I stopped at Jack's this morning for breakfast. The staff was pleasant. The owner stopped by our table and chatted with my wife and I for quite awhile. He told me they just finished renovating. Our first and only time at Jacks Steak house on a mini vacation stopped in for lunch it took 45 minutes to get some of our food and 2 out of 4 meals were wrong the 4th one we never received!!!! The turkey club had 2 small pieces of bacon and small amount of turkey!!!!! Needless to say we are now going to go to another restaurant and eat our meal!!! Side note is they have the best northern ham and bean soup with cornbread!!! read more

I wish there was a way to rate this place as horrible. They totally ignored my husband and I as I sat there waiting to at least be acknowledged. If we could have at least been given water, it would have been nice. Several times waitresses just walked by us without giving us a look. They served some men that walked in and sat at the bar (after we were already seated). I think if you are a local, you might have better luck. Of course after 20 minutes we just left. Stopped here with a large group. Service was well just odd. She took individual orders but instead of getting everyone's order at once half of us had food before others even ordered. Definitely not worth their prices. We also had a bill for $53 and only had about $38 worth of food and drinks for myself and my kids. Went there with the wife because it was the only steak house without a wait. I now know why, had a wait on our steaks which is fine with me. They came out raw in the center and burnt with all the seasonings burnt on them from not cleaning the grill. Then the sides were cold. Was not the cleanest place at all. price on the menu was 13 dollars off what it was. So I ended up paying 95 dollars for two burnt on the sides and raw in the center medium rare steaks and cold sides. Would not recommend for anyone. read more

Had to get our drinks refilled by the busers cause we hardly saw our waitress. Waited an hour for fried chicken and a country fried steak, finally went to pay for our cokes and app and leave because we were done waiting around and a snotty lady making a margarita behind the bar says "well it's not fast food". I had to write a review, mostly to properly set expectations. Jack's is a diner that calls themselves a steakhouse. They have an extensive menu and do a great job, but they are a diner. The sirloin is off-the-plate HUGE, thinly cut, but cooked to medium rare which considering the thinness is amazing. My friend ordered one last night, he said it was juicy and flavorful. They have everything from Fried Chicken or shrimp to grilled chicken breasts and steaks. The side dishes are plentiful (green beans, baked white and sweet potatoes, fried selections, iceberg salads, etc). It's not Morton's or Hyde Park - it's basic diner food folks, and if you keep that in mind I am definitely a fan. They have a full bar, three domestic draft beers and a selection of mostly domestic bottled beer and wine. The restrooms are spotless, which says a lot about a place. Enjoy! My wife and I ate here tonight, and in my 45 years on the planet, it was the worst meal I've ever gotten at a "restaurant". I had a sirloin sandwich that was simultaneously bland and disgusting. It was undercooked and didn't look like any sirloin I'd ever seen. The french fries were cold. Service was terrible...rude, slow, you name it. When we'd eaten what we could, we waited for a check... And waited, and waited... Finally we went to the bar where the cash register was, where we were ignored until we finally got someone's attention. A waitress who was cleaning tables would come back to where we sat at the bar and throw her cleaning rag into a bucket of water that was on the bar, splashing water everywhere. She did this three times while we waited to pay and leave. My wife and I finally burst out with laughter... It seriously felt like we were on Candid Camera. Bottom line : the food was awful, and I'm still a little sick to my stomach. I'm unconvinced that I won't get good poisoning... So far, so good. Please, stay away... We stopped by Jack's on a Saturday afternoon to grab some grub. Having been here once before.. I couldn't recall it being fabulous by any means, but knew it might hit the spot. I ordered just a cheeseburger and the man ordered a shrimp dinner. Both proved underwhelming and quite frankly unremarkable and pretty much forgettable. I had the same issue Christopher G. was having with the wait staff. A lot of them stood around the counter like meandering cattle, talking about people, or what they wanted for lunch, or who was going on their smoke break. However, far away from remembering what their occupations were, and forgetful that there were indeed hungry patrons waiting to be served. I understand if you want to talk with your co-workers during dead times, but at least serve your customers first before going back to chit-chatting. We waited quite a long time for our food. I'm talking like 30 minutes once our order was placed, and this is with maybe two other occupied tables in the restaurant. Another thing that bugged me was that they did not ask me how I wanted my burger cooked. I could tell it was from fresh ground and not frozen patty, but I wasn't given the option, which slightly disappointed me. I guess the cook decided for me. All in all.. Jack's is pretty damn mediocre with the outstanding reserved for locals only. I'm being generous with the 2nd star, but that's only because Logan has few places comparable to this... if any at all. This is not a bad three star review. Jack's is exactly what it wants to be, and it's good! They're a basic, side of the back road steak, beer, and spaghetti joint, catering to the local crowd, truckers, and bikers passing through the area. When we came in near to closing time, everyone was friendly, our food came out quickly, and the waitress was happy to grab us some pie from the case before locking it up for the evening. The only odd note was the bathroom - the men's room stall must have been knocked over in the past, because it's now walled in with sheets of plywood, and it can be a little bit of a tight fit to get into the toilet as a result. Otherwise, if you're in the area and need a quick bite (or looking for a place that DIDN'T close at 8:00pm), this is as good a stop as any. read more

Jack's Steakhouse was advertised as world famous. HOW? This is a little rustic dinner in hocking hills. There was nothing famous about the food we had. A good sign is that locals eat there, but most were getting breakfast menu items. I tried the steak. Not GOOD! The steak was poorly pan seared then possible broiled or baked. This is not the makings of a world famous steak. The quality of meat was questionable. The French fries did not seem fresh either. I will say I tried two appetizers tequitos and onion rings and they were decent. The person with me tried the Ruben and it was satisfactory, but had very little corn beef. Hocking hills offers very little food selections. This place is in all the brochures and magazines. I would consider trying the breakfast, but most likely will not return. I once ate here about 10 years ago, I was told about the awesome prices. At that time, the steak was crap. Low quality grade and pan seared or oven broiled. Jack's is a local place for everyday celebrations, like the father of a young family coming home after working to restore power in Philly after a big storm or firefighters after their shift. It's great for friendly tourists looking for local flavor, a full bar, and great prices. We seated ourselves like the sign said, and two different people came over to tell us Sue would take care of us and made sure we had menus, since Sue had her hands full. The steaks are cut on site, and are generously sized over what's listed in the menu. They may not be prime cuts, but they are cooked and seasoned beautifully. I recommend you ask for "everything." The chicken wings were a treat - huge, cooked to a crisp, and spiced just like we wanted. Be sure to try a fishbowl of beer on draft. It made me smile every time I drank out of it. read more

There aren't very many restaurant options in the Hocking Hills area. We read the reviews on the highly-advertised "Amish" buffet and decided Jack's sounded like a better option. It was raining so we couldn't cook at our camp site. We had a good experience. Our appetizer was toasted ravioli-$4. He liked them but I didn't, as the menu didn't say that they were stuffed with jalapeno cheese. We sent them back and they were taken off the bill since we only ate 1.5 of them. His salad was fresh iceberg and he said the ranch dressing was good. He ordered the ribeye, and it was flavorful and tender. I tried a bite and was pleasantly surprised...I think it was choice grade. I ordered the salmon fillet. It was average...I could tell it had been frozen, but I expected that. This isn't the kind of locale where your fish is going to be flown in fresh multiple times a week! Our baked potatoes were good, but we were REALLY disappointed that the sour cream was synthetic (it came in a packet). It was mostly vegetable oil and tasted gross. I ended up using his leftover ranch. Beer is served in schooners here...he had a Michelob. The best part of the meal was dessert: Mounds Bar Cake. It was an obviously home-made chocolate layer cake with white coconut frosting and shredded coconut all over. So moist! So delicious! They have a large selection of desserts on display in a case just inside the door. All of them looked awesome. Our server checked back with us often. She seemed like she might have been new. She even apologized several times for not telling us the ravioli were spicy-very nice girl. Overall the menu pricing is rather affordable, especially to those of us coming from a metropolitan area. The interior is paneled in pine. Several trophy bucks watch over you as you eat. There are vinyl stools at the long bar and the chairs and plastic booths are typical of what are found at truck stops. Of the 5 other tables dining with us on that rainy Thursday, 4 were locals (judging by conversations with waitresses and license plates) and to me this is a good sign. The breakfast menu was printed on paper place mats and if we'd been staying closer we would've come back for breakfast. Most of the breakfast meals (eggs, potatoes, bread, meat) were around $5. Jack's is clearly in an older building, but the outside and parking lot have been well-maintained and they have upgraded their light fixtures. Very clean restaurant. read more

Walking up to the door and sitting down we didn't think it was going to be that good, but don't judge a book by the cover! Best meal we've had all weekend! We got greeted as soon as we walked in the door, server came right over! My salmon and shrimp combo was delicious! Portions were huge! His steak was cooked as requested and was great too! We drove from quite a distance to meet my in-laws for dinner. Please don't waste your time. Seriously, don't. Between our waitress smelling like an ash tray, and half of our table getting their food a half hour later than the other half of our party (which was still someone else's order, and needed sent back). I really enjoyed my food being over cooked, and so salty my mouth was burning (sarcasm). Not once were we offered refills of our drinks; we had to get up and walk to the bar to even get the attention of an employee. It was awful, and overpriced. I talked with a lot of locals (AFTER our visit here, of course) and they all sort of chuckled that we made the "Jack's mistake". I don't know what Jack is "world famous" for, but I am certain that it has nothing to do with food. Do yourself a favor and go down to the Hocking Hills diner and get yourself a breakfast steak. Jack's feels more like a sport bar in need of a face lift than a steak house. They do have some craft beers which is about the only nice thing about the place, but even then, they don't give you a glass for your bottled or canned beverage. I had a filet mignon with southern beans and mash potatoes. The beans weren't anything special, the mash potatoes were fine but the brown gravy that came with it tasted unmistakably like Heinz from a jar, and the filet mignon which I ordered medium was tough and dry and its taste had a slight resemblance to organ meat. My wife ordered a ribeye which appeared to have been done as medium rare but it was served essentially cold. The waitress working our table showed up to take the order, to deliver items, and to deliver the check, but otherwise ignored customers, despite the place not being very busy. By far the worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant. My meal started with a hair in my food. The waitress took care of the situation, but that pretty much sets the mood for the meal. We were a group of 6. We all ordered different meals, none of which were good. We all left not feeling well. It was pretty pricey too, especially for terrible food. Cost us over $40 for 3 people and none of us attempted a steak. We had a burger, chicken breast, and chicken strips. Service was painfully slow. Our group now has a restaurant to set a new low to--at least it's not as bad as Jack's, then we all groan! read more

9/30/16: I had the hand breaded chicken tenders with mac&cheese and green beans. My friend had the grown up grilled cheese and fries. Nice friendly bar tender as well as good service. Food came out super quick, probably helped we came in between lunch and dinner too :) Absolutely no complaints about our food or service. I heard they are super packed on Sundays for breakfast and I can imagine why. They also have a full bar (liquor, craft beer and draft) which is nice! Five stars for it being Hocking Hills Ohio! We saw Jack's steak house advertised all over Hocking for years. We finally decided to give it a try. The place is old even looking at it from the outside. We almost left just because of that, but a lot of dives have some good food so we went in anyway. It's old in the inside too, and the bathroom was dirty. Husband got a beer and it was warm. The salad was just iceberg and big chunks of tomato. The chicken was gross, both the wings and strips. The quesadilla had no flavor and husband barely choked down half (and he's not that picky). I ate only a few bites of everything, and we quickly asked for the bill. We paid and took our boxes and promptly threw the food out (we didn't want to leave all the food because we felt so awkward having eaten practically nothing which is why we decided to take it with us). We went back to our cabin and ate what we had there. Very disappointed for having wanted to try this place for so long. read more

Jack's is a very good place to eat! We were looking for home cooking. The portions seem to be large as we split a meal so that we could enjoy the homemade desserts. We had the Mounds Bar Cake and the Coconut Cake. Yum! Delicious! They have daily lunch specials. When our waitress learned that we were from out-of-town, she went out of her way to give us a local Hocking Hills Brochure. She was warm, hospitable, friendly and helpful. The lunch and breakfast has always been great at Jacks but recently the dinner has really taken a step up. I and the family, including the in-laws, hit Jacks tonight and it was fantastic. Appetizers of fried ravioli and cheese sticks were perfect and the wings are great too (order them plain, with sauce in the side, you won't regret it). Had the fish fry and it was great. Hush puppies and coleslaw might have been better than the fish, everything was fantastic. I was traveling. It was getting late for dinner and I picked this place with my GPS. Knowing where I was, I wasn't expecting Morton's or Ruth Chris. But, this was very disappointing. I wasn't greeted when I walked in. And at 8 PM, it wasn't overcrowded, so I should have been. My salad was chopped iceberg lettuce, some diced tomatoes, and some carrot shavings. It has been a long time since I was served a low-budget, low-effort salad like that. Steak was virtually taste-free. Good thing I asked for onions and mushrooms. And, the steamed vegetables. OMG. I'm 90% sure they were poured out of a bag, fozen, and then steamed. There was no seasoning on them and they surely were not fresh. I did get a roll to accompany my dinner. It was cold. Yummy. My waitress was pleasant enough, though not very attentive. I never got a refill on my beverage. And that was another highlight. I ordered a caffeine-free soft drink. It came in a can. Really? I'm sure Jack's scratches some local itch for socialization in this small town. But, if you're not a local who goes there to hang out with friends, steer clear. read more
