend some time perusing the used CDs. I've found some great albums in the used bin. It's not just junk that no one wants for good reasons. I've noted that recently Jack's has really expanded its DVD offerings. I'm not a big movie buyer, but I get a kick out of checking out some of the cult classics and other crazy stuff they stock. You can also buy sheet music, instruments and, as mentioned, used surfboards here. Jack's has been around longer than most businesses in downtown Red Bank and likely will stick around for a long time to come. read more

Not many places like this left where you can buy a cd or better yet.......VINYL!!! They have new, used, t shirts, sheet music, dvd's, etc Decent selection, although I'd like to see a bigger metal section (hint hint). Like I said, these places are becoming rare. Support your local record shop. Even if it is a cd and not vinyl, there is nothing like being able to physically hold the music in your hand. Read the insert while listening to it. Stare at the artwork. Follow with the lyrics. You can't do that with a download!!!! read more

This is one of my favorite places back home. Honestly, Jack's helped me expand my musical tastes so much in middle/high school. There really aren't any record stores anywhere in Monmouth County as good as Jack's. They also have the obligatory shrine to Monmouth County's own Bruce Springsteen in the window, which I find hilarious. It's also right across the street from Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. I am a fan of Jack's. Whenever I am in town, I will stop by to check out their latest arrived used vinyls. One day while looking through some vinyls, a customer showed me a picture of the Boss on his phone and said that he was in the store last week! Oh I would have killed to run into Bruce Juice and invite him to chill with me at the Broadway Diner! I never go in looking for anything in particular, but more times than not I walk out with an unexpected purchase. I give 4/5 stars because the staff doesn't seem exactly thrilled to work here. They have something for everyone- an amazing selection of new releases to rare finds in every genre. The staff is great. I really do like this store for their record selection (everything else is nice, but it doesn't really interest me. My fault not theirs.) What kills me though is how it is near impossible to get their stickers off of the back of the records, unless you want to damage the album cover. Much better stickers can be found at the Princeton Record Exchange, which peel off easily and don't leave any residue or damage the record. My advice to whoever works at Jack's: find out what the record exchange stickers are made of and make the switch. Also, If a record doesn't sell after a few months, just get rid of it. I just came in yesterday for the first time in 2 months and the selection was really the exact same in the same spots. Just try to get some more variety going, thanks. read more
